President’s Report

It’s difficult to know where to start when describing the 2013 season as by all measures it has been very successful.

In 2013 we had over 200 children playing AFL footy and fielded teams in the following age groups: • Auskick (49 players) • U9 – 2 teams • U10 – 2 teams • U11 – 1 team • U12 – 1 team (Division 2) • U13 – 2 teams (Division 1 & 3) • U14 – 1 team (Division 2) • U16 – 2 teams via our Joint Venture with Manly Bombers.

Some of the more notable highlights have been: • Our U12 team won the Premiership in Division 2 • Our U13 teams both made the final series • Our U14 team won the Premiership in Division 2 • Our U16 Manly/Pittwater JV teams both made the finals with the Division 2 team winning the Premiership • Numerous Tigers players from all age groups were chosen to play in the various North Shore rep teams • Christian Loone won the U13 Division 1 GSJ Association Best & Fairest • Zac Youlten won the U13 Division 3 GSJ Association Best & Fairest • Tenzin Tenkyong came third in the U13 Division 3 GSJ Association Best & Fairest • The Pittwater Tigers Club won the GSJ Association Club of the Year for the North Shore

The above highlights the fact that the Tigers have some very good footy talent and an amazing group of coaches, managers and volunteers (I won’t name everybody as there are simply too many wonderful people involved).

In relation to the 2014 season it is worth noting that the GSJ is changing to an U15 comp and an U16/U17 combined comp. This effectively means our U14 team will move up to U15 (previously they would have moved to the U16 comp) and our U16 lads will have another year in juniors in the U16/U17 comp.

In addition the Pittwater Tigers are working towards fielding a team in the newly formed AFL junior girls comp (please contact myself or Peter Francis if you are interested in this initiative).

Being involved in a community based volunteer organisation such as a junior AFL club has plenty of rewards, not the least is seeing our children enjoy playing the sport they love. It is fair to say that the aim of everybody involved with the Pittwater Tigers Junior AFL club is to work towards ensuring our club is family focussed and that the environment is inclusive and welcoming. Our Club is about enjoyment at all levels; be it competitive footy or just having a run around with your mates, we strive to cater for everybody and welcome any input into how as a club we can continue to improve.

From a personal point of view I would like to thank the Tigers Committee, our tireless and patient coaches, our diligent managers and the wonderful families that makeup the Tigers community.

Lastly, I would like to thank everybody involved with the cCub for their behaviour with very few, if any Code of Conduct issues noted this year. The Tigers enjoy a solid reputation in the AFL community and it is something that we can take pride in.

Pittwater Tigers Major Awards

Club Best & Fairest Award

The Pittwater Tigers Club Best & Fairest Award winner for 2013 is Charlie Williams. Charlie captained our Under 14 Division 2 team to a Premiership in 2013 and was also the Under 14’s Best and Fairest winner, following up on his Best and Fairest win in 2012. Charlie has an enviable list of achievements including a total of 120 games for the Tigers over 8 seasons, a member of the Academy team selected to play in the Joss State Trials in Albury in September 2013 and also a member of the North Representative team that finished 5 wins and 1 loss in the regional championships played in July.

Charlie is a worthy winner of this award as he is a tough, skilful player who likes to control the game with big marks and damaging runs off the half back line. A great reader of the play, Charlie is a great leader of the U14’s and gives his all in every game he plays. He is also the consummate team player. Capable of playing any position on the ground brilliantly, Charlie will always play where the team needs him without quarrel or ego. He will sacrifice his game to ensure the team benefits. An excellent all round player and quality young man, Charlie is a great team mate to everyone and someone the boys love to play along side of.

Dean Koch Clubman Award

The Pittwater Tigers Dean Koch Clubman award winner for 2012 is Thomas Vaughan. The Clubman award is given in recognition of someone who displays attributes that reflect well on the Tigers Club and in 2013 Thomas was a valued member of the Grand Final winning Under 14 Division 2 side and also represented the club as a field umpire. Thomas attended every training session for the Under 14’s and was also one of the team leaders playing every game for the U14’s in their winning season.

Thomas is always pleasant and courteous and a pleasure to have around the club as well as in the Under 14 team. He espouses all the attributes of a top Clubman. In his role as field umpire Thomas shows great promise and using his playing knowledge as well as his natural intelligence is always in control of every match he is involved with.

Thanks for all your contributions around the club Thomas and well done on being part of the victorious U14 team.

Chris Hanavan Trophy - Tiger Spirit Award

The Chris Hanavan Trophy – Tigers Spirit Award winner for 2013 is Blake Wilson. Blake has been a Pittwater Tiger player for many, many years with 2013 being his most successful to date, being the full forward in the 2013 Manly/Pittwater U16 Division 2 Premiership winning team, bringing home a swag of goals over the season.

The Tiger Spirit Award is awarded to a player within the club who shows the true meaning of the word ‘spirit’ both on and off the field. Never a ‘flashy’ or selfish footballer, Blake’s ability to read the play, be where he is needed and kick goals is uncanny. Blake simply never gives in, even when getting knocked around continuously on the field, and is always there when needed.

Congratulations to Blake and it is appropriate that he receives the Chris Hanavan Trophy as he is the last remaining Tiger who played with Chris before he was taken from us.

Treasurer’s Report

The financial position of the club remains sound at the end of this season.

Income for the year of $ 41,123 was up from 2012 due to increased registrations and sale of Club clothing. Together these items represent two thirds of the Club’s total income. The canteen was again important to the Club’s finances (17% of income). However, due to split rounds, wash outs and the use of two grounds, this was down from last year. Sponsorship of $3,800 (2010: $3,000) and the pre-Christmas BBQ at Bunnings are other key income items. Interest income of $1,258 (2012: $1597) was received from the Club’s investment account.

