Village Hall News 2 You know how it is when you have good news? – you want to share it with others — Frances Medley

Ever since moving to Shawbury in 1978 I have been involved as a volunteer in the community; playschool, Sunday Parish Council News 2 School and summer holiday play scheme for starters. Around 26 years ago I took over the newsletter, which was initially a Church news sheet. The process then involved a friend typing the articles, cutting, sticking, tippexing out the outlines to get a decent master copy fit for printing. With computers the process became much easier and first Did you know 2 one computer colleague came on board, followed by a second, up to a few years ago when it became a family affair. During all this time nearly 40 distributors have diligently delivered a copy to every household each month, including the RAF camp. Some of these helpers date back to my first year, maybe even before then, and I would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone involved. Mobile Library 2 With the new Village Hall came a major role in running it, overseeing the bookings, invoicing and housekeeping for 10 years. As organist and treasurer for Shawbury and Stanton Churches for decades, many of you would know me from selling raffle tickets, house to house, for the Church summer fete which I organised for 17 years with loads of Advertisers 3 help from loads of people and this again gives me chance to thank all of them publicly. Several years ago, with Par- ish Council backing, we started the Buzz In, a weekly community café in the Village Hall. Out of an even longer list these are my main achievements. Moving to Shawbury was one of our best decisions. Advertisers 4 When you become involved in community life the rewards are far greater than any inconvenience incurred. When I had to give everything up in February last year to be treated over a 6 month period for leukaemia there was a bit of a panic but thankfully people came forth and everything continued. Once again many, many thanks to all concerned Any items for future issues and in particular to the 10 people who got landed with a job, not necessarily from choice! I am now back involved (to please contact Ruth Dee a lesser degree) and must say I have thoroughly enjoyed playing a useful part in the life of such a lovely village with by the 15th of the month such lovely people. on My good news mentioned earlier is that I have been awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal) which I will receive at a [email protected] local ceremony from the Lord Lieutenant and will be invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party next summer. One or 07718 286571 last thank you – to the anonymous kind person who nominated me. FLOWERS AND CLEANING 4 Sep Beverley Orme—Volunteers needed for all other dates. Dear friends,

Just over a year ago I moved to the tranquil village of to become Rector of St Luke’s Parish Church, and the Chapel of the Epiphany Peplow. I can honestly say I had no idea what that year would bring. Within a few months I was covering the Parishes of Shawbury, Stanton and Moreton Corbet. Although it was a bit hectic at times, I have loved every day, while being encouraged and supported by the Church Wardens, Readers and everyone in the congregations. Covering five churches means five times the paper work, and I could never do the administration without the help of Claire Crackett, who somehow keeps me organised. To help with the workload the Bishop has appointed the Rev Andy Smith from to work alongside me for the next year. I have no doubt Rev Andy will be welcomed just as I was, as we work together to build God’s Kingdom. Previously I had announced that there would be an Alpha course starting shortly, unfortunately it has been put on hold as I am having a hip replacement in September and will be out of action for a few weeks. Time passes so quickly, already the “summer” is nearly over, I wonder did we miss it? Most of us love the sun, it makes us feel better and somehow happier, but it doesn’t last. Why not take the opportunity to meet the “Son” who will change our lives, who will make us happier, who will make us feel worthwhile in this world, and who will never leave. I look forward to the next year working together in the parishes, and sharing God’s Love with you all. Your Rector Edith
