page 2 KINNESTON HORSES IN TRAINING 2020 – WELCOME

Last season was dramatically foreshortened just as we were preparing for many valuable end of season targets; so many people being ill put our loss of sport into perspective but nevertheless with hindsight it was disappointing. Comparisons with previous years are therefore difficult; we sent out 153 runners compared with 226 runners the previous season, our win and place rates of 13% and 52% were identical to the previous year and our average “earnings per runner” was a very respectable £1270, slightly below 2018/19 but well ahead of earlier years and significantly above the national average. This figure is going to be hard to maintain if prize money is reduced as threatened.

I am pleasantly surprised by how well our stats held up given that we retired 14 horses at the end of the previous season, many of them consistent handicappers. We were fortunate to have an influx of 15 new horses most of which did not get a chance to run so the good news is that they should all run this autumn. As a result, we undoubtedly have the best team of horses we have ever assembled and most of them have age on their side which makes it an exciting time for the yard. We are all hugely indebted to you as the Owners for your support, having the confidence to give us the opportunity to train such lovely horses.

Our recent investment in facilities is paying dividends and we are now seen as leaders in that regard with training colleagues interested in the design of our new barn, our gallops and our cold water dip which has proved a particular success. This summer has seen further investment in tweaking the facilities as we continue to mine down on the detail of every aspect of what we do, always trying to seek an edge through incremental improvement.

We do that through a fantastic team of dedicated staff, largely unchanged from last season other than Bruce Lynn taking over as conditional jockey; they are an exceptional group. I do my best to provide an attractive working environment and routine with a framework that encourages their input and ensures they genuinely play a part in the development of each individual animal. Our award-winning approach is nationally recognised and is something we continually strive to improve.

We also want to improve how we communicate and involve you as our Owners, whilst we hugely enjoy your visits and look forward to having everyone together again in 2021 we want to use some of the tools learnt through lockdown to connect with Owners in the hope that you find your involvement at Kinneston interesting, rewarding and above all, fun.

Thank you for your support and hope to see you here soon.

BENNY’S SECRET (IRE) 2010 Bay Gelding by Beneficial (IRE) ex Greenhall Rambler (Anshan) – Rating 118c 118h Owner: Brian Castle Benny’s Secret has been a tricky horse to train over the years but has now amassed seven wins and has become a lot more consistent now that we have worked everything out. He finished last season winning off his highest mark and I would like to think there is more to come over 2m 4f plus now that he has learned to settle assuming we can keep him healthy.

CALIVIGNY (IRE) 2009 Bay Gelding by Gold Well ex Summer Holiday (IRE) (Kambalda) - Rating 112c 112h Owner: Alexander Family Calivigny won twice last season taking his career total to six wins, he is proving very versatile in terms of trip, track and ground and is equally effective over hurdles and fences. He should continue to be competitive this winter though may need a little leeway from the handicapper.

CLAN LEGEND 2010 Chesnut Gelding by Midnight Legend ex Harrietfield (Nicholas Bill) - Rating 129c 129h Owner: Clan Gathering The ninth and final foal of the yard matriarch Harrietfield, Clan Legend has nine wins to his name and after disappointing first time out last season then ran four very solid races in good company. Effective at 2m on heavy or further on soft there is no reason why he won’t be able to compete at a similar level for at least another season.

CRAIGANBOY (IRE) 2009 Bay Gelding by Zagreb (USA) ex Barnish River (IRE) (Riverhead (USA) – Rating 113c Owner: Quandt, Cochrane, Lysaght Craiganboy filled the runner up slot 3 times from his 4 starts last season and aside from the aberration of refusing to race one strange day at Ayr he is very consistent. Handicapper has been having his say though even when beaten which will make life a little tougher for him but despite reaching the veteran stage he will hopefully get his head in front again this winter. Prefers soft ground and a flat track. page 4 HANDICAP CHASERS

DIAMOND BRIG (IRE) 2012 Bay Gelding by Black Sam Bellamy (IRE) ex Lady Brig (Overbury) - Rating 105c Owner: Trevor Hemmings – to be sold at Goffs on 15.09.20 Diamond Brig was one of last season’s disappointments failing to live up to my expectations due to being very hard to keep healthy. The result is that if we can sort out his issues then he ought to prove very well handicapped and be able to fulfil the great promise he showed in his younger days in the point-to-point field. We know a lot more about him now.

