Text: Revelation 5:5 ______Intro: The scene is the throne of God. Time has ceased to exist; it is now eternity. The saints of all ages have gathered to see . There we ______read of the mighty throne where great bursts of light flash forth from God. ______John said it was more dazzling than a glittering diamond or a shining ruby. There a curved rainbow encircled his throne. (Rev.4:8) (Rev. 4:11 KJV) ______(Rev. 5:1-4, LB) The scroll in the hand of God is the great volume of judgment about to fall upon planet earth during the Tribulation Period. No ______mortal can touch the book, nor can the angels. (Rev.5:5, LB) Jesus is the Lion of the ! As He takes the scroll from the Father, all of ______heaven erupts with a new song. (Rev.5:9,10; LB) (Rev.5:12, LB) These eyes of mine will one day behold it all! I shall see Him as He truly is! ______1. WHY THE LION OF JUDAH? ______A) Why is Jesus called the Lion of the tribe of Judah? This great epic runs from Genesis through Revelation. The story opens in Egypt, thousands ______of years ago. An old man, 147 years of age, lays dying on his bed. (Gen.49:3,4; LB) (Gen. 49:5-7) ______

B) The gloom of the room is lifted as calls for his son Judah. ______An old man, with his last breaths, prophesies of the coming Messiah, the anointed One. Until comes! What a phrase! He will be of the tribe ______of Judah! And it would be from this tribe that the greatest king of Israel would come. His name would be . (Mt.1:2 LB) (Mt.1:3-6 LB) ______

C) Was King David the One known as Shiloh, the One who would ______have the right to rule? No. That One was still to come. (Luke 1:30-33) (He.7:14) And the grand culmination of it all in Revelation 5 when, with ______our own eyes, we see this Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah! (Jn.1:29) ______D) Why go through all this biblical history? For one very important reason: to show you that the reality of Christ is not just some concept ______dreamed up in the fertile ground of imagination. Jesus was promised to the world as long ago as Egypt’s glory, and throughout the pages of the ______Old Testament the line continued uninterrupted until that momentous, heart-stopping night in Bethlehem when angels appeared to shepherds. ______
