Tide  NEW Sunday 2 June BBC Two Northern Ireland, 9.45pm

In a new series on BBC Northern Ireland, viewers can discover the science and compelling stories behind one of the most powerful forces on earth - the tide.

Tide, starting on BBC Two Northern Ireland on Sunday 2 June at 9.45pm, will be broadcast internationally and will take viewers on an epic journey across four continents.

The programme looks at the world’s strongest and highest tides, raging whirlpools and the oldest tide mill - dating from 787 AD - discovered at Mahee Island on Strangford Lough.

Throughout this three-part series, oceanographers, scientists and surfers share their own unique experiences and examine the impact the tide - a spectacular and often chaotic force - has on coastal areas.

From seaweed farming on the shores of Rathlin Island to the mudflats at Xiapu in China - where local fishermen and women have turned to magazine modelling - the series meets people whose livelihoods depend on the ebb and flow of the tide.

Almost half of the world’s population lives in coastal areas and in an age where rising sea levels and the plastic tide are affecting our oceans, this visually impactful series explores the mystery behind this force of nature to understand the rules that govern the rise and fall of the tide.

Tide is a MacTV/Cwmni Da co-production made for BBC Northern Ireland, BBC ALBA, , TG4, LIC China and Sky Vision.

There’s No Place Like Tyrone  NEW BBC One Northern Ireland Monday 3 June, 10.35pm

From the makers of Beauty Queen And Single comes the latest entertainment programme for BBC One Northern Ireland, There’s No Place Like Tyrone.

First there was Towie and Made in Chelsea There’s No Place Like Tyrone. Beginning on Monday 3 June at 10.35pm, There’s No Place Like Tyrone is a new series based on the constructed reality genre. It skips around the Mid-Ulster Countryside and into the lives of some of the people who live or work there.

There’s No Place Like Tyrone features real life characters, but events have been constructed purely for the series.

The three part series takes a sneak peek at the shenanigans of several fun and loveable characters including Tyrone Farmer Lynda and her partner Bobby who hails from nearby Co Donegal. As Bobby plans a special treat for Lynda’s birthday - despite her dislike for surprises - he ponders if his good intentions will pay off.

Also in the first programme, Ruth splits her time between her first love, the family farm, with her business as a beauty therapist but she’s taking time out to take her girlfriends to the shooting range.

Later in the series business owner and entrepreneur Shirley puts plans in place for a big opening shindig to launch her latest business in Fivemiletown. And a black tie event at the Mart lets everyone get dolled up for a special evening.

There’s No Place Like Tyrone is made by Stellify for BBC Northern Ireland.

I Got The Music Tuesday 4 June BBC Radio Ulster, 10pm BBC Sounds

Every generation has a musical tribe it belongs to and songs that evoke memories of a special place and time.

In this new eight-part series for BBC Radio Ulster, listeners can interact with presenter Joe Lindsay via phone and social media as he takes a trip through six decades of music to uncover the sounds and stories that marked each era – with the people who were actually there.

In the 1950s, Teddy Boys with their perfect quiffs and winklepicker shoes, rocked towns across Northern Ireland, while the coming of the Mods brought style and attitude to the 1960s.

For a generation that had grown up with the Troubles, punk rock was a clarion call for something better and in musical terms, an Alternative Ulster was born.

From flower power to David Bowie and then the last great musical revolution that had people raving across Northern Ireland in the 1990s, this series will take music fans on a trip down memory lane.

Episode one This Corrosion - explores Goth music, were dark clothing, heavy eyeliner and patchouli oil permeates the air. Got The Music starts on Tuesday, June 4 at 10pm on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds.