EAGLE RIDGE (IRE) 2011 Bay Gelding by Oscar (IRE) ex Azaban (IRE) (Be My Native (USA)) - Rating 89c 89h Owner: Ken McGarrity & Murray Cameron Eagle Ridge broke his duck at Musselburgh in February having run well in defeat there through the winter, not an obvious track for such a big, long striding horse he seemed to appreciate the better ground and switch to fences. Lightly raced for his age he should still prove to be the right side of the handicapper and therefore be able to add to his tally this winter.

JOLIE CRICKETTE (FR) 2012 Bay Mare by Laverock (IRE) ex Crickette River (FR) (Cricket Ball (USA)) – Rating 80c 80h Owner: Mrs Jacqueline Morris Jolie Crickette won three chases in France as a young horse and a hurdle when she arrived in the UK. Soundness issues subsequently bothered her but last season was better and she was second twice, it has taken us a while to work out her trip & ground but we seem to have that right now and if we can keep her right she could prove well handicapped. 2m 4f plus on good to soft ground please.

MANETTI (IRE) 2012 Bay Gelding by Westerner ex Mrs Wallensky (IRE) (Roselier (FR)) - Rating 115c Owner: Sandy’s Angels Manetti won twice last season; this imposing son of Westerner is not straightforward but has bags of ability and should continue to improve, his win at Carlisle on his penultimate start was impressive and his last run at Kelso can be ignored. Now that we have him settled (at least in his races!) if we can improve his jumping then he could rate much higher over fences in due course, he is bred to stay very well.

page 5 HANDICAP CHASERS

McGINTY’S DREAM (IRE) 2011 Bay Gelding by Flemensfirth (USA) ex Laboc (Rymer) – Rating 88c 78h Owner: Kinneston Racing Ah, McGinty… after improving so well in the 2018/19 season last year was a bit of a let-down, possibly still feeling the effects of his heavy fall at Hexham in spring 2019 or possibly just being his unpredictable and irrational self. The handicapper has given him some relief and I’d be hopeful this three time winner can win again and rate higher, the manner of his two 2018/19 wins would certainly suggest there is still plenty of upside but how do we find it?

UP HELLY Aa KING 2011 Chesnut Gelding by And Beyond ex Gretton (Terimon) – Rating 113c Owner: Jean Matterson & Judy Douglas Miller Lightly raced again last season he was very consistent, improving with each of his three runs to round it off with a convincing win at Carlisle. A big, strong, old fashioned chasing type that can continue to progress despite his career high mark especially if he stays as we plan to step him up again in trip this winter. He has a fragile side but we’ve respected that and hopefully patience will be rewarded.

LAKE VIEW LAD (IRE) 2010 Bay Gelding by Oscar (IRE) ex Missy O’Brien (IRE) (Supreme Leader) – Rating 154c 147h Owner: Trevor Hemmings Lake View Lad has been a star for the yard and remains the highest rated horse in Scotland despite an apparently indifferent 2019/20 season. To a large extent he was the victim of his earlier success as he had to carry top weight every time in valuable races against improving younger horses. Despite being well beaten four times he remains 7lb higher than his last win and only 1lb lower than his gallant third at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival. This winter will be geared around having him in the best possible shape for the 2021 Grand National, whilst we want him to continue to run well we also don’t want him to remain in the handicapper’s grip for the rest of his career. A conundrum and the only way around it is to try to find a little improvement at the age of 10, will not be easy but will do everything possible.

CHANTING HILL (IRE) 2014 Bay Mare by Milan (IRE) ex Kitty Dillon (Westerner) – Rating 100h Owner: Quandt & Cochrane Purchased at the Goffs August sale last year this well-bred, big, strong, masculine mare looks every bit a chaser. Her first run for us last season was full of promise but she didn’t follow it up, tempted to blame the ground but she may just not have been quite right and hopefully a full summer to complete her acclimatisation will see the real horse emerge again this winter. Should prove well handicapped once we get everything lined up.