Total expenses of $37,726 were higher than 2012 in line with increased player numbers. The increased numbers and the use of two grounds drove increased fees from the AFL, fees for rep teams, supplies and ground management expenses as well as umpire costs. Expenses such as insurance and electricity also continue to increase. The purchase of a new fridge was made during the year and depreciation expense of $1,651 was booked.

The Club made a profit of $3,397 (2010: $4,958) down from last year as a result of the higher expenses.

Registrars Report

2013 was a fantastic year for registrations at the Tigers. Some rigorous recruiting by coaches, parents and kids saw our registrations increase by 23.5% on last year’s intake!

An amazing 94 children participated in our popular pre-season COME AND TRY program run by the AFL (NSW/ACT) in conjunction with the Tigers. 68% of these players registered with the Club for the 2013 season. The program was run this year at Narrabeen Sports High and all the kids really enjoyed playing on this sensational new ground. The end of the Come and Try program coincided with our Jumper Presentation evening and a visit from some of the Swans players at Tigerland which proved to be a fabulous way to kick off the 2013 season.

Auskick numbers increased this year, with 49 players in 2013 (41 players in 2012). Registrations for the Juniors (Under 9s through to Under 16s) were hugely increased with 161 players (129 players in 2013). Overall, we are enjoying increases in registrations every year, with the retention rate of players from year to year rising slightly.

In total the Club's 2013 registrations were 210 players, up from 170 players in 2013, which is an increase of 23.5% on last year! The Club fielded teams from Auskick to U14s as well as our joint venture Under 16s teams with the Manly Bombers.

Pittwater Tigers will continue to use Sporting Pulse’s online registration and payment system and will also still provide face to face registration days in the New Year.

The success of recruitment lies in kids bringing their friends along to the Club to give AFL a go. I don’t think I can recall anyone who has tried AFL not joining, so please spread the word and bring your mates!!

Our School Ambassadors played a great role this year in keeping our local schools informed of programs on offer throughout the year and helping to promote both the Tigers and Junior AFL in our local area. We hope to be well organised early next year so that we can provide Ambassadors with the information they need to keep their schools informed of pre-season and registration details. If you would like to be an AFL Ambassador in your school, please let me know – it’s easy!!

The role of Registrar is busy but rewarding, as you not only work as part of our fantastic Tigers’ committee, you also meet a wonderful range of players and parents. If you are interested in the role and would like to give it a go or just help out, please let me know. See you all next season.

Secretary’s Report

Secretarial responsibilities for the club comprise preparing and distributing committee meeting agendas, taking, preparing and distributing minutes of all Club Committee meetings and tracking “action items” recorded in the minutes. I also maintain the correspondence register on behalf of the committee.

Thanks to my fellow Committee Members who have stood in for me when work commitments prevented me from attending Club meetings. This year’s committee has performed particularly well and I am more than willing to nominate for the position of Secretary for the 2014 season.

2013 Canteen Report

Another year over! It has been a very strange and disjointed year with regards to split rounds and teams using the new grounds plus 3 washed out home games in a row.

On a brighter note there are always people who help me throughout the year and without their help I would not be able to do my job. Sherrie Elliott, Ray & Lynn and of course Alison de Kleuver and Liz Williams for always making sure that we have volunteers on the day.

I would also like to thank (again) Jeff & Julie Robinson for the yummy and now very famous “Julie Rolls”. Thank you also to Trent from Trent’s Gourmet Meats at Mona Vale for his generous donation of meat trays throughout the season and for putting up with my last minute and often unorganised requests for more! So please support our local businesses and Trent and try some of his great meat.

Auskick 2013 Season Report

Our Auskick numbers were up again - we had 49 players this season & of those, 45 were new to the game of AFL. The 2013 season was an on-field success, with all players & their parents developing their footy skills, an understanding of the game, and of the field zones that they will encounter when they move into Under 9s. This year a of our last season & new Auskick players have demonstrated that they are now ready to move up to Under 9s . This provides some indication of the strength and effectiveness of our Auskick program and the confidence that our players have in their footy skills & ability. If all kids return for the 2014 season, we should see about 16 move up to Under 9s.

The highlights of the Auskick season were:

• 27 Tigers played at the SCG. 18 played during the halftime interval of the Swans v. Geelong AFL match and another 9 played during the halftime interval of the Swans v Brisbane AFL match. Congratulations to the players and to the parents that participated at the 2 games, I’m sure the kids and parents got a memory & an experience to remember for a lifetime. • 2 Auskick Gala days, 1 at Forest and we had Swans players & Jed Lamb turn up to help & the other we hosted at Pittwater • Playing games on the new synthetic field at Narrabeen High Sch • Birth of the “Phantoms” AFL9’s team (Auskick dads & friends playing in a 9 a side no contact 40 min AFL game competition on a Monday night at Narrabeen High Sch) • Obstacle course & Kids v parents game. I don’t know who laughed & smiled more the parents or the kids The kids as always loved the opportunity to beat their parents yet again. This was clearly demonstrated by the cheers & smiles they gave with ever goal or point they got over the parents.

No one person can do Auskick alone, I and the kids have been fortunate enough to have Matt Byrne assist me this year. Matt thank you, your knowledge & assistance has been invaluable to me & the players this season. I look forward to your help again in 2014

Also a very special thanks to the awesome Mums and Dads that helped out during training sessions, on game days, joining in our fabulous Parents versus Tigers Auskick “grudge” matches and for assisting with the BBQ & canteen. Because of your help & support you made the experience of learning & playing AFL that much more fun for your child. (And a heck of a lot easier for Matt & I).

Thank You Go the Tige’s!! Nigel Hart & Matt Byrne

Under 9 Black Report 2013

Coach: Kevin Barry Manager: Keiran Einspinner

Season Summary

The U9 Blacks fielded 15 players, comprising 10 newcomers to AFL and 5 who had played just one season but stepped into the leadership role nicely.

