Arthur Gillis, said 1-84 would provide students and faculty with easier access to the school. "It would be an aide to many students who would like to commute, but can't," he said. "The highway would be a public service." Gillis also said there is "a distinct possibility" that the value of UConn land will go up if the highway is completed. Local real estate agents agreed the land close to the highway will rise in value. One real estate agent believes the increase in business brought about by the new highway would lead to an increase in land value.
