Firearms E-book 2 by www.Military-Today.com Submachine Guns Submachine guns are automatic weapons, chambered for small caliber pistol cartridges. These weapons usually combine high volume of fire of the machine gun and compact dimensions at the expense of range and accuracy. Also they offer more controllable fire than automatic pistols. Most submachine guns have been designed for close encounters and concealed carrying. SMGs usually have effective range of about 50 to 200 meters. Typically submachine guns are blowback-operated and fire from an open bolt. They are usually chambered for the standard 9 x 19 mm pistol ammunition. Most SMGs have

    In the Norvinsk Region, a special economic zone that served as both a bridge between Russia and Europe as well as an excellent location for international companies to do business, a Britain-based corporation called Terra Group began conducting illegal experiments under the guise of creating “new, cutting edge technologies.” When the Russian government began to investigate Terra Group hired a PMC known as USEC (United Security) to act as their proxy private army to disrupt any investigations on their activities. With traditional methods exhausted and their hands legally tied the Russian government took a new approach and secretly created a PMC of their own, known as BEAR, who could successfully combat USEC while keeping their hands clean. It was soon discovered that some elements of the local government also had a hand in Terra Group’s activities by hiding their facilities and officially slating the new USEC forces as being used for “agricultural and mining security”. The Russian government began to believe that these activities were a genuine threat to national security and therefore invested a great deal of resources into BEAR. USEC and BEAR soon came to blows all across the region, the fighting intensifying to the point where a six month political scandal resulted in the involvement of the UN, who soon proved to be ineffective against either side. Eventually, the Norvinsk Region was evacuated by the majority of the civilians who had made their homes there due to the incredible danger that resulted from these battles. Yes, just most of them. Some were ​ ​ unable to leave in time, but some willingly stayed behind in the now mostly lawless area.

    By David Crane Photos courtesy U.S. Army olt’s M4 carbine came in dead last in an “Extreme Dust Test” (EDT) con- ducted in the fall of 2007 that pitted the current-issue carbine against the FN’s Mk16 (SCAR-Light), HK’s 416, and HK’s XM8. The impetus for the test, the second dust test con- ducted on the M4 in the same year (2007), was CSen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who believed that more reliable assault rifles and carbines than the M4 existed and should be compared to the M4 before the U.S. Army issued an approxi- mately $375-million sole-source procurement contract to Colt. In April 2007, Sen. Coburn stated in a letter, “I am concerned with the Army’s plans to procure nearly half a million new rifles outside of any competitive process.” So, Coburn asked that the Army hold a “…free and open competition.” Accordingly, the U.S. Army Test and Evalu- ation Center (ATEC) team tested 10 sample guns of each weapon system, 40 guns total, and exposed them all to 25 hours of “dusting.” Dust testing consisted of each rifle getting a heavy dose of lubricant, the muzzle being capped, and the ejection port cover closed. Then, each weapon was exposed to a heavy dust environment in a dust chamber for 30 minutes. After the dust bath, a tester fired 120 rounds through each weapon. The AK-47, for example, is actually no more lethal than most other small arms in its class, but popular notoriety and Hollywood representations tend to credit it with superior power and lethality. Similarly, the bayonet actually killed relatively few men in World War I, but the sheer thought of an enraged foe bearing down on you with more than 30cm of sharpened steel was the stuff of nightmares to both sides. In some cases, however, fear has been perfectly justified. During both world wars, for example, artillery caused between 59 and 80 per cent of all casualties (depending on your source), and hence took a justifiable top slot in surveys of most feared tools of violence. The subjects of this book – the MG 34 and MG 42, plus derivatives – are interesting case studies within the scale of soldiers’ fears. Regarding the latter weapon, a US wartime information movie once declared that the gun’s ‘bark was worse than its bite’, no doubt a well-intentioned comment intended to reduce mounting concern among US troops about the firepower of this astonishing gun.

    SALW Guide Global distribution and visual identification FN P90 Fact sheet https://salw-guide.bicc.de FN P90 SALW Guide FN P90 A personal defense weapon (often abbreviated PDW) is a compact semi- automatic or fully-automatic firearm similar in most respects to a submachine gun, but firing an (often proprietary) armor-piercing round, giving a PDW better range, accuracy and armor-penetrating capability than submachine guns, which fire pistol-caliber cartridges.The P90 was designed to have a length no greater than a man's shoulder width, in order to be easily carried and maneuvered in tight spaces, such as the inside of an armored vehicle. To achieve this, the weapon's design utilizes the unconventional bullpup configuration, in which the action and magazine are located behind the trigger and alongside the shooter's face, so that there is no wasted space in the stock. The P90's dimensions are also minimized by its unique horizontally mounted feeding system, wherein the box magazine sits parallel to the barrel on top of the weapon's frame. Overall, the weapon has an extremely compact profile.
