Congratulations to Pat Sullivan and to WELCOME All the 2014 High School Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees Welcome to the third New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame Ceremony. The sport has come a long way in the Garden State since the formation of the North Jersey Scholastic League in the winter of 1958 - 59. Only five teams were involved in league competition at that time.

The Sport began to take off after the first state championship game was held in March of 1976 at Mennen Arena, between Brick and Chatham Township . Now there are more than 200 high school hockey teams in the state of New Jersey.

Today, recognition is given to the athletic achievements and exceptional service of 17 individuals and two teams.

Chris went on to play with the New Jersey Rockets where he was part of the National Championship team in 1978. Congratulations! Later Chris played at Seton Hall Prep where he was part of New Jersey’s first All-State team in 1979. After high school, Chris went on to play for the University of Wisconsin in Madison Wisconsin. Today he lives in Basking Brandon Doria Ridge with his wife, Tracey, daughter, Chris Seebode Julia and son, Christopher. Goalie Seton Hall Prep Millburn High School Booster Club Dustin began his youth hockey with the Brick Hockey Club before attending Players Christian Brothers Academy where he was an integral part of the school’s 3 consecutive Gordon Cup and State & High School Championship teams from 1994-1996. The 2 time All State defensemen Administration captained CBA in his Junior and Senior seasons and was voted player of the year in 1996. After high school he attended University of Connecticut. Dustin has coached in New Jersey at the Junior and Youth levels for more than a decade and Dustin DePalma is most proud of helping many NJ Defenseman players develop and progress in the game. CBA Mats Carseberg Forward West Windsor/Plainsboro S Lawrenceville Prep

Born in Tumba, Sweden in August of 1977, Mats Carseberg came to the United States with his family in 1991. As a freshman at West Windsor/ Plainsboro High School he was very quiet and hardly noticeable off the ice, but on the ice he was hard to overlook. Mats is unquestionably the most dynamic Swedish player to ever play for a scholastic team in New Jersey. Carseberg set more than a dozen school, county and league records while collecting 225 points (151 goals, 74 assists) in two seasons at West Windsor-Plainsboro HS. He chose to transfer to Lawrenceville School, where he collected 53 goals and 39 assists in 42 games for a talented Big Red team. He was a first team NJ All Star both seasons at Lawrenceville. In his final season at Lawrenceville he was a participant in the annual Senior All-Star Game. He was also selected as a NJ Devils Player of the year.

Pat was the last four sport athlete at Seton Hall; he played quarterback and safety for football, guard for basketball, center and defense for hockey and was the catcher for the baseball team. Pat was a member of the inaugural hockey squad at Seton Hall. Pat received individual all state honors for hockey and baseball his junior and senior years. Pat was leading scorer for the New Jersey Interscholastic League the first year the Prep entered the league and won the B championship. In baseball, Pat was the team’s batting leader in 1971 the first year Seton Hall won the Greater Newark Championship Crown (the Pat Sullivan State’s most prestigious tournament at the time) and Forward the Parochial A State Championship. Pat captained Seton Hall Prep three teams as a senior and received the Essex County Scholar Athlete Award in ’72. Pat was inducted into the Seton Hall - Hall of Fame in 1990. He went on to the U.S. Military Academy playing varsity baseball for 3 years and varsity hockey for 4 years. Pat captained the Army hockey team in his senior year leading the squad to the NCAA Eastern Regional Semi-Finals. Pat served 20 years in the military as an U.S. Army Infantry Officer and continued to coach youth hockey through high school and college level winning several state and regional championships. Robert “Bobby” Crothers Forward Morris Knolls Congratulations! Bobby played varsity hockey at Morris Knolls High School in the early 70’s. For his state leading performance in his senior year, scoring 46 goals and 37 assists, he was named the 1972 MVP of the New Jersey Scholastic Hockey League. In 2000 he was named to the Star DUSTIN DE PALMA Ledger 1970’s All-Decade Ice Hockey Team. A three-letter athlete who was also a football standout, Bobby was the Morris County leading scorer in the fall of his senior year, with 17 touchdowns and amassing a total of 104 points. He was known for his speed on the ice and field. At home on the ice, Bobby’s coaches called him a selfless player, always On this looking for his teammates first. After graduation, he played on several semi-pro teams, but the highlight of his hockey career was an invitation to try out for the 1976 Olympics in Lake Placid. well-deserved

