Fall 2018 Fraternity & Sorority Life Report Executive Summary Academics

 The fall 2018 all Greek GPA of 3.049 surpassed the all BSU average of 3.011.  This is the 28th consecutive semester the all Greek GPA has met or surpassed the all campus GPA.

Housing  Members of , , Phi , , , and Epsilon live in houses privately owned or leased by their respective housing corporations.  Phi Gamma Delta and are alcohol free facilities.

Leadership Development  The Office of Greek Life and Greek councils sponsor the Greek Leadership Summit and Greek Academy, a leadership development program for new members, chapter officers, seniors and emerging leaders.  The New Member Greek Academy is now an online education tool with a new member social hosted by the councils. In person curriculum to enhance this program was piloted this fall by two chapters.  PHA provided scholarships for two members to attend the Undergraduate Interfraternal Institute (UIFI) in Bloomington, IN this summer.

Recruitment, Retention & Expansion  The All Greek freshmen member retention is currently 88.49% compared to the All Ball State freshman retention of 78.27% This is an increase from 84.34% the previous year.  Total Greek community membership was currently 2,000 members during the fall 2018 semester, a decrease of 306 members from fall 2017.  Currently 13.46% of Ball State students are members of a fraternity or sorority.  The 12 IFC fraternities welcomed 273 new members this fall. This number is a decrease from the fall 2017 semester with 310 new members joining 13 chapters.  The chapters in the Panhellenic Association welcomed 338 new members this fall. This is a 25% decrease from the fall of 2016 semester with 455 new members.

Service & Philanthropy  During the fall 2018 semester, 11,901.96 hours of hands-on community service hours were completed by fraternity and sorority members. This number is an 18.08% decrease from the 14,529.88 hours performed in the fall 2017 semester.  During the fall 2018 semester, $87,633.11 was raised for charities by Greeks. This is a 19.13% decrease from $108,373.84 during the fall 2017 semester.  The total amount of service hours in 2018 was 27,718.28 compared to 30,154.18 in 2017. This is an 8.07% decrease.  The Interfraternity Council donated $1,100 to Secret Families and $1,394 to South Side Middle School during the fall 2018 semester.  The total amount raised for charities in 2018 was $284,823.08.08 compared to $312,167.98 in 2017. This is an 8.76% decrease.
