Flourishing at a glorious pace, the show has increased its number of exhibitors, events and attractions as it draws in more and more visitors each year, which peaked at an amazing 25,000 visitors in 2011. Green is no longer just a color. It is synonymous with behavior; a new way of living. We all have to input our green initiatives, not only to save the planet but also to make our daily life healthier and much better and brighter. Being green is about saving water and energy, changing the way we take care of our house and garden, growing more of our own food and creating beautiful landscapes with less water-quenching plants. It is for these reasons that the theme of this year is “The Green Attitude”. This attitude is an attribute which can be applicable to each and every one of us and in all domains of our life, and especially in the arena of outdoor living. The 9th edition of The Garden Show & Spring Festival promises to build upon its previous successes and keep on celebrating and enhancing the great Lebanese Outdoor Way of Life, thus creating a greener Lebanon. Each year this vibrant and happy event is eagerly awaited by all. It is a five-day event that is not to be missed. Outdoor furniture, pergolas, umbrellas, barbecues, fabrics and a whole range of small and larger decorative pieces will bring a vacation ambience to your outdoor space. Designers on the Lawn Artisans gathered by Nayla Bassili display their authentic goods in a creative and colorful atmosphere. Spoil yourself and take home unique handmade pieces created especially for you. Souk el Tayeb The producers of Beirut’s first farmer’s market keeping it fresh and organic. Come and chat with the producers and find out about fresh, traditional and organic food products and take healthy Lebanese food back home to the whole family. Kids’ Village Kids can enjoy the biggest park in the heart of Beirut. There’ll be laughing and singing with animation by le ‘Club des 2 Clowns’. EVENTS Opening Ceremony & The Beirut Rose launching Tuesday May 29 at 4 pm: In a fanfare of flowers and as a tribute to the Lebanese Art de vivre, and under the patronage of the president of the Beirut municipal council, Dr. Bilal Hamad, members of the municipality board, officials, ambassadors, VIPs, the godmother of the rose, Ms Tania KASSIS, Miss Liban Ms. Yara Khoury Mikhael, guests and friends will gather to launch the Beirut Rose and to open the 9th edition of The Garden Show & Spring Festival. Why a BEIRUT ROSE? Beirut used to be the Garden city, quite a long time ago… But until today, in Beirut each parcel of land left alone starts blossoming with all kinds of wild plants. Life always finds its way as Beirut always reborn. Molded in history, Beirut faces the Mediterranean and has proudly proven over the centuries her perpetuity, her courage and her love of life to her inhabitants and the rest of the world. To celebrate this unique and cherished city, the Garden Show & Spring festival is offering the Beirut municipality a rose called “The Beirut Rose”. This rose is from the French rose producer “Meilland” and will be available in its catalogue all over the world. (Refer to Meilland history and presentation) The Godmother of the rose is Ms Tania KASSIS Being the Agent of Meilland in Lebanon, and owning one of the most Innovative plant- nurseries in the Middle East, Robinson Agri will display a stand at the show to sell the rose. For all Beirut lovers Beirut rose will be also available at the nursery. Planting of Beirut Rose will take place on May 30, 2012 at 11 am at Martyr Square Eco House In collaboration with Sponsored by Adopt a green attitude, save on energy bill and reduce your carbon footprint! The purpose of an eco-house prototype is to demonstrate how people can live in an environmentally friendly way, reduce their energy bill and their carbon footprint. The house showcases features and ideas to inspire and encourage visitors to immediately make green and sustainable changes to their own homes and gardens. The eco-house will market and promote eco-friendly technology and equipment to inform the visitor about: Efficiently using energy, water and other resources How to save energy and reduce the bills The latest green technologies How to reduce carbon footprint Reducing waste, pollution and environment degradation Recycling and re-use Eco-products for the garden The green attitude to adopt every day, everywhere Guest: Loïc Pequignot Founding President of Windeo Loïc Pequignot (MBA in French Business Studies and Master in finance) benefits from over 15 years of experience in large international groups, as a Commercial Director and Marketing Director (Lease Plan, Mercedes-Benz Group, Fiat Group). His perfect command of four languages (French, English, Italian and Spanish) allowed him to supervise the development of the European network Minorplanet Systems (General Electric Group), leader in the vehicle GPS tracking secor, creating 5 subsidiaries and managing over 500 people. In 2005, as the CEO and President, he joined the Risc Group, a listed French information technology services company, to restructure and redevelop it in Europe. Portraits of Gardeners Photo exhibition and For the first time, the garden Show & Spring Festival is launching a photo competition. The theme is: Portraits of Gardeners. This Competition is organized with NIKON SCHOOL and the Agenda Culturel as a media partner. While the frame remains unchanged throughout the years, objects and furniture are not the same. Each year, they have to reflect a specific theme and they are created and conceived by you.
