Western Expedition 2013

www.ingervandyke.com “It is my dream that the entire should become a free refuge where humanity and nature can live in peace and in harmonious balance. It would be a place where people from all over the world could come to seek the true meaning of peace within themselves, away from the tensions and pressures of much of the rest of the world. Tibet could indeed become a creative centre for the promotion and development of peace. The Tibetan Plateau would be transformed into the world's largest natural park or biosphere. Strict laws would be enforced to protect wildlife and plant life; the exploitation of natural resources would be carefully regulated so as not to damage relevant ecosystems; and a policy of sustaining development would be adopted in populated areas." In September 2013 I will be leading a small private expedition across the roof of the world from to Kathmandu in 4WD vehicles. Our journey will start in Kathmandu, where the group will meet prior to flying to Lhasa in Tibet. Time will be spent in Lhasa to acclimatise to the altitude and adjust to the photographic conditions before we embark on a 'once in a lifetime' journey across the Tibetan Plateau.

Key sites visited will include:

The Potala and other spectacular buddhist monasteries like Sera, Drepung and Ganden.

Beautiful Tibetan towns along the plateau including Shigatse, Gyantse and

The expedition will also be visiting , close to the headwaters of the mammoth Indus River and one of the holiest places on earth. Stopping at Mount Kailash for two days, expedition members will experience, first hand, the way Tibetans have lived for centuries. From Mount Kailash, the expedition will then venture further west to visit the lost civilization of Guge in a remote, arid part of the Western Himalaya.

Finally the expedition will visit the spectacular north face of Mount Everest before crossing the border into Nepal.

The group will be a maximum of nine people, three people per 4WD. inger ITINERARY vandyke
