Pl aThe Bi-Monthly nner Guide to PBS - WNIT Issue No. 2 March – April 2021 A Message from Greg Giczi President and GM, PBS Michiana – WNIT Board of Directors Chairman James Hillman Immediate Past Chair Hello Friends of PBS Michiana – WNIT! Susan Ohmer, Ph.D. Vice Chair I’m feeling very upbeat these days! It’s now light when I travel to and from work…it’s not as cold Robert G. Douglass on my nightly “dog walks.”…I know people who have actually received the COVID-19 vaccine… President and and, in general, people are smiling more and seem to be more optimistic. I hope that you’re General Manager feeling the same way. Greg Giczi Do you like our new PBS Michiana – WNIT logo design? It emphasizes our PBS affiliation and Treasurer speaks to serving our whole Michiana region. I’ve been in the television broadcast industry a long William J. Schmuhl, Jr. time, so I will always think in terms of “call letters” like W-N-I-T. A few years ago, we only had Secretary one channel of programming but today we have three and more on the way. You will see that we Hayley G. Boling identify our “primary” channel as simply PBS Michiana – WNIT. For our other programming Directors channels, we add a number, PBS Michiana – WNIT2, PBS Kids Michiana – WNIT3. In this Jim Arnold way, we hope to develop a system of program channel identifications that are easy to follow as we Tania Bengtsson grow. If you view using an antenna, you’ll find our channels of programming at 34.1, 34.2, and Marvin Curtis 34.3. For cable or satellite, our channels are usually scattered. We provide a guide in each Planner Joel D. Duthie magazine to help you find them. Mary Horan Katherine Humphreys PBS Michiana – WNIT’s March and April programming is matching stride with the fantastic Brian Inniger January and February line-up of PBS shows. I’m still hearing lots of positive comments about All Paul Jordan Creatures Great and Small and The Black Church (I’m still singing along). I hope you also saw the Trevor Kubatzke two local special programs we produced to add some local/regional history to the national The John Lloyd Black Church story. Christine M. Maziar Pat Moody Your PBS Michiana – WNIT Planner magazine is again loaded with program descriptions and Mike Pound recommendations, but I always like to suggest a few of my favorites... Rebecca Stoltzfus, Ph.D. James M. Summers Women in Leadership is a new local program which premieres March 4th. Every three months we Michael Wargo will highlight a profession and three exceptional women at her beginning, mid-level, and senior Marcus Winchester levels. Thanks to member, and WNIT founder, Jerry Hammes who encouraged us to produce Linda Yoder this series! On March 26th, the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra shares a performance for all of Michiana. On April 5-6-7, ’ awaited Hemingway will be presented. I’ve been Charter Directors looking forward to this since I first spotted it in the PBS production “pipeline.” And, on April Arthur J. Decio* Jerry Hammes 13th, Frontline presents “American Insurrection.” That will be a very unsettling but important Ernestine M. Raclin program to watch. Jane Warner* Dar Wiekamp* Happy spring! Thank you for being our viewer and supporter. Please let the businesses that Honorary Life Directors “underwrite” our programming know you are a viewer and appreciate their support of PBS Mary Louise Miller Michiana – WNIT. We couldn’t do any of what we do without all of you. Carmi Murphy Thomas Slager Best regards, *Deceased Charter Director

Hemingway, a three-part, six-hour documentary film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, examines the visionary work and the turbulent life of Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest and most influential writers America has ever produced. Interweaving his eventful biography -- a life lived at the ultimately treacherous nexus of art, fame, and celebrity -- with carefully selected excerpts from his iconic short stories, novels, and non-fiction, the series reveals the brilliant, ambitious, charismatic, and complicated man behind the myth, and the art he created.
