Welcome to the Garden Show and Spring Festival The Lebanese outdoor way of life event

The Garden Show & Spring Festival has been heralding the start of summer for eight years as gardening enthusiasts from around Lebanon flock to this annual celebration, held over five days at the historical Beirut Hippodrome. Flourishing at a glorious pace, the show has increased its number of exhibitors, events and attractions as it draws in more and more visitors each year, which peaked at an amazing 25,000 visitors in 2011.

Green is no longer just a color. It is synonymous with behavior; a new way of living. We all have to input our green initiatives, not only to save the planet but also to make our daily life healthier and much better and brighter. Being green is about saving water and energy, changing the way we take care of our house and garden, growing more of our own food and creating beautiful landscapes with less water-quenching plants.

It is for these reasons that the theme of this year is “The Green Attitude”. This attitude is an attribute which can be applicable to each and every one of us and in all domains of our life, and especially in the arena of outdoor living.

The 9th edition of The Garden Show & Spring Festival promises to build upon its previous successes and keep on celebrating and enhancing the great Lebanese Outdoor Way of Life, thus creating a greener Lebanon.

Each year this vibrant and happy event is eagerly awaited by all. It is a five-day event that is not to be missed.

Meilland story and presentation Beirut Rose, description

Established in 1850, already 6 generations ago, as an entirely family business. Located in the south east of France in the Var au Cannet de Maures department on a 350 hectare domain dedicated to the creation, research and selection of new varieties of roses grown in greenhouses, in that case, we talk about roses for or outdoor roses, and in that case we talk about roses for parks or flower pots. 2500 individuals work for Meilland in the world, 25 of them are in the Var in France. Creation and research in Cannet des Marres : between 5 and 8000 crossbreeding each year representing between 100 and 120000 fertilized flowers. From this fertilization process, between 200 and 250000 grains are planted. 3 early selection stages take place in Cannet des Maures before referral to the abroad stations. In final, 10 to 15 years are needed to commercialize a variety and each year 5 or 6 new varieties of cut flowers are obtained against 8 to 10 varieties for the outdoor roses. 12 research and selection stations for the cut flowers: - In Europe : the Netherlands, France, Spain - In Latin America : the Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico - In Africa : Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa - In Asia and Oceania : Japan and Australia

Some of the globally renowned varieties : Grand Gala, Leonidas, Sonia, and currently Samurai in red

7 research stations for : - In Europe : the Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain - In North America – United States of America (Pennsylvania and California) - In Asia : Japan

Some of the globally renowned varieties : the Peace rose or Gloria Dei or Madame Meilland, Black Baccara, Charles de Gaulle and currently Pullman Orien Express, Princess of Monaco, in Hybrid with tea, then the Jubilee of the Prince of Monaco, Leonardo de Vinci in Floribonda, Pierre de Ronsard, Eric Tabarly en Grimpant and finally all of the Meidiland family including the knock out lineage planted in several millions each year in the United States of America and the last born is: the DRIFT series compact landscaping. Meilland has been associated with the biggest number of nurserymen in the world in order to spread its garden varieties : Richardier in France, Ferrer in Spain, Conard Pyle in the USA. Each year or so, more than 50 million rosebushes of the Meilland varieties are planted outdoors in the world. More than 200 Meilland garden varieties are marketed each year. "Beirut Rose" is part of the latest varieties and allies the modernity of 100% disease resistant, highly floriferous and ever bearing roses to the old, romantic and fragrant roses of the past. Shrub capacity, the rose (7-10 cm in diameter) has 75 to 80 petals of an intense pink color insensitive to rain and each stem bears bouquets of 5 to 25 flowers. Height: 0.70 to 1 m Finally, the rosebush has received the highest distinction at the global level : ADR* *The ADR label (Allgemeine Deutsche Rosenneuheitenprüfung) is offered each year to new rosebush varieties proposed by their growers in order to be tested in real conditions. This competition which has been created in 1947 is considered to be one of the most difficult rosebush competition in the world. The shrubs are evaluated in real-life conditions without any treatment during three years and in eleven experiment stations all over Germany. The rosebushes are tested for their resistance to cold, diseases (namely fungal), and parasites as well as their flowering, bearing capacity, beauty, scent, color and growth.
