5 Shorelines Grants & Gifts The 2014 Annual Appeal, which is the agency’s largest direct mail fundraiser, has set a new record with over $185,000 received from 344 donors. This appeal is a vital fundraiser as it helps to offset program expenses. It runs through June 30th so there is still time to donate if you have not already. Our administrative staff moved into the second floor of the building once remodeling was complete in mid–February by Construction By Design. The first floor will be transformed into a day program that offers adaptive daily living and prevocational skills to nearly 80 adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities who attend the Adult Services Program currently at the Lois Lloyd Center, 2525 Church Street in Evanston. The Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago did not renew a long–term lease on the Lois Lloyd Center property but did grant a 5–year extension through February 2016. Therefore, in order to continue to provide the essential services offered by the Adult Services Program a new home was necessary. Construction on the first floor will soon be underway to retrofit the building to meet the special needs of the individuals we serve. It will be a state-of-the art facility that enables future program expansion. 8 Spring 2015 Pizzamania The Kiwanis Club of Evanston hosted “Pizzamania” on February 17th, which was “Fat Tuesday” at Giordano’s in Evanston. This year, over 230 children and adults feasted on pizza and beverages that were served to them by Kiwanis members and volunteers from the Evanston Township High School Wrestling Team. Keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, guests received beaded necklaces compliments of Tom McRaith, Kiwanian and Shore Honorary Board Member, and were greeted by Rodney Greene, Kiwanian and Honorary King for the Day. The event also featured free face painting for kids. Over $4,000 was raised for Shore.

9 Shorelines Special Happenings at the Shore

In October, Kevin Rauch, a person served at the Koenig Training Center and ComEd Energy Force Ambassador, did a presentation at the Lois Lloyd Center on ways to be more energy efficient. The audience enjoyed Kevin’s humor as he asked questions following his presentation. Kevin has completed over 10 presentations as required for his job role as the ComEd Ambassador. Shore has submitted a new application to ComEd with hopes that Kevin will be selected to continue as an Ambassador, which he has enjoyed. The Adult Services Program had a holiday party on December 19th. Staff prepared a luncheon for the persons served and family Kevin Rauch at the Lois Lloyd Center doing a ComEd presentation. members and the highlight was a visit from Santa Claus. Each person served also received a present. The Koenig Center had their holiday party on the same day. Volunteers from the DoubleTree Hotel North Shore/Chicago had Santa and his helpers deliver presents to each person served. Katie and Lindsey Koenig and Keil Vornow also distributed fleece blankets with Shore’s logo courtesy of Trim–Tex Inc. and the Koenig Family. Our persons served were grateful for the donated items. The homes and CILAs (Community Integrated Living Arrangements) had open houses in early December to celebrate the holidays. A person served at the Adult Services Program with her family and Dawn Beasley, Developmental Activities Trainer, during the center’s Holiday Party.
