Won Pat Relative to welcoming Efren "'Bata" "'the Magician" Reyes to Guam and expressing the people's warm Hafa Adai during his visit to Guam. 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF I 2 MINA'BENTE NUEBI NA LIHESLATURAN GuAfIAN: 3 WHEREAS, as part of the Memorial Day 2007 weekend, Efren Reyes 4 from Angeles City, Philippines, will be making his first official tour of Guam. 5 Efren Reyes whose nicknames are liBata" and uThe Magician" started his 6 education in pool at the age of five (5) at his uncle's pool room in Manila. 1 1 Often times he could be found sleeping on the table, so he could play as soon 2 as he woke up; and 3 WHEREAS, Efren Reyes learned skills from other players, good and 4 bad, and taught himself to make even the toughest shots. These perfected 5 skills have earned Efren Reyes the nickname of "the Magician" due to the 6 magic he works on the table when the odds are stacked against him; and 7 WHEREAS, some of Efren Reyes' achievements include the following: 8 1999 World Pool Champion; 1994 US Open Champion; World Pool League 9 Champion 2001 and 2002; 2003 Mid-Atlantic Championship; San Miguel 10 Asian 9-Ball Tour Championship; Manila, 2003 Las Vegas 9-Ball Open 11 Champion; 2006 IPT World 8-Ball Champion; and the World All Around Title 12 2005 and 2007 (Derby City Classic); and 13 WHEREAS, Efren Reyes is a living legend in his home country of the 14 Philippines. When people arrive in the Philippines, one of the first sights they 15 see is a huge picture of Efren Reyes. His 1999 World Championship victory 16 live on TV, elevated pool into the major leagues and made Efren Reyes a 17 national celebrity who starred in TV adverts for San Miguel Beer and 18 McDonalds among others; and 19 WHEREAS, Efren Reyes 1s the 2002 International Challenge of 20 Champions winner, the 2003 Mid-Atlantic 9-Ball Open Champion, the 1999 21 World 9-Ball Champion, and was the 1999 Player of the Year. He was also 22 inducted into the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame in 2003; and 23 WHEREAS, now fifty-four (54) years-old, Efren Reyes's talent shows no 24 signs of abating. A big win in 2004 of Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000) in the 25 USA showed that when there is big money on the table, Efren Reyes comes 2 1 into his own. Despite his success, Efren Reyes remains modest and is highly 2 popular among his fellow professionals. Recent accomplishments of Efren 3 Reyes include the 2006 IPT World 8-Ball Championship and the 2007 Derby 4 City Classic All-Around title. He has numerous television appearances and 5 print media articles written about him; now, therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of I Mina'Bente Nuebi Na 7 Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahan and the 8 people of Guam, extend a warm Hafa Adai to Efren °Bata" 0 The Magician" 9 Reyes and wishes him well during his stay in Guam. Aside from being a 10 notable player in the game of nine-ball, Efren Reyes possesses a masterful skill 11 in straight pool and is widely known as the best player in the Philippines. In 12 1995, Efren Reyes dominated the Maine Event, besting such well-known 13 names as Jim Rempe and Earl Strickland His highest run in that tournament 14 was one hundred twenty-three (123); and be it further 15 RESOLVED, that I Mina'Bente Nuebi Na Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, 16 recognize some of the commendations bestowed upon Efren Reyes, such as 17 the Outstanding Filipino Awardee of the Philippines Jaycees; Recipient of the 18 Philippines Legion of Honor from the Philippine government; Athlete of the 19 Year of the Philippines Sportswriters Association; Asian Games and Southeast 20 Asian Games Gold medalist; and be it further 21 RESOLVED, that the Speaker and the Chairman of the Executive 22 Committee certify, and the Secretary of the Legislature attest to, the adoption 23 hereof, and that copies of the same be thereafter transmitted to Efren °Bata" 24 °the Magician" Reyes; to Marianas Promotion; and to the Honorable Felix P. 25 Camacho, I Maga 'lahen Guahan. 3 DULY AND REGULARLY ADOPTED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF I MINA'BENTE NUEBI NA LIHESLATURAN GuAlIAN ON THE 25TH DAY OF MAY 2007. To many, he is a living legend, writes TED LERNER IT IS A HOT and sunny Saturday afternoon in late March and Efren Reyes is putting on an exhibition. The town is Angeles City, Efren's home town, and the place is Margarita Ville, a popular bar and restaurant on Field's Avenue. Efren has come here at the invitation of his American friend, John, the owner, for a day of some friendly pool. The challengers today are mostly foreigners, who make up the majority of Margarita Ville's customers. They have lined up for a chance to take on the master, to get their picture taken with him, and to be able to one day say to their friends around the bar, "I once played against Efren Reyes, the greatest pool player in the world." The bet for each match is P500. First man to win seven games wins the money. Of course, Efren has to give every challenger a major handicap. He practically gives the game away. In 9­Ball, where the balls have to be run consecutively until the winning nine ball is sunk, all the opponent has to do is sink the four, the six or the nine and he wins.

Earl competes and practices regularly while Mike tried to get ready for this challenge match and it showed as Earl dominated the 8-Ball match. The 10-Ball match started out similarly, but a Strickland skid on game ball changed things including a swelling confidence from Sigel. It ended up a squeaker as Mike tied it up at 7-7 yet Earl closed it out at 8-7. Again, the player’s mic’d made it a blast. Straight Pool was the game that all thought Mike had his best chance at turning the tables on Earl.