ELVIS MAIL (FR) 2014 Brown Gelding by Great Pretender (IRE) ex Queenly Mail (FR) (Medaaly) - Rating 137h Owner: The Ladies Who Our best novice of the 2018/19 season Elvis Mail progressed nicely again last winter winning the Scottish Champion Hurdle Trial at Ayr and a decent handicap hurdle at Kelso in January. The only blot was an ambitious trip to Newbury when he ran very flat in a race won by the Champion Hurdler of last season. He didn’t travel and we need to find a way around this as he ought to be able to compete at a high level over fences, he has summered well and schooled nicely in the spring so fingers crossed he has the chance to fulfil his potential.

page 7 NOVICE CHASERS

FINAL REMINDER (IRE) 2012 Bay Mare by Gold Well ex Olde Kilcormac (IRE) (Supreme Leader) – Rating 111h Owner: Brian Castle She won three hurdles in the summer of 2018 but picked up an injury in the summer of 2019 which kept her out of action last season. She stays very well and if she takes to fences should have a good career ahead of her in that sphere this winter, she prefers better ground but having had an injury will need handled carefully.

GIPSY LEE ROSE (FR) 2014 Grey Mare by Walk In The Park (FR) ex Vanoo D’Orthe (FR) (Valanour (IRE)) – Rating 110c 115h Owner: Sarah Irwin Having won a point to point and hurdle in Ireland she came to Kinneston in September 2019 and after showing initial promise failed to live up to expectations. It may have been ground related, something else could have been bothering her or it could have been a simple acclimatisation issue. Handicapper has cut her some slack as a result and she will prove well treated if (when?) we get her right, a very likeable forward going, good looking mare.

NOT THE CHABLIS (IRE) 2014 Bay Gelding by Scorpion (IRE) ex De Street (IRE) (Sunshine Street (IRE) – Rating 96h Owner: Turcan, Dunning, Stewart, Price & Burnham Finally got his act together when winning over hurdles at Musselburgh in January, we ran him back too quickly later that month and then Coronavirus spoilt our plan for a spring campaign at Perth. He seems inconsistent but may improve for being stepped up to 3 miles and should also be more effective over fences as he jumps well. Decent ground, fences and a trip might well see an improving and consistent horse emerge and he is still only 6yo.

SILK OR SCARLET (IRE) 2012 Chesnut Gelding by Mahler ex Spirit of Clanagh (Zagreb) – Rating 102h Owner: Ken McGarrity & Dudgeon, Cundall, Liddle We decided to leave him off for the whole of last season having picked up an injury in spring 2019. He has filled his frame during his time off and appears more powerful, as a runner up twice over hurdles he should improve for fences and prove well treated. Will start off over 2m 4f, ideally on softish ground and a flat track, may stay further in time.

ALWAYS TIPSY 2009 Bay Gelding by Dushyantor (USA) ex French Pick (USA) (Johannesburg (USA)) - Rating 111c 111h Owner: Alan Wight & Judy Cockburn He returned to Kinneston in the spring with a view to running at Perth this summer having done so well there last year. Circumstances forced a change in plans so he had a break but came in early and should be ready to run at Perth this month, 3 miles and soft ground would be perfect.

ARNICA 2013 Bay Gelding by Champs Elysees ex Cordoba (Oasis Dream) – Rating 103h Owner: Ken McGarrity A late developer as is typical of his sire he has proved consistent in his four bumpers and three hurdles to date looking like an out and out stayer. He is on a very fair mark to go handicapping when I would expect him to step up in trip and improve, especially on a flat track, seems versatile regarding ground.

ARTIC MANN 2014 Bay Gelding by Sulamani (IRE) ex Line Artic (FR) (Freedom Cry) – Rating 95h Owner: FOR SALE A nicely bred horse who has proved mentally and physically immature. Hopefully, the penny will drop this winter in which case he should prove very fairly treated, especially on decent ground over 2m 4f plus.

