Impacts at a glance Situation Overview

• Cyclone Amphan hit the coast approximate at 5:00 Affected Population 10 Million PM (BST) on May 20, 2020 with a wind speed of 160km per hour, affecting more than 10 million people in nine coastal districts and has left behind a trail of destruction in the country. • Based on the rapid damage and need assessment findings, BRAC has developed an emergency response plan and the response activities are under progress. • Since May 21, 2020 BRAC is distributing safe drinking water to cyclone affected families in Assashuni, Shyamnagar and Kaligonj upazila of . • BRAC has a plan to support 10,600 badly affected households in 10 namely Shyamnagar, Asashuni, Kaliganj, and Kalaroa upazilas hundreds of tube wells still remain under Satkhira; Koira, Paikgachha, Dacope, Botiaghata and Dumuria submerged in saline water upazilas under and Sarankhola upazila under Bagerhat for restoring their damaged houses and WASH facilities. • BRAC has already allocated a budget of BDT 30 million (USD 0.36 million) for badly affected 6,000 low-income families to repair/restore their damaged houses and WASH facilities with cash grants of BDT 5,000 each. Today BRAC handed over the cash grants among 47 families in urban areas under Satkhira Municipality, and 61 families in Dumuria and Paikgacha upazilas. • Besides, BRAC is also under progress of selecting beneficiaries to provide multi-purpose cash support to 4,600 badly affected households to restore their houses, and WASH facilities through installing tippy taps and hand washing facilities.
