BARRHEAD NEWS barrheadcanrc.ca TO AND FROM THE CONGREGATION This past Thursday was Ascension Day. With the Ascension of Christ, a new reality has burst forth into the universe—a redemption of cosmic proportions! As fully man, He has entered the Holy of Holies, in the highest heavens above every rule and authority. He went to the depths so He might ascend to the highest heavens and spread the light of God’s redemption everywhere and bring us into that glory. We are now seated with him by faith, united by his Spirit. He showers this salvation upon us as a sign of the glory to come (Eph. 1:3–14 and 4:7–10). Indeed Jesus Christ is now present in the Holy of Holies as the anchor of hope for our souls (Heb. 6:19-20). Today marks a full Sunday where we will, the Lord willing, in the morning in addition to commemorating our Saviour’s ascension into heaven also celebrate of the Lord’s Supper and witness the ordination of elders and deacons, while in the afternoon we may witness 8 individuals make public profession of their faith. What a host of reasons for thanksgiving and joy as we reflect upon God’s love and care for us his people in Barrhead! While there are reasons for joy and gladness we know that we also live in a world of sadness. At this time we remember the broader VanLeeuwen family who grieve the loss of Jason deWitt, a nephew and cousin in Carman, MB who lost his life in a fatal motor-vehicle accident late last week. His death leaves an empty place and deep sorrow on the part of his wife and three children and immediate family whom he leaves behind. May our gracious God uphold and sustain all who are suffering in the pain of grief and may He be near to them and give them peace. Recently br. Rick DeVink suffered a broken collar-bone from rolling a quad. Thankfully he and others present were spared greater harm and injury. After undergoing surgery this past Thursday, the expectation is that a full recovery will take 4-6 weeks. May the Lord grant our brother and his wife and family much patience during this time and may the Lord grant healing if that is his will. Others among us face trials and tribulations of various kinds, known or unknown, in terms of health, discord, loneliness, anxiety or spiritual unrest (and the list could go on much longer). May we not fail to remember one another’s needs in thought, word, deed, and in prayer, and may the ascension of Christ assure us all that since Christ is seated and reigning above every power and authority nothing can ever separate us from his love. Have a blessed Lord’s day! CVL

NEERLANDIA NEWS THANKYOU On behalf of the Breukelman family, we would like to thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for our father, George Breukelman. Since his stroke, he is making slow but steady progress. The doctors say in time his health may be fully restored. Most importantly, he has been brought close to our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. The LORD uses circumstances to pull us back to His side. Over the course of time, cards of thoughts and prayers from members have also shown the communion of saints. A simple word or thought was greatly appreciated by them and will be very encouraging for the long road ahead to recovery. We would encourage those who had connections with George to relay those thoughts towards him. George and Maryann Breukelman's mailing address is: 10540 HWY17 South Pollocksville, North Carolina 28573

NEERLANDIA SOUTH FOR AND FROM THE FLOCK Again a week has gone by and we are blessed to be gathered as God’s people to begin another week. We lay our daily labors aside and come to the workshop of the Holy Spirit. May we come rejoicing, knowing our brokenness and giving thanks for the wholeness we have in Jesus Christ. His redeeming work is cause for true heartfelt joy! We are a blessed people. We also wish to express our condolences to the Hoeve family with the death of Elly’s mother. May you be surrounded by the nearness of our Saviour in the time to come. God promises to bless His people with comfort and peace. It feels like we can safely say spring is here! This beautiful weather is a rich gift to trades and farmers alike. Our God is in full control of the weather we receive daily and we thank Him for His goodness to us in this way as well. Today we celebrate the Lord’s Supper together. As we eat and drink in remembrance of Him, may we humbly repent and believe in our faithful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Give that our response may be lives of thanksgiving and praise to His Name. We thank Rev. Veurink for leading us in worship and sacrament this morning and this afternoon Br. Pat Harthoorn for leading a reading service. May we be blessed and edified by the gospel of grace and go on our way rejoicing. RVA

NEERLANDIA NORTH CONGREGATIONAL NEWS Once again today our God gives us a foretaste of eternity. On this day of rest we have a foretaste of the eternal rest that is in store for us. And as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we receive at the table a foretaste of the abundant joy that the Lord has promised to us. May we then be filled with joy and thankfulness today as we look forward to the fullness of these things in eternal glory! We were thankful to receive the news that the surgery performed on Sr. Kathleen Tuininga’s mother was a success and that the doctors were able to remove all the cancer. We give thanks to God for the wonderful way in which he has answered our prayers! Sr. Vandermooren is now undergoing preventative chemotherapy and we pray that these treatments would also have the desired effect and that the Lord would continue to sustain her in this time. This week there are also a couple of birthdays to mention. First of all, our Sr. Alice Kippers will be joining the 65+ club as of tomorrow, May 14 DV. We extend our congratulations to you in advance and pray that our Heavenly Father would continue to bless you going forward as well. It is also good to see that the recovery from surgery is also going well and we once again give thanks to God for such a rich blessing! Then our Br. Peter Aikema hopes to celebrate his birthday, DV, on Tuesday May 15. Congratulations to you as well brother! We are thankful that the Lord has watched over you in the year that has passed and pray that he would continue to be your help and guide going forward as well. We pray that those celebrating this week may have a joyful time with family and friends as they give thanks to God for his rich goodness and care! We also extend our condolences to Br. and Sr. Dan & Jane Van Leeuwen and Br. and Sr. Jeff & Jane Van Leeuwen along their children with the sudden passing of their nephew and cousin, Jason DeWitt in Manitoba. At a time when words are often so insufficient, we pray that the God of all grace would surround you and comfort you all as you come to grips with this tragic event. Our Sr. Maria Peters also learned recently that her father in has been diagnosed with COPD and congestive heart failure. In this difficult time of uncertainty, we pray that our Gracious Father in heaven would surround you with his care, and that you would find in him everything necessary to go forward in faith. May our God grant to us all a blessed day of rest and worship! GeV PREACHING SCHEDULE May 13 AM: Rev. G. Veurink PM: Rev. G. Veurink May 20 AM: Rev. G. Veurink PM: Rev. G. Veurink

WOMEN’S SAVINGS ACTION It is time once again to donate to the Seminary Library via the Women’s Savings Action. Running a library is no small task, books and electronic purchases are extremely costly and the maintenance of an orderly, updated library is on going. This library could not function without the generous donations of women from across . So once again this year they are asking us for our generous support. As of now, we need a representative from North and South. In the meantime, you may make your donations to Y. Van Laar Box 120. There will be a donation box in the foyer for any cash. Cheques should be made out to ‘Women’s Savings Action”. Anyone who would like to become the representative, please call 780-674-3880. Thankyou in advance, YVL