BALLYNANTY 2012 Grey Gelding by Yeats (IRE) ex Reina Blanca (Darshaan) – Rating 113h 71f Owner: Mrs J Douglas Miller & Ken McGarrity This son of Yeats came to Kinneston from Ireland in August 2018 and having won over hurdles unfortunately picked up an injury that ruled him out for last season. Still only 8 he should be able to progress further as 3m hurdler and it should be noted he is now 31lb below his peak flat rating. Does need to sharpen up his jumping which can be erratic in the early stages of a race, we will continue to work on that and probably school him on race days when the opportunity arises. page 10 HANDICAP HURDLERS

BROADWAY JOE (IRE) 2014 Bay Gelding by Milan ex Greenhall Rambler (IRE) (Anshan) – Rating 102h Owner: Clan Gathering An attractive brother to Benny’s Secret by Milan he is bred to stay very well. He progressed nicely in his three hurdle starts last winter and he should continue to improve in that sphere stepped up in trip on decent ground.

CHRISTMAS IN USA (FR) 2012 Bay Gelding by Shaanmer (IRE) ex Diamond of Diana (FR) (Darshaan) – Rating 99h Owner: Bowen & Nicol He hit a rich vein of form in early 2019 and followed that up with a nice win at Sedgefield in November. He appeared to lose his way after that, I suspect because of running back too quickly after his win and then not being given enough time. He should return to form having had a decent break; handles most ground but must go left handed and seems effective at 2m.

DUBAI DAYS (IRE) 2015 Bay Gelding by Dubai Destination (IRE) ex Comeragh Girl (IRE) (Imperial Ballet) – Rating 107h Owner: Trevor Hemmings – to be sold at Goffs on 15.09.20 He arrived having been 2nd in a Killarney bumper in May 2019 and proved consistent in his four starts for the yard though it was disappointing that he did not win. A step up in trip on some better ground should bring enough improvement for him to win off this mark and it would be nice to think there will be plenty more to come, especially when he goes over fences though we may be wise to rethink his race tactics.

EBONY JEWEL (IRE) 2014 Bay Gelding by Westerner ex Lady Roania (IRE) (Saddlers’ Hall (IRE)) – Rating 126h Owner: Mrs Lynne Maclennan Having been a decent bumper horse Ebony Jewel proved consistent over hurdles improving with each run and winning at Haydock in December proving the best of our novices last season. He took a heavy fall in the Premier Hurdle at Kelso in late February and will have benefitted from a good long break. He seems to be learning to settle in his races and as he matures he should prove more effective over further, handicap company should suit him well in that regard and ideally he can pick up a nice hurdle before he goes chasing. Loves soft ground.

page 11 HANDICAP HURDLERS

KOALA KEEL 2012 Grey Mare by Kirkwall ex Kayf Keel (Kayf Tara) - Rating 98h Owner: Team Kinneston Having been out for a year she had been due to be part of our Perth team for this summer having run well at the track in 2018, it was not to be so we will try to have her ready to run in October. As a 98 rated maiden mare she ought to be able to win some money for the team.

NICEANDEASY (IRE) 2013 Bay Gelding by Kalanisi (IRE) ex High Priestess (IRE) (Priolo (USA)) – Rating 115h Owner: Brian Castle Having taken a while to come to himself last season he put up an excellent effort to finish 2nd at Musselburgh in November though unfortunately injured himself in the process. He will have to sit out this season but has time on his side and being out of training has seen him relax and develop which will do him the world of good as he was always rather stressed and worried in the past.

page 12 HANDICAP HURDLERS

OFF THE HOOK (IRE) 2012 Bay Mare by Getaway (GER) ex Call Her Again (IRE) (Old Vic) - Rating 113h Owner: Mrs I Hodge Only out of the frame on one of her last fourteen starts this gutsy mare was nevertheless a bit disappointing last winter in failing to build on a highly promising novice season. A tough race at Newbury in March 2019 may have left a mark and the handicapper has been slow to give her much leeway. She looked to improve for cheek pieces when runner up on her latest start and after a decent break she should prove competitive this winter.

