SYNOPSIS
of the CONSTITUTION and BY-LAWS
The name of the Association is: "Ohio Society of Washington, D. C." Its purpose is to cultivate social inter- course among its members, to promote their best interests, and to foster loyalty to country and love of state. There are three classes of membership: active, non-resident and honorary. Any person over eighteen years of age, who is a native of the State of Ohio, or has been a resident of Ohio for five years, or is the husband, wife, eon or daughter of a member of the Society, is eligible to active membership. Any person of like age and similarly qualified, residing elsewhere than in the City of Washington and not within twen- ty-five miles thereof, may be admitted to non-resident membership. The officers of the Society are a Pres- ident, three Vice-Presidents, a Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, Historian and six Trustees. The Board of Trustees consti- tutes the Governing Committee, of which the President, Secretary and Treasurer are members ex officio. Vacancies in the office of President, Vice-Presidents, Sec- retary or Treasurer, may be filled by bal- lot at any regular meeting of the Society for the unexpired term. The annual meeting is held on the 29th day of January, the anniversary of the birth of William McKinley, and three oth- er regular meetings are held on the sec- ond Monday of December, March and Ap- ril. Special meetings shall be called by the President on the written request of three members of the Governing Committee or ten members of the Society. iSYXOPSlS
At the April meeting all the oflBcers are elected by ballot for one year, and two trustees are elected, in like manner for three years each. The Governing Committee manages the general affairs of the Society, and has power to appoint committees, authorize the expenditure of money, elect new mem- bers and to suspend members for just cause. Vacancies in the Committee are filled by its remaining members until the next annual election, except vacancies among the ex officio members. The admission fee to active member- ship is Five Dollars and the annual dues are also Five Dollars, but a husband and wife may become active members by the payment of one admission fee, and the annual dues for both are Six Dollars. The admission fee of non-resident mem- bers is Five Dollars and their annual dues are Two Dollars. Failure for six months to comply with the requirements concerning payment of fees and dues will be deemed a declina- tion or resignation of membership; and no person w^ill be admitted to the Society if objected to by five members. The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote at any regular meeting after previous notice in writing to each resident member of the proposed amend- ment and of the meeting at which it is to be acted upon. The By-Laws may be amended by a like vote at any regular meeting, without notice. OFFICERS 1921-23
