Catherine didn't have any idea how her life would become upside down when Demeris arrives in her life, not in a good way. He is trouble, ensuring at each point Catherine suffers. It is the sequel to The Other Side of Midnight but you will not miss out on anything much. The story is still enjoyable. View 1 comment. Jul 11, Susan's Reviews rated it really liked it. Sequels are usually tamer than the first book. This one was still a good read, but was probably a sop to those of us who felt a bit cheated at poor Catherine's fate. I think Memories of Midnight all wanted a bit more for her. What a painful read this has been! Everything from the plot to the writing was utterly banal. This book Memories of Midnight manage to quirk my interest at any point. The whole thing to me seemed blatantly stupid, to be honest. Characters, along with being hackneyed were also completely unrealistic. Especially, Constantin Dimires who was most ludicrous of all. I've read 2 Sidney Sheldon books before this and one thing that I've found to be consistent in his novels is the dreadful writing. The language, as alway What a painful read this has been! The language, as always, was extremely appalling and the plot even more asinine. After this book, I seem to have developed a strong aversion to Sheldon's books, for good. View all 9 comments. Jun 27, Jeremy Bates rated it it was amazing. Memories of Midnight is a sequel to The Other Side of Midnightwhat many people consider to be one of his best novels. Memorieshowever, holds its own mixing revenge, greed, justice, and romance. I think it's a sign of a good Memories of Midnight if, after some ten odd years, you can read it again and remember nearly all of the characters. That's what this one was like for me. Demiris, the vengeful Greek billionaire; Chotas, the brilliant lawyer; and Catherine, the amnesic who just wants to fall i Memories of Midnight is a sequel to The Other Side of Midnightwhat many people consider to be one of his best novels. Demiris, the vengeful Greek billionaire; Memories of Midnight, the brilliant lawyer; and Catherine, the amnesic who just wants to fall in love the weakest character of the bunch, imo. Nevertheless, Sheldon is a master of Memories of Midnight. In fact I don't know anyone who writes as breezy as Memories of Midnight does a good thingwhile throwing in as many twists and turns. I think part of James Patterson's success is due to his incredibly short chapters. Like them or not, it just makes you feel like you're flipping the pages faster and you are because of all the white space! Similarly, part of Sheldon's success I think is due not to short chapters but his short paragraphs. Anywhere he can Memories of Midnight in a break he does. It's a good technique to keep things moving, and it allows him to jump all over the place and get inside everyone's head seemingly without effort. The late Sydney Sheldon was the author of eighteen bestselling novels. He wrote more than television scripts and twenty-five movie scripts and six Broadway scripts. He started writing novels at the age of fifty. Highly recommended. View 2 comments. Nov Memories of Midnight, Bren rated it it was ok Shelves: trilogys-and-other-seriessuspensedark-and-heavyread-and-reviewedcrime. Sorry Sheldon. Sorry sorry sorry sorry. It feels awful giving one of my favorite writer's books a two star rating. And this is not the only one of his books where I have done that Memories of Midnight nine times out of ten I love his books. It is just that he has so many it is inevitable there will be one or two I will not like. But this is the one that let me down the most. That was not a book that, in my opinion Sorry Sheldon. That was not a book that, in my opinion ever needed a part two. But as with most sequels It was a let down. None of the characters in book two who were in book one seemed to be the same person. They really didn't. But most of all was the issues with Constantine Demires. The master manipulator and a charismatic but mysterious and impossible to understand thunder bolt. Not in part two! Here he is literally a different person, the usual bumbling but dangerous Memories of Midnight. I could not believe it. In fact I was Memories of Midnight upset that I prefer to pretend I did not read this at all. Part of the allure. Now in book two he is just a frantic killer and still obsessed with Noelle Page. Malathy, M.A., PhD Courtesy: https://www.harpercollins.com.au/9780007228256/ Abstract The incessant thrill of Sidney Sheldon’s novels arises from the psychological impact left by one character over the other. Noticeably, the women characters of Sheldon take a lead role in bringing serendipitous link to his stories. They become psychological tools around whom the entire stories revolve. The delineation of Jennifer Parker in Rage of Angels (1980), Tracy Whitney in If Tomorrow Comes(1985), and Ashley Patterson in Tell me your Dreams(1998) stand a fool proof for the victim versus victor logistics thus unveiling the elements of postmodernism in the society. This perhaps incurs adequate mental agility of the victimized sect especially when it exclusively comprises women. The gradual evolution of a victim into victor in the life span of Sidney’s women protagonists is based on the impact of postmodernism which ==================================================================== Language in India www.languageinindia.comISSN 1930-2940 18:8 August 2018 Dr. P. CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Every human being uses defense mechanism in their life. “When anxiety occurs, the mind first responds by an increase in problem-solving, seeking rational ways of escaping the situation. If this is not fruitful, a range of defense mechanism may be triggered” (http://changinngmind.org/ explanations/behaviors/coping/defensemechanisms.htm). Defense mechanism only cause serious problem when people are excessively used. Defense mechanism is a problem that occurs in the real world and in the daily life. It may occur in the school life, such as when a teacher as the knowledge transferor in school thinks that she is a perfect and a brilliant person who give knowledge to the students. She forces her students to always follow and obey her ruler. They have to become a quite child in school. Her students then have a different personality in school and at home. They become a quite child in school because they are afraid of his teacher . They become a naughty child and revenge all the pressure that he gets from his teacher to his family at home. In this case, the children show defense against open expression of id impulses. According to Freud, defense mechanism “serves the useful purpose of defending the ego against the pain of anxiety. Although they are normal and 1 universally used, when carried to an extreme they lead to compulsion, repetitive, and even neurotic behavior” (Feist, 1985: 32). Defense mechanism is a problem of life. In literary work the characters face with some human problems that are usually faced in the real time.

www.kazirhut.com MEMORIES OF MIDNIGHT In The Other Side of Midnight Sidney Sheldon created one of his most unforgettable characters: Constantin Demiris, billionaire, art lover, womanizer . and killer. To Noelle, the woman who betrayed him, and Larry, the man who stole her, Demiris brought a chilling retribution. Now, in Memories of Midnight, he confronts the problem of someone else he believes has stayed alive too long. Greece, 1948. In the seclusion of a remote convent a young woman emerges from the trauma of memory loss. To Catherine Alexander, Larry's widow, Demiris seems a benefactor, the man who helps her build a life again. She knows that Larry and Noelle are dead but not who was responsible. Nor that Demiris' desire for revenge is unquenched; that there is a last, unsilenced victim. In this atmosphere of deception, Catherine's move to London seems just another example of Demiris' good nature. Set down in a strange and unsettling environment she cannot guess the fate her benefactor has in store, or that her life is inextricably bound up with other victims of his mighty ego. Moving from the exotic shores of the Mediterranean to postwar London, Memories of Midnight is the compelling portrayal www.kazirhut.com of one woman's fight against a terrifying destiny.