RYEDALE RACER 2011 Bay Gelding by Indian (IRE) ex Jonty’s Lass (Tamure (IRE)) - Rating 122h Owner: Bissett Racing Stepped up nicely on his stable debut to win well at Hexham last October prior to losing his way. We know what the issue is, and it won’t be easy bringing him back to his best but a good break will certainly have helped and no stone will be left unturned. Can be competitive off this mark when all is right.

TED VEALE (IRE) 2007 Bay Gelding by Revoque (IRE) ex Rose Tanner (IRE) (Roselier (FR)) – Rating 109h Owner: Alexander Family 2013 Cheltenham Festival winner who ran in the best company over hurdles, fences and on the flat winning nearly £300k. As a 13yo age is catching up with him but the handicapper has given him a chance and only beaten 2l when 3rd on his latest start in March. He loves his work and it is a privilege to train him in his twilight years, one more hurrah we hope.

WAKOOL (FR) 2016 Grey Gelding by Motivator ex Symba’s Dream (USA) (Vindication (USA)) – Rating 105h Owner: Turcan, Borwick, Dunning & Fleming Gorgeous well-bred flat horse that we acquired at last year’s Deauville Summer Sale. He did little wrong over hurdles last winter improving with each run and winning a big field handicap at Doncaster in January. Plans then thwarted by the coronavirus but he is bigger and stronger now so should continue to progress this season especially when he steps up in trip.

page 13 NOVICE HURDLERS

BIBLICAL (FR) 2015 Chesnut Gelding by Harbour Watch (IRE) ex Prophecie (FR) () Owner: John J Murray & Mrs Lynne MacLennan Flashy athletic French bred horse who made an excellent debut in a bumper when runner up for previous connections. He was far too free on his first start for our yard and unfortunately, he missed last season due to a subsequent injury. Time off has allowed him to mature and fill his frame, so he ought to be able to fulfil his early potential now he goes hurdling, still only 5yo.

BLAZING PORT (IRE) 2015 Bay Gelding by Yeats (IRE) ex Despute (IRE) (Be My Native (USA)) Owner: SprayClad UK A smart recruit to the yard having won his first bumper well and then finishing runner up with a penalty. As a Yeats brother to two top class staying chasers, he is a potentially top class staying novice hurdler.

CHARM OFFENSIVE (FR) 2014 Bay Filly by Le Triton (USA) ex Go Lison (FR) (Turgeon (USA)) Owner: The Nags to Riches Partnership A lovely big French bred mare by a prolific stallion, the penny dropped late in her debut bumper when she stayed on strongly to finish a close second. She failed to follow that up but a little issue emerged a few weeks later that may well be the explanation, she did plenty of schooling over hurdles in the spring and was very natural so she should be competitive in mares novice hurdles.

COUNTERMAND 2012 Bay Gelding by Authorized (IRE) ex Answered Prayer (Green Desert (USA)) Owner: Richard Wilmot-Smith A winner on the flat who came to Kinneston last winter. Big powerful horse by a good sire for hurdling he just needs to learn to settle, if he does that his jumping should come together and he could make a very decent hurdler.

page 14 NOVICE HURDLERS

ETOILE D’ECOSSE (FR) 2014 Grey Filly by Martaline ex Etoile de Mogador (FR) (Goldneyev (USA)) Owner: Douglas Miller, Coltman, Dunning & Turcan Big strong mare by an excellent stallion out of a mare who is a full sister to a top class horse. She has been very backward and hard to get fit but is working much better now and will hopefully begin to reward her owners’ patience. Ultimately a 3 mile chaser.

FERNHILL LAD (IRE) 2015 Bay Gelding by (IRE) ex Sarahall (IRE) (Saddlers Hall (IRE)) Owner: Coltman, Cundall, Matterson, Stephenson A son of the ultra tough “Arc” winning Dylan Thomas, his dam has produced 3 decent winners already and we bought him at the 2018 Derby Sale. He has shown plenty of ability at home but is yet to reproduce that on the racecourse, he had his excuses and schools well over hurdles so hopefully he can turn the corner this season.

