He is a member of Parliament representing Asansol in the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha and currently serves as Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, in the Union Council of Ministers. He made a career as a singer playing Hindi movies in the mid-nineties and has sung for many films since. He mainly sings in Hindi, Bengali and Odian. However, he also did play singing in 11 other languages during his music career. He took up politics in 2014 and joined Narendra Modi's government. He previously served as Minister of State for Urban Development, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty and the Ministry of Heavy Industry and State Enterprises. Early life Supriyo was born and raised in Uttarpara, a suburb of Kolkata on the banks of the Huglov River in West Bengal. His parents Sunil Chandra Baral and Sumitra Baral. Babul comes from a musical family and is strongly influenced by his grandfather, Banicanta NC Baral, a Bengali vocalist and composer. He won several inter-school and inter-school music compositions, as well as performing on All India Radio and Doordarshan. He went to Don Bosco High School. which he became All India Don Bosco Music Champion in 1983, and The Most Enriching Talent in 1985. In 1991, he received a bachelor's degree in commerce from Serampor College. When he entered the entertainment industry, he changed the name of Napriya Baral to Babul Supriyo. Supriyo's personal life was presented by Riaa at Shah Rukh Khan's concert in Toronto. They married in 1995. His first child, Sharmili, was born in 1996. Supriyo and Riaa divorced in October 2015. On August 9, 2016, he married Rahna Sharma, a Jet Airways flight attendant. Political Career President Sri Pranab Mukherjee, sworn in as Minister of State Sri Babul Supriya (Babul Supriyo) Baral, at the swearing-in ceremony, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi november 9, 2014. An ardent fan of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi, Supriyo was represented by the Bharatiya Janta Party in March 2014. In India's general election in 2014, he was nominated by the party as a candidate in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, West Bengal, and won it by defeating Dola Sen. and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Reduction on 9 November 2014. He became the youngest minister. He worked in these ministries until July 12, 2016, after which his portfolio was changed to Minister of State for Heavy Industry and State Enterprises. In India's 2019 general election, Supriyo again defeated assunsol Lok Sabha as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party, defeating Moon Moon Sen by 1.97 Lakh votes and securing a total of 6.32 lakh votes. In May 2019, he became Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change. On August 13, 2019, Supriyo Babul accused the state government of not giving food to people affected by the cyclone in Fazarganj for 5 days. After a short career at Standard Chartered Bank, Supriyo chose singing as a career full-time career. He moved to Mumbai in 1992 to pursue a career in Bollywood. Kalyanji gave him a break and took him to perform abroad at their live performances. In 1993, he toured Canada and the United States with Amitabh Bachchan. He also toured the United States with Asho Bhonsle in 1997 and 1999. In addition to playing singing, he also did several stage shows. Babul Supriyo performed at Powai Sarvajanin Durgotsav in 2011. His breakthrough came with Dil No Del Ko Pukara in Kaho Naa ... Piaar Hai in 2000, film Hrytic Roshan. Some of his other popular Bollywood songs include Pari Pari Hai Ek Pari (Hungama), Hum Tum and Chanda Chamke (Fanaa). He is the host of the hit television show K for Kishore. He sang the opening themes of the series Balaji Telefilms. Meist beinhalteten diese herablassenden Beschreibungen, wie sie auch schon im 19. Jahrhundert zu lesen waren und sich in den 1970er sowie 1980er Jahren in schöner Regelmä- ßigkeit widerholten. So lautete es 1974 in einer Beilage der Times of India: „Jatra is a grotesque open-air revue, thundering out a simple tale, or point of view, which renders fragmentary blow-ups of attitudes, social conditions or religious myths. No technical finesse bolsters up its impact. Nor is any sophisticated élan malleted out of elaborate stage-decor, or scenic chiaroscuro. It’s basically an ephemeral, with little intel- lectual overtones, that entertains without making any demands. And its punch and force come from away of life unattended by social refinement” (Ranjan K. Banerjee 1974: 14). Jatra ist unkultiviert, geschmacklos und irgendwie auch grotesk, lauten die immer gleichen Motive, die sich auch in einer zehn Jahre später erschienenen Ausgabe des Patriot widerfinden, in der ein Theaterschauspieler zitiert wird, der sich aufgrund der besseren Verdienstmöglichkeiten schließlich selbst er- folgreich dem Jatra anschließen sollte: „Jatra? Who will do a Jatra – such a crude theatre form, lacking in sophistication? Why should it appeal to the mo- dern audiences fed on superior forms of entertainment?” (Chandanda Chakra- varty 1984). Doch gegen Ende der 1980er Jahre schlich sich in die Artikel auch noch ein zweiter Grundton ein, und dieser lautete: „the days of Jatra are numbered”, wie Ashish Sen es in der Amrita Bazar Patrika formulierte (1990).

SHRI MANSUKHBHAI DHANJIBHAI VASAVA: Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state: (a) whether sea/coastal erosion has increased in the country; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government has taken steps during the last three years and the current year to check such erosion; and (d) if so, the details of steps taken to check such erosion including Bharuch and Saurashtra? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO) (a) to (b) Shoreline change including erosion and sea level rise are slow phenomena and manifested globally. The Ministry of Earth Science monitors the shoreline changes along the Indian coast on an annual basis. Studies indicate various patterns namely, advancement of the sea landwards (erosion), advancement of the land towards sea (accretion) and stable shoreline respectively. Such shoreline changes have been observed for Southern Indian Coastal States, which have impacted the local habitations. (c) to (d) A national strategy for coastal protection along with guidelines for coastal protection measures have been framed for all Coastal States and Union Territories by this Ministry. The Ministry under the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP) prepared shoreline management plans for five (05) identified coastal stretches in Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal. To protect the coastal areas from erosion, initiatives such as mangrove plantation of about 16000 ha, shelter- belt plantation of 1900 ha and installation of Geo-Tubes in 500 m have been taken up as representative activities.

His father was Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, son of Maharaja Ishanachandra Manikya Dev Burman, Maharaja of Tripura. His mother was Raj Kumari Nirmala Devi, the royal princess of Manipur. SD Burman started working as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station in the late 1920s before commencing his musical journey in 1937 by composing songs for Bengali films. In 1944, Burman moved to Mumbai to score music for two films of superstar Ashok Kumar Shikari, Aat Din (1946) and Do Bhai (1947). Mera Sundar Sapna Beet Gaya sung by Geeta Dutt brought him fame. Burman embellished more than 100 films in Hindi and Bengali with his excellent music. His songs have been sung by all the established singers of the period such as Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Mukesh, and Talat Mahmood. Rahul Dev Burman (aka Pancham)1 was born on 27 June 1939 and is the son of Sachin Dev Burman (above).