Everyone put in at training each week which showed on the field as the boys developed their skills, their ability to combine as a team and always ended with an enthusiastic team song on game day.

We had fantastic depth in the team and by mid-season the boys read the play well and were able to dominate games week in and week out. Their team spirit, their effort and above all their enjoyment has been truly inspirational.

Thanks too to all the parents who gave fantastic support at training and on game day!

Player Profiles Under 9 Black:

Jordan Athis Written on footy club walls throughout the nation is the following...."It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". This could be replaced with a photo of Jordan!

Will Barry Great skills combined with an upper body strength and an elusive blind turn that usually results in a clearing kick.

Blaise Burmeister Blaise has the height and the size for a great forward. When he backs himself, he has the skills that bring results every time. He is an unselfish team player and a pleasure to coach.

Saxon Carr Saxon started the year quietly but was a great ball chaser and fought hard for every possession. I watched Saxon develop a passion for the game as his skills developed over the season.

Charlie Edis Always willing to do whatever the team needed, Charlie is a true sportsman and a team player. He appreciates the technical side of the game and has enjoyed learning the roles of each position. Above all though, kicking a goal was one of the greatest moments of his life and a fantastic achievement.

Oliver Edis Some moments of truly great football marked a big year of learning for Oliver who is playing a year above his age. He stuck to his man like glue when it counted in the back line and no doubt helped defend a bucket load of goals from opposition sides throughout the season.

Max Einspinner Max's great strength is his constant battling, chasing and clearing from the centre. In a word - tenacious. Max listens well at training and follows through on the field. He has a wonderful nature, a great team player - a real pleasure to coach.

Kaleb Georgeson-Smith Kaleb is an exciting player with natural talent around the goals. I think Kaleb would benefit greatly by adding a left foot kick to his repertoire. If Kaleb continues to play AFL, I would expect him to achieve great things. When Kaleb has the footy on the forward line, the crowd rise to their feet!

Matthew Upshon Matthew improved throughout the season and took some clean strong marks at Curl Curl and wanted more. 16

Markus Gerrard Markus is a naturally talented athlete who will be exciting to watch in any code. His safe hands in the back line saved many goals and could change the fate of the game. Markus has a wonderful ability to read the play.

Max Hindman I was thrilled to see a massive transformation in Max in the second half of the season. He took a couple of great marks and showed real commitment. I regret not being there to see Max play in the final game but eagerly await a report.

Daniel Holmes Daniel likes to put his head down and go in hard for the "scrap for the ball" often coming out second best. He took some great marks, kicked a few goals and managed to mix it with the big boys.

Luka Monnock Luka had a fabulous year playing consistently well. He was excellent in the Centres and showed unfailing commitment to chase down the ball, and clear to the forwards. He was always there to back up his team mates. Look for Luka at the Swans Academy in the future!

Beau Nicholas Tough. Strong. Determined. Beau has no hesitation in putting his body on the line! If Beau wasn't at the ground 10mins before ball up I'd be worried as he is simply irreplaceable in the Centre or Ruck Rover. When a player shows so much heart he will go on to great things.

Will Taylor Will probably gave me the greatest sense of achievement this season. Will spent most of the season in the back line at his own request. Then due to a communication mishap, he played full forward, kicked a goal and was best on ground! Will never looked back!.

U9 Gold Report Season 2013

Coach: Josh May Manager: Dave Roberts

First things first – thanks to all the parents this year – all of the kids were a delight to coach and all have great attitudes to AFL and team sport. As I said in my end of year Teamer note, they are a credit to their parents, and it is great to see so many parents giving their children the opportunity to play AFL. Dave and I set out at the start of the year a simple goal - to create a fun and safe environment for the kids where they will enjoy their footy, and hopefully develop as a team throughout the year. There is no doubt that our team were immeasurably better at the end of the year than our first game at Middle Head. And it was paramount to both of us that each player had the same opportunity to participate throughout the season, from quarter to quarter, recognising that each child will be at different stages of physical development – not to mention ages. Our youngest player was 6 at the start of the season and our eldest 9! And I think we achieved this also.

They will learn as they grow through footy that it is the full team performance that wins games – the best 6 players will never win the game for the whole 18. More about each player below – but to a child, there was great development throughout the year, and I hope that translates to excitement and enthusiasm for another season next season.

Finally thanks to the parents for their patience also. In my opinion the modified rules format can lead to a temptation to play negative tactics, which was the only area where we were sometimes outplayed. Whilst this can be frustrating, we were grateful for the support from the parents for our attacking style. The kids don’t need to peak in terms of achievement at 8 years of age! And we will continue with this philosophy. So to the real ferocious tigers – ggrrrrooooowwwwwlll.

Here we go in no order:

Mia Herriot Our little tigress and what prowess around the goals. Mia wouldn’t miss a training or a game for anything, such was her enthusiasm, and next year we’re anticipating many goals when Mia gets her opportunities in the forward lines.

Ian Palmer Ian was one of our “talls” and whilst he was willing and able to play all over the ground, Ian was a tower of strength in the backlines. Ian has a great kick and will go well again next year.

Darcy Armstrong – Well, for the youngest and smallest player in the competition, Darcy made up for height and age with courage and tenacity. Darcy will be standing over those opposition players some time very soon – you have been warned.

Hudson Rose – for our second smallest player, Hudson also stood tall –in fact he asked to be Ruckman from game 1. Even when Hudson worked out the Ruckman was the tallest player on the opposition, it only made him go harder! Hudson lived and breathed AFL throughout the season and improved as much as anyone, and was a well deserved Ferocious Tiger medal winner towards the end of the season.