FORTESCUE WOOD (IRE) 2015 Bay Gelding by Westerner ex Primrose Time (Alflora (IRE)) Owner: Bowen & Nicol By one of my favourite sires out of a decent winning mare from a family that has produced many winners. Big, strong, old fashioned chasing type; he was ready to run in the spring for his previous trainer prior to racing being suspended and should come to hand quickly this autumn. May have one run in a bumper prior to going hurdling.

LET THERE BE LOVE 2015 Bay Gelding by Shantou (USA) ex Zolotaya (Kayf Tara) Owner: Brian Castle A smart store horse with a classy pedigree being by Shantou out of a Kayf Tara mare out of a Celtic Cone mare with plenty good winners in every generation, he also came from the 2018 Derby Sale and had been working well prior to going very weak on us last autumn. We turned him away and brought him back very slowly thorough the spring. He responded well to this patient approach and is now working properly with the string and should be ready for a bumper in October prior to going novice hurdling.

page 15 NOVICE HURDLERS

PENNY RIVER 2015 Bay Mare by Kayf Tara ex River Alder (Alderbrook) Owner: Brian Castle A gorgeous daughter of the UK’s best NH Sire out of a very decent racemare whose progeny to date have all won. She proved hard to get fit last winter and was just coming to herself in the spring. She didn’t have long at grass and as a result has come to hand much quicker this time round. Probably one bumper run prior to going hurdling.

SHAKA THE KING (IRE) 2014 Bay Gelding by Yeats (IRE) ex Kissantell (IRE) (Broken Hearted) Owner: SprayClad UK A nicely bred strapping son of Yeats, brother to the high class Rocky Creek amongst others. A fast finishing 3rd on his only start in an Irish point-to-point he has the potential to be very good under rules if we can keep the right side of a few issues. A proper staying chaser in the making.

STEVIE SMITH 2016 Bay Filly by Roderic O’Connor (IRE) ex Poem (Dylan Thomas) Owner: Richard Wilmot-Smith An attractive filly who ran a couple of times on the flat and in a hurdle last year, too weak to be competitive she arrived here in August after a year maturing at the National Stud in Newmarket. Hopefully, the time off will have given her the chance to strengthen up.

UPANDATIT (IRE) 2015 Bay Gelding by Winged Love (IRE) ex Betty Beck (IRE) (Westerner) Owner: Jean Matterson Third in two point-to-points in Ireland prior to joining the yard in December, a free moving active sort, we were waiting for the better ground to give him one run in the spring but it wasn’t to be so we will have one bumper now prior to going hurdling, his Irish form has worked out very well.

page 16 BUMPER HORSES

CENTENIER (FR) 2016 Bay Gelding by Rail Link ex Calling Grace (FR) (General Assembly (USA)) Owner: Mrs Jacqueline Morris By a high class winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe who is producing plenty of jumps winners he is a brother to the winners of no less than 36 races and EU846k. He was in training for the whole of last season and should come to hand quickly this time round.

GINGER MAIL (FR) 2016 Grey Gelding by (IRE) ex Queenly Mail (FR) (Medaaly) Owner: Judy Douglas Miller and Mary Coltman A brother to our highly talented Elvis Mail from a prolific winning family by an outstanding sire. He was in training all last season proving athletic and enthusiastic, he should appear in a bumper late in the autumn.

LEWA HOUSE 2016 Bay Gelding by Yeats (IRE) ex Primrose Time (Alflora (IRE)) Owner: Bissett Racing By a wonderful staying sire out of a decent mare from a prolific winning family, he was in training all last season and should come to hand quite quickly. Only been here a month so we don’t know that much about him, but he has a good attitude and is bred to stay very well.

MARYLINE TRITT (FR) 2016 Bay Filly by Kap Rock (FR) ex Tritone Chick (FR) (Le Triton (USA)) Owner: FOR LEASE FOR HER RACING CAREER By an outstanding young French sire her dam and all her siblings won as 3yo’s in France so this attractive filly should come to hand quickly and jumping will be her forte so we may go straight over hurdles.

page 17 BUMPER HORSES

MEMORS 2015 Bay Mare by ex Mtpockets (IRE) (Deploy) Owner: Anna Harper By a highly progressive stallion that can’t stop producing winners out of a three time winning mare that has already produced a winner. An exceptionally strong, well balanced mare that never knows when to stop and appears to have plenty of ability. Will take time but patience should be rewarded.

