Just under 2 hours from London, 19 minutes from Salisbury to Tisbury and under 50 minutes from Exeter to Crewkerne. Under 5’s travel FREE! 3. Sutton Bingham Reservoir The best views can be seen by sitting on the left-hand side of the train, after leaving Yeovil Junction towards Crewkerne. Underground Carriage See if you can spot this unexpected surprise. Sit on the left-hand side of the train after Tisbury station towards Gillingham 2. The Blackmore Vale by Caroline Rowland Page 6 | www.blackmorevaletrains.com The Blackmore Vale Line The Blackmore Vale Line links the wonderful Wiltshire village of Tisbury, with the historic Dorset towns of Gillingham and Sherborne, and Templecombe and Crewkerne in Somerset. The eighty-mile scenic route Caroline Rowland travels across the three counes of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire connecng the six staons and takes in the most picturesque countryside and connecng with the Naonal Cycle Route. There are many walks along the way: The Liberty Trail, The Stour Valley Way, Macmillan Messums Wiltshire, Tisbury. Caroline Rowland Way and The White Hart Link (a fiy-mile circular walking route linking the five towns of North Dorset.) Discover historic castles, learn about the Crusades and Civil War Celebrate the Age of Steam and become an engine driver for the day Savour scrumptious cream teas and delicious locally sourced cuisine Enjoy visual arts and cultural experiences Sherborne New Castle By Gryphon School Page 7 | www.blackmorevaletrains.com Historic Market Towns and Villages Tisbury – Picturesque Wiltshire Village Tisbury lies within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and features a number of important environmental and historical sites. Tisbury High Street by Doug Green They include the Fonthill Lakes and the headwaters of the River Nadder. Also just to the east of the village, Place Farm Tisbury Square by Lizzie Graham features a magnificent fieenth century the barn which is the largest thatched barn in the country. Tisbury is an excellent base from which to explore the countryside of the Nadder Old Wardour Castle by Caroline Rowland Valley, offering fantastic walking trails and great cycling opportunities. Tisbury is a thriving village having a prominent twelfth century church with its own four thousand-year-old yew tree, and a wide range of interesting shops, pubs and cafés. Here you can discover the delights of the many independent family –run shops and enjoy locally-sourced produce. With its mainline railway CarolineStourhead Rowland by Paul Blowfield staon, Gillingham is an ideal launch-pad for the stately delights of Stourhead (six miles away,) the wonders of Iron Age north Dorset, and the charms of Shaesbury and its 'Hovis Hill'. Founded at the confluence of three rivers - the Lodden, Shreen and Stour - Gillingham is the perfect base for walkers. The fine countryside and Beautiful Chantry - a hidden gem north Dorset scenery by Gail Coleshill offers cyclists many circular tours and stunning vistas. Gillingham offers a warm welcome to walkers and cyclists. Many footpaths give access to the beautiful rural landscape and an annual walking festival gets underway during the first week of September. Within easy walking distance of the staon there is a vibrant leisure centre with a café, swimming pool and so play facility and for outside entertainment an adventure RiversMeet Leisure Centre, Hardings Lane play area, first-class skate park, a games area and outdoor table tennis facility. Take a tour around the village during bloom me to discover wonderful innovave planng schemes. David Seares Templecombe is just over 2 hours from London Waterloo, 38 mins from Salisbury, 1 hour 18 mins from Exeter, 19 minutes from Tisbury and just 8 minutes from Gillingham. Dominated by its golden- coloured abbey, the town has a number of buildings of architectural note including the seventeenth century castle and eighteenth century school. Within the town the narrow streets are lined with honey coloured and old grey stone buildings interspersed with early mber -framed, gable-ended houses and local Ham stone structures; many are Grade 1 Sherborne listed
