HALDIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Message

Message from the Chairman There is no benchmark to ascertain a society’s growth other than making a qualitative assessment of its multidimensional activities. Education, being one of the vital arena of social activities which can be studied, analyzed and visualized in order to comprehend how a society has been performing. Moreover, it is needless to mention that, technical education encapsulates a hefty share of the entire education sector. Having started our journey in 1996, it has been our constant endeavor to upgrade, modify and improve upon our standards to cater to the global need. Our guiding principle is to adopt the recent trends and advances in science and technology by providing state-of-the art acquaintance to our student, instilling in them the ability to learn so that they can face any challenge anywhere in the world. We sincerely feel that education should build character, sharpen the intellect and encourage boundless thinking. The idea is not to give the students just an assembly line degree but to sculpt the young minds into giants in knowledge with upright character and unwavering ethics, possessing a firm resolution to shape the outlook. Today, Haldia Institute of Technology has become an icon of technical education in eastern . The institute not only symbolizes quality education, it has set the bench mark of educational ambience. Its infrastructure, tranquillizing flora, teacher-student relation, quality of education imparted, well equipped laboratories, research projects, plight to uplift the socio-economically challenged toiling mass, community services, and above all its ethical values are being considered as ‘targeted standard’ in the society. It gives me great joy and content in stating that our much coveted Haldia Institute of Technology is going to publish the Year Book for the academic session 2017–18. Although, it is a standard protocol and appropriate exercise to compile this document that entails the entire curricular, co-curricular and extra- curricular activities accomplished by the whole fraternity of the Institute but the main objective should always be in compliance with the advent of science and technology for the betterment of the society. I earnestly hope that our Institute continues to achieve greater heights through hard work and dedication towards upliftment of society. I wholeheartedly extend my best wishes to this institution in all its future endeavors.

01 Message HALDIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Message from the Director I am extremely happy to note that Haldia Institute of Technology is going to publish the annual report in the form of year book 2017-18. It is focused on human development. It is an immense pleasure to know that this year book covers all about Staff Members, Students’ Achievements, Administrative Report, Teaching, Research and Consultancy capabilities, Collaboration with NIT-Durgapur, NIT-Hamirpur Lincoln University College, Malaysia & Ming Chi University, Taiwan, Publication of International Journals, National Journals, Conference Proceedings, Books/Book Chapters, Library, Training & Placement, Faculty outreach, NSS, Community Development Program, Alumni Association, Extra Curricular Activities including Cultural Activities and sports activities. Creating a world class educational institution is a challenge by itself. It is connected with a host of initiatives, which get tested over an extended period of time. Today the society seeks a generation of young people who are not only enlightened but also trained to think innovatively. They are expected to meet tough challenges and create opportunities in unconventional areas in a very short span with unprecedented success. It is my firm belief that obstacles do not deter success, rather they enhance one’s possibilities to succeed. With whole hearted support from everyone, Haldia Institute of Technology will achieve its goal very soon and establish itself as one of the leading institution of our country. This is our expectation that in near future, Haldia Institute of Technology will get autonomous status. Our aim is to get the status of University from UGC. 02 HALDIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Message

Message from the Principal

This is a happy moment for all of us that like previous years we are going to publish our Yearbook-2018. The yearbook is a book of facts that captures achievements of our students, faculty members, staffs, the nostalgic memories of the graduating batch and also reflects future direction of our institute. The beautiful years we spent in the Institute are engraved and expressed via photos and write-ups. Few years down the road when we will walk down the memory lane, the yearbook will be the light which will light up the faded memories and show the path through the old forgotten ways. The visuals of those old fleeting memories, photographs of their batch-mates, stills from the events that took place, inspiring words from the professors they looked up to and the aroma of the Institute that assisted them to foster their real-self remains embedded in the pages of the yearbook. The yearbook summarizes the year long activities within curriculum, extra curriculum, training and placement, seminars, workshops, research and developmental, consultancy, annual cultural fest and technical fest, sports and games, to frame it in documented forms. Sections, dedicated to each of the departments include major changes, activities, and achievements of the departments other than mentioning the placements of its graduating students. The yearbook also showcases all the events that Institute had organized in the preceding year. The Students' Alumni Cell also strives to make the yearbook as wholesome and complete which could entail the different prospects of life of the alumni. Yearbook articles synthesize state-of-the-art topics in all subfields of existing departments. It also presents new paradigms for understanding important issues in those disciplines. Yearbook reviews often include original data and analyses. It is particularly interested if articles on the relationship of new technologies of developments are also included. It is expected that this year’s articles will represent new interpretations, new methodologies and reviews that will hopefully be both useful and thought provoking. I hope this issue of Yearbook will strengthen the foundation of our Institute towards a bright future. I wholeheartedly thank all the members of the Editorial Board for their dedicated efforts for nicely publishing this in time.

55 Community Development Programme HALDIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

8. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME India is a vast country with a population of approximately 115 crore. 75% of India’s population lives in about six lac villages. There is a visible difference in rural and urban, rich and poor, highly educated and lesser educated, forward and backward areas. While resourceful people, particularly those living in urban areas, have had access to better education and professional training, but vast majority of those who live in rural areas and slums are lesser educated and hardly undergo any technical, professional and vocational training. In fact, for most of such people, quality education and higher technical and professional education is unaffordable. In terms of career options, such lesser educated and not so fortunate people tend to work in low paid unorganized sector. Per person productivity of such persons works out to be a small fraction of productivity of those who work in organized sector of Indian economy. In an increasingly competitive economic environment of our country, the unorganized sector, which is so important for the country, needs to increase the productivity of its manpower for its survival and growth. Yet another paradox before the Indian informal sector is that it can not afford employing highly educated and professionally trained manpower which usually aspires for highly challenging, rewarding and satisfying career. The only option available before the Indian informal sector is to depend upon relatively low paid manpower trained through non-formal system of skill development. There is, therefore, an urgent need to train millions of persons every year through a countrywide network of non-formal skill development. Such non-formal skill training should attract beneficiaries from all cross-sections of Indian society with special emphasis on SCs/STs, OBCs, women, school dropouts, minorities, physically disabled, economically weaker sections of the society and other under-privileged persons. Under present circumstances it is our responsibility to uplift our locality through non-formal skill training. Our institute has initiated the community development programme for fulfillment of the need of the local community, dropouts of the society, minorities, physically disabled, economically weaker sections of the society and other under-privileged persons. At present, Haldia Institute of Technology conducts various short term courses under community development programme, as follows. A) Short term certificate course(6 months) Fourteen(14) Short term courses(annexure 1),with a intake of 182 students, were started with a nominal fees for three month duration, later on it was extended to six-month on the demand of students. It includes various initiatives of the government like ‘National Skill Development Mission’, ‘National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (NSDC), 2015’, ‘Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)’ and the "Skill Loan scheme". PMKVY is the lead ship ‘yoyona’ (scheme) of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The objective is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood. The most attracting feature of this scheme is that, in this scheme ‘Training and Assessment fees’ are completely paid by the Government. The objective is to meet the challenge of skilling at scale with speed and standard quality. It will aim to provide an umbrella framework to all skilling activities being carried out within the country, to align them to common standards and link the skilling with demand centers.
