We are committed to providing the very best education for each and every pupil, and to contributing to raising standards.

Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) play an important role in ensuring the quality of our cross-school working, and are fundamental to the delivery of many of our School Improvement activities.

They understand what outstanding practice in their area of expertise looks like, and are skilled in helping others to achieve this within their own context.

Via the Early Years Connect programme we have developed the capacity to offer improvement opportunities to Early Years settings also.

We have a well-established partnership with the Avon Teaching School Alliance (www.avontsa.com), which means we have the capacity to support primary and secondary education.

We are able to draw on the expertise of senior leaders from across CSL, which includes National and Local Leaders of Education, to support our school improvement priorities.

Working alongside our member schools, we are developing Peer Support and Challenge visits, spanning different tiers of leadership. These are informed by specific lines of enquiry linking to School Development Plans and Ofsted.

Our CPD is delivered by quality assured and recommended practitioners and is evaluated for quality and impact.

All programmes are offered at highly reduced, lowest cost prices to Member Schools and at best value to Non Member Schools.

(Whilst we make every effort to ensure all of our listed CPD takes place, please be aware that programme delivery is subject to uptake.)

Successful applicants to The Mead Teaching School's School Direct Initial Teacher Training Programme work within our Member Schools throughout their training year. They follow a school-based training programme which enables them to work alongside outstanding practitioners and develop the rigour, professional knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to become an inspirational, creative and purposeful practitioner, within a highly supportive and aspirational environment.

High quality training is delivered by outstanding and specialist teachers from Member Schools and The University of Gloucester. Input includes a range of specialist pedagogical workshops, seminars and practice-based opportunities.

All trainees receive the highest quality support throughout the programme from both the Teaching School and the University, including academic and pastoral support.

Each trainee is assigned a mentor throughout the programme, who provides the highest quality coaching, mentoring and support. The enhanced modules in SEND and music provide pedagogical and practical input supporting the development of a high level of knowledge, skills and understanding.

Trainees are welcomed as full members of the staff team and are encouraged to immerse themselves in all aspects of school life, including professional development days, monitoring and evaluation activity, extra- curricular activities, residentials, and community events.

Applications for 2020-21 will open in October 2019. If you have a member of staff who is interested in applying, or you would like to find out more about hosting a trainee teacher in your school, please email [email protected].

The Mead Teaching School is a designated Lead School for Research and Development. This designation by the National College recognises our commitment to research and development as part of our core work.

We promote research practice across our Member Schools, as well as supporting capacity-building and leadership development.

We recognise research and development is a key driver and enabler for all aspects of the alliance’s work and the establishment of a research culture has shown to be critical in supporting leaders and teachers in understanding research engagement and connecting research with everyday practice.

Research and Development is recognised as a core aspect of school improvement and innovation; consideration of the values and principles underpinning our work has been critical in guiding and shaping our research strategy.
