The following are the 2018-2019 recipients with an excerpt from their application:

The University of Akron (Alpha Omicron - chapter GPA 3.59) – the chapter entered into a partnership with the university’s Alumni Association to create an event called “5 under 35” to recognize 5 alumni under the age of 35 for their accomplishments in their respective fields. The chapter also partnered with the Downtown Akron Partnership to put on a downtown Akron tour for their FSL community. The chapter, alongside Akron community members, volunteered to clean up over 3-and-a-half tons of trash from a local park. According to the chapter, what makes Order of Omega at the University of Akron unique and necessary is “that because of the diversity of our chapter make-up and our commitment to our purpose, we are collectively able to challenge views and think critically to come up with a solution to problems that affect our community.”

Clemson University (Epsilon Kappa – chapter GPA 3.74) – the chapter initiated a variety of programs for the good of their FSL community as well as the overall university community. A highlight for the chapter was when the chapter hosted a professional development summit where 3 speakers came in to discuss different aspects of professional life after college. This program was so successful, it caught the attention of the Academic Success Center, who have expressed interest in supporting the chapter next year with this program. The chapter also gave back to the town of Clemson by holding the annual Greeks and Ghosts Trunk or Treat event in downtown Clemson during the town carnival. Providing a safe and convenient way to trick and treat really helped to showcase the positive image of Greeks that we all know we can – and should – be. “We are a collection of students who are not afraid to be heard as we work to continuously improve the Greek experience.”

Case Western Reserve University (Eta Sigma – chapter GPA 3.5) - the chapter participated in several programs in 2018 that helped to benefit the Case Western Reserve Fraternity and Sorority community as well as the overall University community. A staple program at Case Western, the Eta Sigma chapter helped to raise money for the Emergency Dues Relief Fund. This fund is maintained by the chapter and is designed to give members of the Case Western Reserve fraternity/Sorority community – who have experienced a financial hardship – the opportunity to get assistance in paying their individual chapter dues so that they can continue to enjoy the benefits of being an active, dues-paying member of their respective organization. “The impactful leaders we boast truly model the way for what fraternal leaders should be.”

Loyola Marymount University (Lambda Tau – chapter GPA 3.87) - the chapter participated in several co-sponsored events that were all designed to not only benefit the FSL community, but also to benefit the overall university community. The chapter partnered with several university departments including Student Government, the Student Housing Office, and other Division of Student Affairs areas to create a unified approach for election advocacy and voter registration advocacy. Order of Omega at Loyola Marymount University is about being an innovator for the sorority and fraternity life community as well as being a way to provide dynamic programs which focuses on partnerships with various university entities that a lot of the Greek community might not even be aware of. “Our members choose excellence, and making positive choices is what justifies the existence of Greek Life as something that can transform one’s university experience.” @idahogreeklife

@uwgreeklife @uta_das @uva_fsl

The Outstanding Professional Award was established to recognize individuals that dedicate their time and talents to guide and mentor fraternity men and women daily. The following are the 2018-2019 recipients and a little of what their nominators wrote:

CJ Graziano Coordinator, Fraternity & Sorority Programs University of “CJ continually encourages all Order of Omega chapter members to excel in whatever they are passionate about, and she is always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Although CJ remains constantly busy with the many Greek organizations on campus, she never fails to check in on Order of Omega to make sure we are utilizing all resources available to us especially when it comes to scholarship and philanthropy.”

Ryan S. Cole Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life “Ryan has tirelessly and selflessly dedicated his time to helping our chapter regain the focus it lost along the way – from meticulously going over club finances to going over calendar options day- by-day, to rethinking our admissions standards, Ryan has helped to revitalize and reinvigorate the vision and mission of the Nu Omicron chapter at Columbia University.”

Shawnna Smith Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Programs Cal Poly San Luis Obispo “Shawanna stepped into her role as a coordinator for FSL and quickly went about rebuilding the Gamma Kappa chapter which had all but dissolved prior to her arrival. She went about doing this by inspiring Greeks to aspire to a higher standard of membership and involvement. Through innovative programming ideas, Shawnna reestablished our chapter and inspired us to keep it going. Above all, Shawnna genuinely cares about us as individuals. She is an exceptional role model and is very deserving of this award.”

Mustafa “MJ” Abdullah, Jr. Former Graduate Assistant for Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, University of , Urbana-Champaign “MJ helped our Order of Omega chapter focus on growth this year by engaging in a lot of self- reflection. One of the things MJ instilled in us after every event we hosted was for us to stay for a few minutes after and unpack what had gone well and what we could do to change for the future. MJ has a unique ability to simultaneously act as both advisor and confidant without sacrificing professionalism.” This year, Order of Omega turned sixty! In honor of our anniversary, we are hosting a fundraiser to help increase our scholarship giving. For the sixty days leading up to our sholarship application deadline, we hope to encourage members, alumni, and friends to celebrate with us by giving to Order of Omega.