NAUTICAL MISS (IRE) 2015 Bay Mare by Imperial Monarch (IRE) ex Yourfinalanswer (IRE) (Supreme Leader) Owner: Mr H W Turcan & Sir Simon Dunning By a son of Galileo that won the out of a Supreme Leader sister to the top class chaser Alberta’s Run. Lovely pedigree and plenty to like about this unassuming mare that arrived her last autumn and had a full season in training, she should appear in a mares bumper before too long.

NED TANNER (IRE) 2016 Bay Gelding by Milan ex Rose Tanner (IRE) (Roselier (FR)) Owner: Hands and Heels A brother to an exceptional racehorse in Ted Veale by one of my favourite stallions in Milan, the dam is by Roselier out of a Crash Course mare so he could not be better bred for the jumping game. He is also correct, strong and powerful, he was in training all last season so should come to hand in time for a run in a bumper before Christmas.

TRAVAIL D’ORFEVRE (FR) 2016 Grey Gelding by Martaline ex Lady Needles (IRE) (Sri Pekan (USA)) Owner: Bowen & Nicol An exceptionally attractive free moving horse was acquired at the Land Rover Sale in June last year, he is by the best sire in France and out of a five-time winning black type mare who has already produced five winners. He was in training all last season and will hopefully make his debut later in the autumn.

MINUIT CIEL 2016 Bay Filly by Midnight Legend ex Gaspaisielle (FR) (Septieme Ciel) Owner: The Nicole Syndicate – 3 x 10% shares remain available.

A rare opportunity to lease a beautifully bred filly, by a superb sire her un-raced dam is a sister to Mr Thriller, Gaspara and the highly progressive Larry among many other winners. She has been in training for a year and works well showing a good attitude.

page 19 POINT TO POINTERS & HUNTER CHASERS

LANDECKER (IRE) 2008 Brown Gelding by Craigsteel ex Winsome Breeze (Glacial Storm) - Rating 112h Owner: Mrs N Hodge & Mrs I Hodge (leased to Kinneston) He won six hurdle races at Kelso and last season switched to pointing, running in Ladies Opens. His season was curtailed but he won his last start by 15l just before lockdown giving Mhairi her first winner. Ideally he will run in all the Ladies Opens this season.

MORE MADNESS (IRE) 2007 Bay Gelding by Dr Massini (IRE) ex Angelic Angel (IRE) (Phardante (FR)) Owner: Jamie Alexander He came back to Kinneston as a fun pointer for Jamie and duly obliged finishing 2nd on his last two starts, it would be great to see him get his head in front again as he hasn’t won since October 2013 – we will do our best though sadly coronavirus prevented him running last season.

RACING PULSE 2009 Bay Gelding by Garuda (IRE) ex Jacks Sister (IRE) (Entitled (IRE)) - Rating 117c Owner: Jamie Alexander He formerly high class horse came to Kinneston in March having lost his form in Ireland and was a revelation winning all three of his starts in 2019 including the Northern Area’s feature point-to-point and feature Hunter Chase. He isn’t straightforward but is very talented and has struck up a great rapport with his new rider. Sadly prevented from running last season due to coronavirus.

page 20 WHERE ARE THEY NOW

We take great pride in doing our utmost to find suitable homes for our horses after they finish their racing careers. I thought you might be interested to know where they are now –

BUFFALO BALLET – is living near Gretna Green where he has become a favourite of the Couper family doing a very full range of activities.

DANCE OF FIRE – is up near Inverness learning to do dressage and again fitting in well with a busy family who adore him.

FLY RORY FLY – has gone to live with team member Becca at Cleish. Becca looked after him here through all his problems and knows exactly how to manage them, hopefully they will have a lot of fun together.

MARLEE MASSIE – went off to Devon to live with Paige Smart who competes nationally with retrained racehorses and should give him a successful second career.

SPIRIT OF KAYF – also went down to Paige in Devon and is now known as Keith. He also has the ability to excel in his second career and is in the right place to do so.