Brandon Doria was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ. Freshmen year he led his team in scoring and earned honor a varsity letter playing at Hudson Catholic. Sophomore year he transferred to Seton Hall Prep and over the next three years the Pirates won three League Titles, three Parochial State Titles, two Overall State Titles, and two Gordon Cups. From your friends Individually he won two Gordon Conference scoring titles, and was named the NJ Devils Player of the Year and the NJ High School Player of the Year in at 1999. He ended his High School Career playing in 92 games, with 116 goals, 119 assist, totaling 235 Brandon Doria points and averaging 2.55 ppg. After High School Garden State Forward he went on to play Division I at Holy Cross Seton Hall Prep tallying 139 points in 136 games, being named Offensive Player of the Year for the MAAC Office Systems & Conference his senior year in 2003. He was also a finalist in the Walter Brown Award, given to the best American born hockey player playing Equipment Division I College Hockey in New England. After college he played four years in the minor leagues, winning a Championship while playing with the Groningen Grizzlies in the Netherlands. In 2006, he was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame. Brandon is still involved in NJ High School hockey today, coaching the Varsity Millburn Hockey Team. Stan graduated from Bayonne High School in 1988, where he was an All-County Athlete in three Sports Soccer, Hockey, and Baseball. During Stan’s senior hockey season he broke the State record for goals scored in a single season with 79, and earned Conference MVP as well as All-Conference and All-State honors. After his graduation his hockey sweater was retired in 1989 and he was voted one of the top ten New Jersey High School Hockey players of the Decade. Stan followed his passion and played Stan Gutt two seasons of Junior “A” Hockey in Canada Forward with the Pembroke Lumber Kings and the Bayonne Dauphin Kings. In 1990 he was recruited by SUNY Potsdam, NY and agreed to matriculate. His freshman year he was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. Stan spent three years at SUNY Potsdam and lead them in scoring all three years as well as receiving the Most Valuable Player Award his junior year. Stan finished his collegiate career at SUNY Fredonia where he was a key contributor to their success as the team advanced to the NCAA D-III National Championship. Stan was also recognized in 2012 when He was inducted into the Bayonne HS Hall of Fame. Stan continues to Coach Youth Hockey and for over a decade he has also been head coach of the Middletown (N. J.) South High School team. Stan and his wife Shannon reside in Middletown with their three children John, Sarah and Shane.

Chris Ohlweiler Forward Chatham Township

Chris Ohlweiler played for Chatham Twp. between the years 1979-1983 amassing a school record 258 pts. He scored the winning overtime to take home Chatham Twp.'s last Mennen Cup in1981. Chris was awarded the Edward Halvorsen MCS- SIHL MVP Award in 1983. He was a three time Daily Record First Team All-Area performer and was selected to the Star Ledger All State Team his senior year. He went on to play 4 years at St. Bonaventure taking home 4 ICHL crowns. After college, Chris coached for7 years in the New Jersey Colonials and Chat- ham Youth hockey organizations. Chris lives in Mendham NJ with his wife Shanon and 2 children, Billy 5 and Caroline 2. Michael Pendy Mike played youth hockey from an early age at various Forward clubs across the state. In high Delbarton school he played at Delbarton Congratulations where he earned All-State status and helped lead the team to be Co-Champions in 1989. In his senior year, Mike earned the school's single season scoring record as well as the state's playoff goals Brandon record, both only recently broken. Playing for Bowdoin College he helped lead the team to an ECAC Division III Championship his senior year. After college, he played professional hockey in Sweden for two seasons. In 2010, Mike helped on this great organize and participated in the "Frozen Flashback," a charity hockey game between Delbarton and St. Joseph's (Montvale) as the original state championship game in 1989 was cancelled due to measles. This successful event was attended by over 2,500 people, broadcast on MSG, and raised over Achievement $250k for cancer charities. Presently, he works in finance and lives in Far Hills, NJ with his wife Katarina and his three boys Trip, Max and Charlie and continues to play at the Essex Hunt Club as well as coach with the NJ of being installed in the Colonials.

