The Athletic Letter at Vancouver College is open to all inter-school sports. The letter is a very powerful symbol of commitment and excellence in a sporting activity. A Letter is awarded to student athletes in a recognized Vancouver College sport who have worked hard and achieved a level of excellence in accordance with his ability, and is worthy of reward as validated by his coach(es).

JUNIOR VARSITY A Grade 10 student athlete: • Who has competed on sports teams during his Grade 9 and 10 years and has earned at least 100 points from these sports. The athlete must have participated in at least one sport in Grade 10 and has been recommended by the coaches.

Managers: • Managers will be awarded letters based on their grade level, not on the grade level of the teams with which they are involved. • The same criteria will be used as is set out for the players. This means that for a manager to earn credit for a letter, he must show true commitment and dedication towards the sport(s) he manages. • Managers in good standing may earn 50% of the points awarded to the players of the sport.

VARSITY A Grade 11/12 student athlete: • Who has competed on sports teams at the Varsity level during his Grade 11 or 12 years and has earned at least 100 points from these sports. • The athlete must be a citizen in good standing. • Any athlete who has played five (5) years of a sport is automatically eligible for a Varsity letter.

Early Application: • A Varsity letter may be awarded at the beginning of a Grade 12 season to any athlete graduating that year.

Managers: • Managers will be awarded letters based on their grade level, not on the grade level of the teams with which they are involved. • The same criteria will be used as is set out for the players. This means that for a manager to earn credit for a letter, he must show true commitment and dedication towards the sport(s) he manages. • Managers in good standing may earn 50% of the points awarded to players of the sport.

SPORT PIN

• Only Varsity Lettermen may receive Sports Pins. A gold sports pin signifies five (5) years playing of that sport.

STAR

• A gold star is awarded to a Letterman based on his sport’s criteria. A Letterman may be eligible for the following reasons: Team Captain, won Provincial Championship, received a league or provincial All Star Award, set a record at a competition, etc.
