About the artists

Fri, Apr 4 at 9pm FRO FRO (the moniker of Harold Davis, Jr.) creates eclectic instrumental music drawn from , rock, jazz, blues, and electronica. He has opened for and appeared with diverse acts including Tower of Power, Screaming Headless Torsos, Toots and the Maytals, and Garaj Mahal, and has released three self-produced : On Your Mark, Get Set, FRO!, The Paisley , and Surprise Music. In addition to his own band, FRO has played guitar with Dead Prez, Bazaar Royale, Mental Notes, Etro Anime, Toni Blackman, and many others.

Sat, Apr 5 at 9pm RES Soul-rocker RES sang supporting vocals for Cee Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley on their St. Elsewhere world tour for the smash hit "Crazy.” Her debut album, How I Do, landed her a spot on the Top 40 charts for the single "They Say Vision," its remix going to #1 on the dance charts. She later formed Idle Warship with Brooklyn rapper , and the duo released its debut album, Habits of the Heart, in 2011. She is currently finishing up a new album of original songs to be released later this year.

Fri, Apr 11 at 9pm Victor V. Gurbo & Co. Brooklyn-bred and bandleader Victor V. Gurbo composes folk-rock music with a contemporary twist. Victor V. Gurbo & Co. comprises Robert Glasser (lead guitar), Jason Laney (keyboard), Larry Johnson (bass guitar), and Arnold Brooks (drums), and won the Audience Choice Award in WNYC & WQXR's 2013 Battle of the Boroughs at The Greene Space. Most recently, the group performed a sold-out show with the Villalobos Brothers at the Mercury Lounge. The band makes its BAMcafé Live debut this spring with an evening of original Americana.

Sat, Apr 12 at 10pm Chris Rob Chris Rob infuses electro-funk, house, and rock music with inspiring lyrics, soulful melodies, and crowd chants. He has performed with stars including , Gordon Chambers, and Talib Kweli, and has performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Rob opened for and performed with at President Obama's Pre-Inaugural Ball, and contributed to ’s Grammy Award-winning album Graduation.

Fri, Apr 18 at 9pm Oscar Peñas Catalan guitarist, composer, and bandleader Oscar Peñas’ compositions merge diverse genres, cultures, and styles with fluidity and grace. He has been called “transnational cool” by WNYC, and his fourth album, Music of Departures and Returns, includes a Brazilian choro, a tribute to flamenco master Paco de Lucia, a jazz standard, and music by the great Catalonian composer Frederic Mompou.

Sat, Apr 19 at 9pm Trio Feral The three members in this New York City band have been playing together for years, but the music they make as Trio Feral is completely fresh. Bassist Jonathan Maron, drummer Bill Campbell, and keyboardist Barney McAll create electronic-infused studio productions as well as improvised jams. The group was recently featured in NPR’s “Must-See Projects at Winter Jazzfest” list, and promises to deliver a dance-floor-ready performance.

Fri, Apr 25 at 9pm Mad Satta Eight-member group Mad Satta uses time-honored soul and R&B music as a base for layering on their own contemporary rock, jazz, and funk twists. Comprising some of the most talented young musicians, Mad Satta is fronted by vocalist Joanna Teters, and features bass, guitar, drums, and a three-piece horn section. Recent live performances around Brooklyn have already generated buzz, and their BAMcafé Live debut is sure to keep it going.

Sat, Apr 26 at 9pm The Smyrk with special guest Mike Falzone New Haven-based band The Smyrk blends pop-rock fundamentals with a sexy R&B sensibility. They have released four EPs, appeared at SXSW, Afro-Punk Festival, CMJ, and Northside Festival, and have toured nationally. The Smyrk has opened for Living Colour, Trey Songz, Saul Williams, Ben Kenney, and the London Souls, and will share the BAMcafé Live stage with comedic musician and YouTube sensation Mike Falzone.

General Information BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas, and BAMcafé are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between St Felix Street and Ashland Place) in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). Both locations house Greenlight Bookstore at BAM kiosks. BAM Fisher, located at 321 Ashland Place, is the newest addition to the BAM campus and houses the Judith and Alan Fishman Space and Rita K. Hillman Studio. BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn’s only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcafé, operated by Great Performances, offers a bar menu and dinner entrées prior to BAM Howard Gilman Opera House evening performances. BAMcafé also features an eclectic mix of spoken word and live music for BAMcafé Live on Friday and Saturday nights with a drink and small plate menu available starting at 6pm.
