First Word Birmingham June.qxp_Layout 1 23/05/2018 12:34 Page 1 Entertainment news from around the region Double delight for fans of Birmingham folk group Birmingham band The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble are set to release a new mini- album - on the same day that they hold their fifth Power Folk festival at Digbeth's Spotted Dog (Sunday 10 June). Sleepy Maggie + Remixes Reworkings And Rarities features a four-and-a-half-minute in- strumental and various other remixed and reimagined versions of the track. Commenting on the new record, band leader Joe Broughton said: “The idea of remixing the instrumental track, Sleepy Maggie, is very much in keeping with the group’s ap- proach to making music, of using what could be a straightforward melody as the basis for a tune and seeing how that can be developed.” For more information about the album, and Power Folk festival, visit folkensemble.co.uk Brum theatre launches Tinkling the ivories Dance Hub Birmingham ‘creative conversations’ Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is this announces new funding Birmingham Hippodrome has launched a month hosting the city’s International Piano Dance Hub Birmingham has announced that new series of ‘thought-provoking’ lunchtime Festival. it will provide funding for a number of local events.