Indy Rose- I had the pleasure of watching Indy lay the most tackles for Avalon Bulldogs on Saturday mornings before giving his all for the Tigers on Sundays. Indy really improved as an AFL footballer and will do even better next year. Jackson Luke – Jackson was a real star this year and had a real sense of responsibility for his team, which is really admirable. Jackson is strong and reads the ball in the air and around the ground, and will go onto bigger and better things next year.

Max Arnold – Maxy is just a pleasure to coach. He would do everything asked of him, and has a real desire to win the ball. A genuine “in and under” on-baller in the making.

18

Cyan Davis – Don’t be fooled by his quiet demeanour, Cyan wants the ball and Cyan will get the ball. He was the Rock of Gibraltar in the back lines and looks like a classic half back flanker/back pocket with an ability to create attack from defence.

Patrick Trevaskis – Patrick had a great year in all parts of the field. He has the ability to kick 10 in a game up forward but also to play in the middle or the backlines. Pat has the scent of the game- he knows where to find the ball and has great natural ability.

Milo May – Credit must go to Milo for his effort, both in distance covered on the park, and desire to bring his team mates into the game with handball and passing. Milo mainly played in the forward lines (as was Dave’s strict instruction). Kicked our entire score in one match, and had to be moved into defence under the mercy rule after kicking 8 goals in the first half of another match. In fact, Dave bet Milo a Mars bar to kick 9 that day, so it was Dave who moved him to the back lines for the second half.

Cooper Todd – Cooper did really well this year in an age group above his and in a game he had never played. Cooper played mainly in the forward lines but also in the middle and showed signs that he is not far off that defining moment when he really takes the game on. Well done this year Cooper.

Jack Roberts – With great natural ability, Jack just needed to work out that he could actually play the game. Fortunately this only took a couple of games! After taking a towering mark at Centre Half Back, in one of our early games, he went on to be our leading marker for the rest of the year. Jack also took on the role of “enforcer” of fair play at Centre Half back and lifted his team mates around him.

Beau Valentine - Beau is very talented and already quite a versatile AFL footballer. Beau played in the backline, midfield and up forward, depending on where we needed him to play. And wherever he found himself, Beau adapted to the position and did really well. Beau loves his footy and will continue to progress next year.

Gabriel Smith – I may be proven wrong but Gabriel just looks like a classic ruckman, straight out of the mould – Justin Madden, Greg Dear, ! Some would say “laconic”, I say great temperament, and talent also. Hope you keep going champ.

Whiley Toll – Whiley played against a bunch of kids a year older than he this year, but it looked the other way around. Whiley has a real eye for goals, and with Buddy Franklin destined for his beloved GWS, we might just find it hard to take him out of the forward lines next year. In fact, Buddy will come out of his 10 year contract just in time to make room for Whiley in the GWS salary cap.

Charlie Hildebrand – Charlie joined late in the season, and had a terrific impact on the team. Charlie loves the game and his mum Vanessa told me he slept with his AFL ball after our last game! Charlie looks like a natural on- baller, not unlike Paul Couch or Daniel Hannebury.

James Buchanan – James was a star of the team this year, and played consistently well in every game. James has a real grip on a really difficult game for kids of this age – playing at 360 degrees as AFL is played. Great year.

Daniel Loney – Daniel was a key cog in the engine room this year, but also played well when he went into the backlines. Daniel is a terrific team player with considerable talent, and provided the team with some valuable movement through the midflield.

Thanks to Kevin and Kieran also from the U9 Blacks. We started the year hoping for 1 team and ended up with 2 (and enough kids for at least 3 teams), and between Dave and I, and Kevin and Kieran, we managed to coordinate training and games.

Dave and I have put up our hands to coach again next year and are already looking forward to it. And we hope to see everyone next year – the more the merrier.

U10 Black 2013 Coach’s Report

Coaches: Duncan Archibald, Col Carty Team Manager: Bee Carty

Season Summary The Blacks had a tremendous season with all the boys really improving their football skills and their teamwork. With a healthy combination of some boys new to AFL and returning players, the group came together really well, and played some fantastic games. The training sessions have also been excellent with almost all the boys at training each week. A big thank you to our Manager, Bee who made the Coaches’ jobs that much easier, and all the parents who have helped with game day and the training sessions.

Player Profiles:

Callum Archibald Callum had a consistent 2013. Not afraid to take a big pack mark, Callum was comfortable playing forward, back or in the midfield. He loved bringing others into the game too, linking up with teammates by hand or foot. Congratulations as well for playing in the North Shore Representative side.

Luke Stonier Our youngest player had a great year. Luke is still the zip zip king and we all marveled at him running out of the midfield with a bunch of opposition kids chasing him. He has added another dimension to his game this year, providing a lot of run out of the backline. By the end of the year, we were all really impressed with Luke’s ability to bring others into the game by dishing out some great handballs. Well done Luke.

Luke Harvey Luke was a revelation. He was one of the new boys at the start of the year, and his development has been fantastic. He has really impressed with his run, his desire to get the ball and battle hard. Luke was comfortable in any position, and he was instrumental in us staying competitive in many games. He was also super diligent on the training track and really keen to learn. Congratulations on a great year, and we look forward to watching your development over the next few seasons.

Carlton Rakic Carlton is tough at the ball, and doesn’t take a backward step. Whenever the ball came near him, you knew that Carlton would be competitive and give the opposition a fierce battle to get the ball off him. Carlton provided some great drive out of the midfield and the backline. Well done Carlton.

Joel Carty Without doubt, Joel is the smoothest mover in our team. He has a natural ability to read the play and position himself in the right spot. A super left kick, he added another dimension to his game this year, bringing others into the game, either by dishing off some great handballs, or firing off a low bullet pass. His work in the midfield was really solid, again with the ability to read and intercept opposition handballs. He also did some great work in the forward line, and we have many memories of Joel at centre half forward, wheeling onto his left foot and slotting a great goal. Joel won the GSJ AFL’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Well done Joel, and we look forward to seeing you run around next year.

