CV OF GIANNI BELLOCCHI

Current position: Research Director at Grassland Ecosystem Research Unit (UREP) of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) since 2010 (with permanent position since 2014). 5 Chemin du Beaulieu 63000, Clermont-Ferrand. France. Previous positions: Research associate at: Department of Agronomy and Agro-ecosystem Management of the (), 1997-1999; Research Institute for Industrial Crops of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture (, Italy), 1999-2005; GMO and Biotechnology Unit at the Joint Research Institute of the (Ispra, Italy), 2006-2009. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Agriculture and Environment at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italie) in 1997; Post-doc in agro-meteorology and crop modelling at Biological Systems Engineering Department of the Washington State University (Pullman WA, USA) in 1998. Research interests: With expertise in agro-climatic and hydrological modelling, the main focus at INRA-UREP is on carbon and nitrogen cycles in grassland ecosystems, with an interest in sequestration processes and greenhouse balances using simulation models. Three main dimensions are developed: (1) studying the impacts of climate change on grasslands and possible feedbacks, (2) analysing and reducing uncertainties in model responses, and (3) developing advanced infrastructures (platforms) for modelling and vulnerability analysis. A forth dimension is on: (4) new ways around the principles of co-construction in modelling to meet the needs of local stakeholders and institutional partners. Specific collaborations (e.g. with the Meteorological Observatory of Monte Pino, Italy) are conducive of ideas and methodological contributions adding value to science-society exchanges around the vulnerability of agricultural and natural ecosystems.
