Madrid, November 28 1975 Maestro , 22 Square de 1'Avenue Foch, 75116.

Dear Maestro,

As I have not received a cable informing me to the contrary, I am assuming for the moment that you will arrive in Barcelona on December 4 and I have left all subsequent arrangements as they stand according to my letter sent to you at the Drake Hotel on November 17. If for any reason you have decided against Barraquer or feel unable to come so soon to Barcelona, I can easily get out of it without any trouble at all, as long as I know before I myself would leave for Barcelona on the morning of December 4.

I enclose a copy of my letter to Mr. Rainer concerning the problems we have with ROS MARBA for the concert in Barcelona on January 12 next. As I explain to Mr. Rainer, there are new, insurmountable difficulties between Ros Marba and his orchestra, with the result that his contract will be terminated in December. He is therefore unable to honour his engagement with the Patronato for January 12 and as I was only informed of this yesterday, I had to start looking immediately for a conductor. I telephoned MILTON KATIMS in Seattle and he would be free and delighted to accept the engagement. However, I have naturally confirmed nothing without consulting you first, and if you would like me to try any other conductor, I shall be happy to do so. Barcelona will, of course, accept anyone you like, but unfortunately time is rather against us.

I hope that you are not too tired after your U.S. tour and I am anxious to know how your eyes are.

With all affectionate greetings to you and to Mrs. Rubinstein.

Yoursj sincerely,

Ann;

Mr. Michael Rainer Organisation Artistique Internationa 24 Rue d1Artois, 75008 PARIS

Dear Mr. Rainer,

Yesterday morning I received a phone call from Barcelona informing me that new problems have arisen between ROS MARBA and his orchestra which are insurmountable to such an extent that his contract with them will be terminated in December. As you know, the Patronato Pro Musica in Barcelona signed a contract with him and the orchestra many months ago for the concert with Maestro RUBINSTEIN on January 12 next, but in view of these fresh difficulties he will not honour this contract.

Last night, I telephoned MILTON KATIMS in Seattle to find out whether he could, in principle, be free to conduct this concert and his reply was positive. I believe that Mr. Katins and the Maestro are good friends and that the Maestro is happy with this conductor. However, I have naturally not confirmed anything until the Maestro can be consulted on this matter and if he would like me to try another conductor, I can easily do so. Barcelona will naturally accept any conductor we put forward, but with so little time I doubt that we shall have much choice. I think that in principle the Maestro agreed to play MOZART D minor K.466 and SCHUMANN in Barcelona - he played the Mozartwith Katims just a couple of weeks ago in Seattle.

Referring to my letter of November 8, the question of the recitals in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca (possible dates February 17 and 19 1976) is still outstanding. I should be very grateful if you would kindly let me know the Maestro's final reply as soon as the opportunity arises.

With all best wishes,

Yoursl sincerely, w Annabelle Whitestone.