Harrison Finlay Harry was the heart and soul of our team. Harry loves his footy and playing with his mates. Whilst last year Harry did his best work up forward, this year, he added another dimension -playing some great games in defense. The last game of the season against Willoughby, Harry had ball deep in our backline – he ran with it, kicked a booming kick along the wing, and it resulted in one of the great, end-to-end team goals. Harry also started developing nicely in the midfield this year. Congratulations on your 50 game milestone, and keep it up Harry.

20

Tom Partington If Harry Finlay was the life and soul of our team, Tom Partington was his right hand man. Tom had a great season making the most of his abilities. Fierce near the ball, Tom loved sharing the ball around, bringing others into the game. Extra dependable in any position, Tom is a much liked and valued member of our side. Well done Tom.

Dylan Catterall Dylan had a great year in 2013. Super reliable in a number of positions, Dylan saved some of his best work for the forward line this year. We have many fond memories of Dylan kicking some super goals for us, especially early in the season. He loves his footy, and is a great team man. Well done Dylan on making some big improvements this year.

Oliver Luke Oliver was a solid contributor all year. Oliver has the rare ability to read the play well, and know where to position himself. Oliver trained really well, and tried his hardest at all times. He is a very much liked member of the side and we look forward to seeing him run around next year with the Tigers.

Adam Goring Adam was one of the new boys this year, and fitted in superbly. Super competitive, Adam has picked up the basic skills very easily, and by the end of the year, is one of the side’s best kicks. Adam was another player who you knew would try his hardest whenever the ball came in his direction. Well done on a great first year, and we look forward to watching your development over the next few years.

Aiden Whereat Aiden was the last player to join our crew this year, coming over from playing mostly soccer previously. Put simply, Aiden is like a tiger near the ball. It was evident from the first game, what he didn’t know about basic footy technique, Aiden more than made up for with a fierce desire to compete and get the ball moving forward. Aiden was a great team player, and had a fantastic first year introduction to AFL. Nicely played Aiden. Look forward to seeing you out with the Tigers next year.

Aiden O’Malley Aiden always tries 100%. He is fast and he is competitive, and you knew that whenever the ball was near Aiden that he wouldn’t give up without trying his hardest. A terrific trainer, Aiden has made great progress this year, and should be congratulated his fantastic team spirit.

Kalan Murphy We were all very impressed with Kalan’s progress over the year. Kalan has always been competitive near the ball and always tries 100 percent. He has added some tremendous run and carry this year to his game. We have also been thrilled with the developments that Kalan has made with his kicking as well. Congratulations on a great year, and look forward to see him run around with the Tigers next year.

Antwone Cortes Antwone is another player with super silky skills. Blessed with a beautiful kick, Anwone was our leading goal scorer this year. He loved playing in the forward line alongside Joel Carty and we all watched in amazement at how balanced Antwone is when he weaves through a pack of opposition defenders to kick another great goal. Later in the year Antwone showed a lot of determination and fight when playing out of the backline. Well done Antwone on a great first year.

U10 Tigers Gold, End of Season Report 2013 Coach: Peter Francis Team Managers: Danielle and Matt Butler

This has definitely been the best season of footy ever!

Some of the highlights have been, the amazing weather, the teams great culture, seeing so many incredible goals being kicked by all our players, our gutsy second and third efforts, our exciting running handball style, our fabulous and gorgeous Lillah and Malia running rings around our opponents, awards to our heroic Ferocious Tigers Tom, Jasper and Ben, GSJ Outstanding Achievement award to our talented Brock, Reps honors to Jasper who kicked City North’s first 4 goals at the incredible Gala Day tournament, huge improvements in our amazing Rooky players Jamie, Tom, Malia, Cameron and Callum, strong leadership shown by our fantastic established players Oliver, Valentine, Nathan, Jarrod, and Bailey.

Some of the many memories that will stay with me are Malia and Cameron’s classy goals, Tom Butler’s uncompromising contested marks, Ben’s unrelenting pressure, Lillah busting the opposition lines, Brock’s overhead marks, Jasper’s long range goals and the 50th games celebrations. Our team can only succeed with the exceptional support of the kind-spirited parents, cheering good play, helping out with lifts, Goal Umpiring, Kerchers bringing oranges, Deb’s beautiful photo collage, Gerry warming up the players and of coarse the magnificent organization, hard work, and genuine care for us all from Danielle and Matt Butler; we are blessed be managed by a couple that understand the spirit of kids sport and we’re blessed to share our Sundays with you.

Throughout the season the spectators and coaching group have been treated to an amazing display of talented, team- first football, great sportsmanpersonship and the overall development of a beautiful group of young Australians, we are extremely proud of you all.

Thanks to all for an amazing season, have a terrific summer and we’ll see you all return bigger, stronger and faster Tigers in 2014!

Player Profile Bailey Pike No.5, 23 games Bailey is a willing player and very reliable. He has improved every game, especially his long and accurate kicks and strong chest marks, Bailey creates plenty of turn-overs and generously handballs off to his teammates, and he is always a pleasure to coach.

Ben Francis No.10, 68 Games The toughest of our midfielders, Ben’s loves the heavy traffic and he won a Ferocious Tiger award for is hard ball wins through second and third efforts. He brings his teammates into the game using running handball and the very successful give-and-get or 1-2s. Ben worked hard this season on his ball-drop to master the drop punt, great effort!

Brock Dailey No 2, 51 Games Due to Brock’s teamwork, talent and Tiger Spirit, he was our winner of the Greater Sydney Juniors, Outstanding Achievement Award. Brock is tough and competitive; he is usually first to the contest and takes an amazing overhead mark. He has dominated the half backline and frustrated every team we faced with his intercepts and turnovers. Brock is skilled and is happy playing in every position.