Pat Verney Forward New Jersey Hudson Catholic A native of Hudson County, Patrick Verney has High School Hockey spent much of the last 20 years involved in New Jersey Hockey. Hudson Catholic was a powerhouse in the state during Verney’s four years(1995-1999), Hall of Fame compiling a record of 86-19-12 . Verney received National B Division MVP his junior and senior years, and was also recognized on the Star-Ledger All-State teams in both of those seasons. He finished Class of 2014 his career fifth all-time in the state with 301 points (117g, 184a). After his playing career, Verney has stayed involved in the sport. He was named the Star-Ledger Central Jersey Coach of the Year in 2007 as the Head Coach of Hillsborough High school, and he received the Star-Ledger’s Essex County We could not be prouder Coach of the Year in 2009 as the Head Coach of Montclair High School. Verney currently works as a History teacher at Montclair High. He and his wife Krista have a 2 year old son, Patrick. Love, Mom & Dad Bruce Shatel Coach Delbarton

Bill Sidun Bruce Shatel completed his 13th season as the Delbarton Head Ice Hockey Coach. Shatel has posted an impressive record of 308-37-30 for a .893 winning percentage. In thirteen years, he has become the all-time winningest coach of Congratulations Delbarton’s highly respected program. His teams are best known for their work ethic and discipline. Under his tenure, Delbarton has established themselves as one of the preeminent high school On being inducted into hockey teams in Northeast. They have won 8 State Championships, 5 Gordon Cups, 8 Gordon Conference titles, 3 Mennen Cups, and 3 Mennen Division titles. Most importantly, many of Shatel’s players have committed New Jersey to play at the next level at some of the finest colleges in the Northeast. In 2013, a month after his team registered its 6th straight state title; Shatel watched three of his former players raise the National Championship trophy High School Hockey for Yale University.

Hall of Fame! Michael Reynolds As a player, Mike Reynolds rewrote the Coach record books at Madison, Toms River Warwick High South, CBA School in Rhode Love, Island and Merrimack College, Andover Mass. Mike was first team All-State in soccer and hockey. He was chosen Pat All-American at Merrimack in 1976. He was the first player ever inducted in his high school and college hall of fames. He played in the AHL, IHL, and Sue, Mike, Mike, Mel USAHL for two years and then he started his first coaching job at LaSalle Academy in Rhode Island, and then spent the next two years as an assistant varsity coach to Bruce Parker Don, Emily at Merrimack College. In 1980, Merrimack won the Division II ECAC Title. He then became player-coach in Sweden for two more years, then came back home to New Jersey with his wife Sharlene to become a teacher. Mike has Matt, Dan Luke coached four different high schools in New Jersey over his coaching career which includes: Madison, Toms River South, Toms River North, and most & Rebecca notably Christian Brother’s Academy. He was two-time Star Ledger Coach of the year with two different high schools (Toms River North and Christian Brother’s Academy). Star Ledger Coach of the decade in the 1990’s for New Jersey. His teams were credited with four Gordon Cups, four State Championships, and four #1 rankings statewide in the Star Ledger. Mike now runs the skating program at Navesink Country Club in Middletown, NJ, recently featured in the HBO Special 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic with James vanRiemsdyk of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bob Smith Bob has devoted 39 years to NJ high school hockey Coach as a player, coach and CBA, Pope John, official. He was an All- Hudson Catholic League Honorable Mention defenseman for Brick Township HS, playing on the 1975 -76 Gordon Cup and 1975-76 and 1976- 77 State Championship teams. Bob started his coaching career in 1980 as an assistant coach at CBA. The next season, at the age of 23, Bob was appointed head coach. In his first season (1981-82) as head coach, CBA compiled a record of 3-13-2 in the NJIHL A division. The following season, CBA went 22 -2-1, winning the NJIHL B Division Championship, the NJSIAA State Championship, the Star Ledger Trophy and the Star Ledger Coach of the Year. In the 1990-91 season, Bob lead CBA to the Gordon Cup Championship. At the time, Bob was the youngest coach to win a State Championship. He was the first person to win a state championship as a player and coach, and he is the only person to ever win the Gordon Cup and State Championship as a player and coach. Bob built CBA into a state power, with a winning tradition which continues to this day. In the mid 90’s, Bob started the ice hockey program at Pope John HS of Sparta, where he led them to their first ever NJSIAA playoff appearance. Bob was also the head coach of Hudson Catholic HS for three seasons, and officiated HS hockey for 16 seasons as a member of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association.

