NEW GROUP 1 WINNER FOR HAGGAS, EUSTACE By Kelsey Riley ENJOYING AUSSIE BOOST Cheveley Park Stud=s seemingly ageless Pivotal (GB) added Group 1 winner number 31 to his haul in Australia on Saturday when the William Haggas-trained, Tom Marquand-ridden (Ire) took the 2000 metre G1 Ranvet S. at Rosehill by a half-length. Back in third was another son of Pivotal, Godolphin=s (GB). Avilius is a triple Group 1 winner himself and took this race last year. Pivotal, at age 27, is still covering a select book of around 30 mares at Cheveley Park for a private fee. Cheveley Park Managing Director Chris Richardson told the TDN last week that, having covered Afour or five mares@ so far this season, he had his first mare scanned in foal last Monday. AHe looks like he=s continuing where he left off last year, although he covers a book of only about 30,@ Richardson said. DERBY DREAMS BORN RAMON DOMINGUEZ GOES TO WORK FOR NEW YORK RACE TRACK CHAPLAINCY OF DOWN ON THE >BAYOU= AMERICA by Bill Finley Ramon Dominguez has not ridden since suffering a head injury in a 2013 spill, but he never did step away from the sport. The Hall of Fame jockey now devotes much of his time to his role as the president of the New York Race Track Chaplaincy of America, a job he took on last month. The work of the racetrack chaplains is always important but never more so than now, as the coronavirus has upended life on the racetrack for many, particularly backstretch workers. The job has thrust Dominguez back into the spotlight as he has done public service announcements for the New York chaplains group, been all over social media and is featured in a press release asking people to make donations. It's about giving back. Cont. p4

Those that backed him were instead forced to swallow a price in the vicinity of 3-1, but the bay did not let them down, treating his 13 rivals to a front- running, 1 1/2-length beating. Exiting the Feb. 17 GIII Southwest S. in which he laid down swift early fractions before sticking on gamely to be second behind Silver Prospector (Declaration of War), Wells Bayou loomed the speed of the speed and bounced very alertly from gate three. The opening couple of furlongs were traversed in :23.56, but Florent Geroux was able to get Wells Bayou to relax enough through an internal half mile in :48.86, good for a composite six-furlong split of 1:12.42, with little change in the order behind.

Dominguez cont. from p1 Dominguez is among those spearheading an effort to bolster the food pantry on the Belmont backstretch that so many backstretch workers depend upon. People are being asked to either make an online donation or to drop off food at locations near the track. With racing having shut down in New York, there could soon be a dire need for food and supplies for the workers. "They are, without a question, the backbone of our sport," he said of the backstretch workers. "In times like this, more than ever, we need to come together to see how we can help. When it comes to food, that is our primary basic need. Most of us have access to it and can go to a grocery store. Sometimes these people don't have a car.