Callum Brodke No 18, 9games Callum is gifted with speed, athleticism and his incredibly quick reactions. He loves open play and, as an outside player, is most at home on the flanks and the wings where his speed gives greatest advantage. Callum is learning the game very quickly for a first-season player. His first AFL goal at Manly caused the opposition players to do a Mexican Wave as it flew over just out of reach, it was spectacular!

Cameron Youell No11, 12 Games Cameron is a player with loads of energy. He is in his first year and every time he is given a task he does it to his best ability. Cam loves to play in the forwards and takes a great mark. He can unload a mighty drop punt like the huge goal he kicked against the Lions on the last game of the season. 22

James Manning No16, 12 Games Another new recruit and a brilliant talent unearthed, he has speed to burn. Jamie brings plenty of energy to his footy and is extremely determined when the ball is close; he loves to play forwards and loves to sneak a round-the-corner kick between the big sticks for a goal.

Jarrod Bridges, No 46, 47 Games Our powerful full forward took plenty of strong marks in the goal square and landed a heap of goals. Jarrod is equally at home as a midfielder playing Ruckman or breaking through the pack and setting up his forwards. He loves to train, loves to play and loves to lead his teammates in the club song. Jarrod is up to 47 games and there’s no doubt he’ll be back next year to gain that milestone.

Jasper Crouch No 14, 70Games Jasper is a star in all positions, he is an exciting game-changer, his overhead marks and long straight kicks are ahead of this age group. The thing I love most of Jasper’s many talents is that he is a team-first player, there were many times when he could have kicked his own goals, yet he passed off to teammates to allow them to share in the fun. Jas won a Ferocious Tiger award for teamwork and was our City North Rep player.

Lillah Francis No 12, 59 Games Lillah has had an amazing season as a senior player and a mentor to the new and established players. She is incredible across all positions, reads the play well and is very tough at the contest. She is exceptional at winning the hard ball, busting the opposition line and looking down field for teammates with that killer long handball or a long penetrating kick. Lil’s a team- first player, loves to kick a goal and is always exciting to watch.

Malia Cleveland No15, 15 games This was Malia’s first year of footy and after the first few games, her confidence quickly grew and this really showed in her hard ball-wins and her smart use of the footy, passing off to teammates. Malia is naturally very fast and athletic with quick reflexes; she has worked hard to improve marking the ball, kicks and handballs, she is as brave and as tough as a tiger and has a great future in AFL.

Nathan Francis No 8, 68 Games Awesome in any position, he loves heavy traffic through the midfield and loves a left footed goal when he gets up forward. Nathan is skilled at creating turnovers, smothers, tackles and winning his own footy, best of all is his run-and-carry and sharing the ball with his teammates.

Oliver Thomas No 17, 62 Games Oli is fantastic as a Ruckman or a key-position player, he works very hard through the midfield and when he goes forward, he loves taking overhead marks to kick a goal or three. Oliver has racked up over 60 games for the Tigers and has been a big improver this year.

Thomas Butler No 13, 74 Games Tom is an awesome player and a particularly strong backman. He is as brave as they come, his strong contested marks breaking opposition teams’ hopes as he stops their momentum and swings it our way, Tom has a fantastic long straight kick, passing off to team mates in the clear. Although we count on him as a back, Tom is happy through the mids and loves kicking for goal. He won a Ferocious Tiger Award for courage at the contest.

Thomas Kercher No 19, 15 Games Another great player in his rooky year! Tom has worked hard to develop a terrific kicking technique and in one season, kicks longer and straighter than most under 10s. He has good clean hands and is a great tackler. Tom listens to instructions, tries his hardest and as a result his improvement has been incredible.

Valentine Delerue No3, 50 games Valentine is a fierce and determined defender. When the ump blows his whistle and the dust settles, he is usually at the bottom and last to get up with the ball. Valentine is athletic, agile and quick; he has increased his involvement and team work with every game and is another big improver.

Tigers Under 11’s (2013)

Coach: Jason Partington Team Manager: Neil Webster

We had a fantastic mix of new players as well as players re–registering from the Under 10’s this year. Our season felt very similar to the previous one. We started the year a little rough, as we found our feet, and felt the wrath of teams such as Manly who made us pay for our late start.

In the early part of the season we got beaten by many teams, but started to gather pace, and become more competitive by the middle part of the season. Teams that were belting us early, now were only winning by 1-2 goals.

The back end of the season, we started winning games in succession against teams that had previously beaten us by huge margins. Our team members started to gel and were strategically winning the ball out of the centre, which was the key to our success.

We also had players that were developing quickly which also added to the team success. The skills and playing ability of the players dramatically increased, and we had a very good attendance at regular training sessions which increased the skill level.

Many thanks must go to parents… Roy, Gerald, Jason, Andrew and Alison who assisted in training sessions during the week (plus many more, when they could). Special mention to Marty Boffy who assisted me with some coaching duties, management and general humour throughout game / training times.

Our team were not only for their ‘never give up’ attitudes and their attack at the ball, but also for their sportsmanship. On two occasions, coaches from other teams spoke with our team about their excellent attitude and behaviour on and off the field.

Thanks must go to Neil Webster who managed the team and communication throughout the season. Could not have done it without him!

I look forward to seeing many of the Under 11’s return for the under 12’s next season.

Player Profile:

Jacob Ashby: Continuing his dominance on the forward line, Jacob is now well known for his snaps from impossible angles and still managing to get them through the middle sticks for full points. A player with natural ability and flair.

Sam Partington: Is regarded as one of the players who is tenacious at his attack on the ball, and ability to run with it out of the centre. Once again, a great season for Sam who is one of our strongest players and has played out of the centre all season.