Bill has provided leadership, Bill Sidun guidance, instruction and Official administration to the High School and Amateur officiating community in New Jersey over the past forty years. He first became an ASAUS (now USA Hockey) official in 1974 and then served as Second Vice President (1990-1998) and President (1999- 2005) of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association, Metro NY-NJ Chapter, which provides all New Jersey High School Hockey Officials. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, Bill mentored many future officials through the North Jersey Ice Hockey Officials School created by HOF Inductees Paul McInnis and Vin Godleski. Additionally, he developed refresher exams for all High School officials to provide uniformity in High School Officiating. Bill continues to referee NJ High School Hockey and mentor young Ice Hockey officials through his position on the Executive Committee of the NIHOA Metro NY-NJ Chapter. Mike Morreale worked on enhancing the coverage of high school hockey in the Congratulations Garden State for over 17 years as a sports writer for The Newark Star-Ledger, serving from 1990-91 through 2006-07. to His coverage of the state included daily game coverage, a weekly Top 20, annual Ben Leuzzi All-Area and All-State teams, and the All- Century Team in 2000. He covered the sport when there was no separation of on his induction into tournaments (public/non-public) as there is today and staffed the first state the New Jersey High School championship series hosted by the New Mike Morreale Jersey Devils at Continental Airlines Contributor Arena in East Rutherford in 1998. In Hockey December 2004, Morreale was honored by the NJSIAA for his contributions to high school sports. In 2008 he earned the Hall of Fame. Dr. John J. McMullen Award, presented by the NHL’s Devils to an individual in support of amateur hockey throughout the state. Morreale, married and the father of two daughters, currently serves as a staff writer for the and its website, NHL.com. No one has done more for youth hockey in his lifetime! Ben Leuzzi An Achievement Contributor Ben Leuzzi has been involved in hockey for more than well-deserved! 60 years. One of his first experiences was in 1957 when he helped to build an ice rink on Passaic Ave. in Fairfield. A few months later the Willowbrook Rink opened where Ben, at the age of 18, formed a team called the Caldwell Jets and he was the owner, manager The Goret Family and the goalie. The Jets later became part of the Garden State League. A few years later Ben established the Golden Blades hockey team which gave high school players a chance to play hockey year round at a higher level and to get better competitive experience. In the 1970’s Ben became involved at Seton Hall Prep with Coach John Warchol as a goaltender coach. He stayed involved by being instrumental in the JV Hockey Program at Seton Hall Prep so that players would have the opportunity to get better and advance to the Varsity program. Ben than began coordinating the JV league which grew to 10 teams in the Essex County area. Ben also coordinated the Seton Hall summer clinics. Ben’s son Michael was a goalie at Seton Hall Prep and Providence College. In 1972 Ben opened Verona Sports, where many a young hockey player goes to purchase their equipment and have their skates sharpened by Ben’s dad Roland Leuzzi. Rick, a huge New York Yankees fan, Rick Bliwise started full coverage of High School and Contributor college hockey for The Star Ledger during the winter of 1978-79. He instituted All-State Teams, Team rankings and the Coach of the Year. Rick had a High School and College hockey column with the paper during the 1980’s. A sports writer since the spring of 1973, Rick came up with the idea for the New Jersey High School Hockey Hall of Fame during the winter of 2007-08. He formed a committee to put things in motion for the HOF, and eventually wrote a letter to former Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek to get the team’s support for the HOF. Rick, a history major at Upsala College, has interviewed a number of sports legends over the years. In hockey that included Herb Brooks. In the 1990’s, he did PR for the Yogi Berra celebrity golf tournament, an event which helped Scouts with Special Needs. Rick’s all time favorite sports figure, Yankee legend Mickey Mantle, appeared at that event for a few years. On the great 1961 club, Rick got to interview Mantle, Berra, Whitey Ford, Ralph Terry, Johnny Blanchard, Moose Skowron, Bobby Richardson, manager Ralph Houk and broadcasters Mel Allen and Phil Rizzuto.

The Gordon Cup has become symbolic of supremacy in High School Hockey. Every high school student who has ever played hockey in the North Jersey Scholastic Hockey League has dreamed of his team winning the Gordon Cup. Livingston High School finished the 1980 hockey season 19-6-1 and won the NJSIAA State Ice Hockey Championship. Livingston won the championship game to a standing room only crowd at South Mountain Arena against a heavily favored Brick team, 1-0 in Overtime. Sophmore Joe Tracy scored the shorthanded goal for the Lancer’s win. Jim Mair played the game of his life in the goal for Livingston. That season Livingston scored 190 goals while only allowing 67.

During Coach Bruce Shatel’s first year as head coach at Delbarton the team went 26-3-1 and beat Brick, 1-0 in the 2002 State Championship game. Freshman, Ned Crotty scored the games only goal in the third period. Goalie Memorabilia Tyler Deieso had 14 saves and forward Dale Reinhardt were also standout players that game. Reinhardt had a hat trick for Delbarton in a 7-1 win in the Mennen Cup final.
