Bargaining Update No. 5 Bargaining Update! Two new members, Stephanie Souza and Violet Strawn, have joined our team! In our last bargaining session, the Team Tulare County Community First bargaining team continued to discuss salary increases with our employer. This session, our bargaining team highlighted the economic recovery. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average have reached record highs; the California State Budget had several billion dollars in excess revenue; 17 new housing developments have broken ground locally; and local farming has continued to boom despite the drought. As Ty Inman stated, "We shared in the recession, why can't we share in the recovery?" The bargaining team also addressed our concerns about creating a two tier system. The bargaining team addressed the concern that the Tulare County's CAO base salary of $185,398 is higher than Governor Brown's salary of $173,000. Additionally, it was noted that the CAO base salary is higher than the governors’ salaries in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia and New Jersey. The discussion called into question the greater public good and the use of public funds for inflated CAO and management salaries. All in all, the inflated salaries of management are wildly out of proportion to the salaries of front-line workers. On a positive note, a productive discussion regarding mobility within County employment also occurred.