Cain Hillier: Cain is someone that just does not stop!. He is the epitomy of the ‘ferocious tiger’. He has a passion for AFL which he passes onto all of his team mates. A great team player.

Keenen Henery: Keenan has come on leaps and bounds this season to be our strongest backline player. His kicking and ability to run with the ball out of defence regularly gets the tigers crowd applauding and cheering.

William Field: William has once again developed some core skills this season and has been very effective in hassling opposition players consistently. He is a valued and important member of the team, and follows the coaches instructions always.

Bill Sellwood: Bill has continued his love for the backline and defence, and loves to tag good players. He is there every week at training, and is continuing to become a better AFL player every season.

24

Daniel Nemstev: Daniel is one of our most enthusiastic players on and off the field. I am looking forward to seeing Daniel next season, as he shows that he can do amazing things at training, and we are looking forward to seeing those skills and confidence develop further onto a game situation in Under 12’s.

Thomas Slaney : Thomas is our great all rounder, he can play every part of the field, and every position. Wherever we have the greatest need, we can always rely upon Thomas to fill the need. His skills are developing quickly, and will be a great player in 2014.

Noah Vumbacca: Noah was one of our best players this season. He is never afraid to back himself and run with the ball. He was at the epicentre of most of our attacking game, and was responsible for getting the ball out of the centre and into the forward lines.

Will Timmis: It was Wills first season in AFL, and he really did a great job this year adapting to the game. He is a great player to have in either defence or in the centre half forward line. Will has developed his AFL footy skills incredibly fast this season.

Conor Webster: Conor is one of our best Team Players. He was most consistent out at training every week, but he will be known for his efforts best in the forward line. Conor kicked some really important goals for us this season.

Frazer Geelan : It was Frazer’s first season I n AFL this year, and he burst onto the scene! His tackling ability and speed around the ball were incredible. Frazer played around the centre, but could play any position on the field.

Byron O’Mahoney: Byron was definitely one of our strongest players in the team. His AFL skills are very well developed and he is amazing at bringing the team together when they were down. Never one to give up, Byron shows excellent leadership qualities and sportsmanship always.

Andrew Field: Andrew is without doubt the most improved player of the season. It was a pleasure to see him blossom as a player this year. He ended up playing key roles in the team and contributing to the end result every week.

Kyle Cutugno: Kyle continued his love for the Backline, in particular the Full Back position. He has one of the biggest kicks in the team, and was very consistent in not only stopping many opposition goals, but also consistently kicking out of defence.

Kye Creed: Kye was a fantastic forward for us this year. He continued with his reputation as the ‘goal machine’. Kye took some of the greatest marks of the season, but then backed it up with magnificent goals.

Jack Rowland: It was Jacks first season at AFL this year, and he was a pleasure to have as part of the team. It was great to see his skills develop at training, which we could also start to see at the game on weekends.

Blake Peterson: Blake was a first season AFL Tiger this year. I would go as far as saying that Blake is the best Ruck out of all teams we encountered this year. His efforts on the field were astonishing. He never ever stopped running, and was influential in the Tigers getting possessions and running out of defence.

Jake Boffy: Jake joined us mid season, and he is incredibly passionate about AFL. Jake is a great all rounder and can play defence and forward lines well. Jake kicked some incredible goals for us this year, and we look forward to his participation for an entire season in 2014. Go West Coast!

A special mention to Phillip (Kyle’s brother), who also helped the team this year. He assisted me at coaching, but we also put him on to play the gala day, and he kicked a magnificent goal, and stopped many in defence. Thanks Phillip!

It was another fantastic season for the Tigers!

Under 12 Tigers 2013

Coach: John Dignam Team Managers: Matt Wiles

The U12 had a very successful year, winning a premiership with an outstanding display of teamwork particularly in the finals campaign.

The team was formed from two U11 teams. The kids came together and stepped up to the challenge achieving on field success and enjoying the game as a group.

They were the underdogs in the grand final and through a combination of mature decision-making; determination; team work and true guts prevailed against a team that forced us to play our best to win the day.

A great bunch of kids who together achieved success that was clearly remarkable. Well done boys, you worked hard and deserved it.

Mitchell Butler: Mitchell was one of our players who never gave up. Mitchell was always in the contest, ran until the end of the game and his second efforts were inspirational. He always looked for space and gave his team mates options which lead to many scoring opportunities. Mitchell was also a representative player.

Mark Dignam: Started the year in the forward line but moved into the ruck. Mark worked hard in the ruck contests in the finals. He was a reliable target for kicks out of the back line and provided forward momentum with his big accurate kicks. A valuable team player who reads the game well.

Mitchell Hoskins: Mitchell found his position in the back line. His spirited defense was impressive often putting his body on the line to protect our team’s position. Mitchell worked hard on his kicking and marking which showed great improvement that was on display during our finals campaign.

Tasman Hale: Tasman played in both the ruck and in our forward line. In the forward line he was able to use his height to take some great marks and his skills and speed to find space to kick lots of goals. Tasman worked hard through the season to improve his skills and played in a representative team for the club. Tasman enjoyed his footy and the smile that was often on his face showed it.

Will Hall: Will has worked hard during the year on his footy skills. As a result he has made a valuable contribution to the team throughout the season. In the preliminary final against Hornsby despite being injured, he saved three certain goals. He saved another three goals in the grand final doing an excellent job of reading the play and stepping up for the team.

Marc Jercher: Marc played in our back line and worked hard on his footy skills, which improved greatly over the year. His ferocious defense saved many goals and contributed well to the team’s effort. Under pressure Marc always gave his all. This made him a valuable player in and a ferocious Tiger.

