Santa Barbara Vino Train

Greetings Vino Train Travelers,

We are looking forward to seeing you on our upcoming Vino Train…thanks for joining us! We should have a wonderful day of vintage travel, grand service from our onboard staff, and exquisite scenery as we race through three counties on our way to Santa Barbara. As a reminder, breakfast and dinner are included in your fare. Lunch and wine tasting is on your own while enjoying your 7+ hours of “play time” in Santa Barbara.

We wanted to send a few suggested instructions for arriving at Union Station and boarding the train:

The special private cars, Overland Trail and Pacific Trail, (our primary cars, sometimes additional or replacement cars are added) are coupled to 's regular northbound train #763 leaving LA for Santa Barbara at 9:11am. Please plan on arriving at least one half hour before train time to allow for parking and finding our departure track and train. Just about any Amtrak employee will be able to tell you what track #763 will be leaving from (or where to wait until track number is assigned if you're real early). This is KEY information, so please remember train #763!

PARKING & DIRECTIONS for LA Union

There are two areas to park your car:

Union Station proper (800 N. Alameda Street, LA 90012 - parking is $16.00/day, use lot B or D)

Patsaouras Transit Plaza (AKA Gateway Transit Center, AKA Union Station East – 810 N. Vignes St., LA 90012 - parking is $8.00/day).

The Transit Center is directly east of Union Station (and connected by a subterranean tunnel, the same tunnel from Union Station proper that accesses the tracks). To access the Transit Center -- If you start in front of Union Station (Alameda Street) go north, turn right onto Cesar E. Chavez and drive through the tunnel (under the railroad tracks) until Vignes St., then turn right and look for the entrance for public parking at the transit center. Use the elevator to the PLAZA LEVEL ... from there, make your way to the subterranean tunnel and look/ask for train #763 (almost always track 10-B). If you're extra early, walk through the tunnel to Union Station proper and enjoy that enormous 1939 public space!

Not all Amtrak staff may be aware of our special cars, (we are private, after all) but they will be able to point you to the right track if you ask for the location of Amtrak train #763. The “Santa Barbara Vino Train” will be coupled toward the rear of train #763.

As you walk up the ramp to track/train level, the train will head out north (towards the mountains); please walk toward the BACK of the train to find the Vino Train, a uniformed crew member will welcome you there! (Please do not be confused by the fact that there will be a locomotive on BOTH ends of the train. ALSO ... for any operating reason whatsoever, there is always a slight chance that we could be on the other end of the train ... don't go away mad without checking with the Amtrak train conductor or checking the other end!)

Please print at least pages 1 and 2 (suggest double sided printing) and bring it with you ... our cell numbers are on it in case of emergency.

Because we are asked all the time: Tipping

Our food service crews are adequately compensated for their labor aboard train. We feel we hire only the best people (after all, both our daughters are normally part of the crew!!). If you feel that a particular member of the crew or the crew in general has done an outstanding job and you would like to say thanks in a tangible way, we would invite you to do so. (Note: tips are shared by the service staff, the chef and waiter/waitresses)

Our meals are served family style with one entrée served to all

If anyone has dietary restrictions, we must know about them early. We offer gluten free, vegan and vegetarian meal options when required and requested ahead of time. Please let your server know ahead of each meal if you have preordered a specific alternative meal.

If you wanted to avoid the drive into , you could board at your local Amtrak station. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, simply detrain and walk back to the historic Vino Train equipment which will be added to the consist of #763 during the scheduled dwell time. There is extra cost, of course, but you can buy your ticket online (Amtrak.com) and save the drive time pre and post Vino Train!