Ziggy Lambe: Ziggy is always friendly and he is really appreciated by his teammates. His ability to fearlessly dive into a crowded contest and come out with the ball is a brilliant. Ziggy never gives up and was often targeted by our opposition. Despite this he continued to run hard, play clean and try his best. Truly a ferocious tiger.

Charlie Lewis: Charlie is a good player who always gave 100% for the team. He was always early to training and worked hard to improve his game throughout the season. Charlie tried hard in each contest and looked for ways to move the ball forward. This kept the scoreboard ticking over. Charlie was a respected contributor to the team.

Josh Menzies: Josh continued to develop his skills in his second year of AFL. Josh was always willing to make a contribution and put in for the benefit of the team. His skills were useful in the forward line where he was able to convert the team’s efforts into points. Very little phases him and he is valued member of a successful team.

26

Tom Pattinson: Tom played in both the back and forward line. A powerful kicker of the ball he was always happy to play in his part and contribute to the team’s success. Tom worked hard at training and on the field and always wanted to give his best. A good team player who was appreciated by his teammates.

Joel Perin: Joel was continually willing to give 100% and constantly looked for ways to contribute and back up his fellow players. When playing in the forward line this inevitably ended in a scoring opportunity that Joel was able to take advantage of. Joel trained hard and never complained, a player with a big heart.

Zac Phillips: Zac played on the ball and was often tasked with tagging a key opposition player. Zac often took more than his fair share of hits. In the finals he ran until it hurt and then ran some more. His efforts ensured that our team was competitive and ultimately successful. A highly effective player.

Jonathon Simmons: Only played three games before injury cut his season short. Hope to see him next year.

Jonathan Vaughan: Jonny is a very skillful player who reads the game well. Through his good marking and kicking skills he provided the team with an extremely reliable line of defense. He regularly turned defense into attack throughout the season. He always gave 100% and often backed up for the more senior teams as well as participating in the Swans academy and representative footy.

Arthur Wang: Arthur has the ability to take sensational marks and make great kicks at critical points in the game. His focus and determination in the last two finals had an impact on the rest of the team and lifted everyone’s performance. Arthur enjoys a laugh and had a good season.

Samuel Wang: Samuel is a talented player who had a good season. Samuel worked hard for us in the finals campaign where he focused on his kicking and marking. This commitment paid dividends for both Samuel and the whole team. Always with a smile on his face, he clearly enjoys his footy.

Joel Wiles: Joel was a terrific contributor to our team through the entire season. He played on the ball and was always willing to put in the extra effort across the whole field. A skillful player who played representative footy, was part of the Swans academy and was key to our game plan every week. Joel is always friendly and worked hard to develop his skills throughout the season. His ferocious efforts on the field each week earned the respect of all his teammates.

Under 13 Black Report 2013 Coaching Staff: Tim Loone, Craig Smith, Runners: Mick Trevaskis, Andrew Doyle, Jackson Pola-Smith Team Manager: Cathy Doyle Intrepid Reporter: Gav Rutzou

Season Summary The Under 13 Div 1s have had a very good season. The high of last year’s Grand Final was quickly put to rest after a first up match against the competition benchmark Westbrook, who gave us a football lesson in the first match!! We were fortunate however to play enough quality football to get us through to the finals but the skill and size gap was evident against the top two sides.

We again graded the players so that we had two competitive teams. This provided us with the luxury of the unrestricted Div 1 players playing with the Div 3s when possible and also having some of the Div 3 boys experience the step up in competitiveness and skill levels in the Div 1s. However, our team numbers were at a bare minimum throughout the season, leaving us without the opportunity of having enough players to rotate on the bench. This means we will have to recruit well in the off season to provide us with enough numbers for next season.

Again with the very capable coaching from Craig, the boys benefitted from his knowledge and expertise of the game. Additionally the improvement of the boys doing the Swans Academy was evident; training up to three times a week really does make a massive difference in your skills and understanding of the game. Throughout the season we have been encouraging the boys to improve their skills and enjoy this great game, and I think we have achieved that aim. The boys have had some close matches, won some games and lost some that they probably should have won. As we keep stressing footy is all about 4 quarters!! Throughout it all they have maintained a positive and healthy attitude and enjoyed their football and I have enjoyed coaching them. What more could you ask for. I hope they have enjoyed the season as much as Craig and I have had in coaching them.

Making the finals and then the preliminary final this season was terrific and the desire and passion displayed by the boys was admirable. When the boys fired no team was safe and they showed us without a shadow of a doubt that they can play 4 quarters of consistent football; we just need to do it on a regular basis and it leaves us with a good starting point for next season. I am extremely proud of the boys and the in which they conducted themselves throughout the season. The preliminary final was also a great tribute to the team, down four goals going into the last quarter the boys were asked to leave nothing on the ground and they responded in true Tiger spirit. To kick four goals to one and to have a chance to kick the winning goal in the dying seconds of the match was memorable, just didn’t quite get there but a fantastic effort all round. The response to the challenge laid down to them was amazing and I and the Willoughby coach paid tribute to the boys fighting spirit after the game, they did themselves proud and as a coach I could not have been prouder of them.

A special thanks to Cathy for her fantastic organisational skills and statistics, every detail was captured. Again Craig thank you very much for your insights into this wonderful game of AFL and your coaching tips and advice. To Mick and Doyley and Jacko, thank you for your assistance throughout the season and translating my rantings into some form of clear instruction for the players; Gavin thanks very much for your enlightening and insightful pen picks and to all of the parents who helped out in the canteen, on the barbeque and ground duties, the boys appreciated all of your efforts. See you all in what promises to be a bigger and exciting season 2014.

Ethan Elliot – had his season cut short by a fractured arm – unfair, but not unexpected. This kid is a great defender, no one likes playing on him, even at training. Has street fighter potential – remain friends with him. AFL equivalent – Dale Morris

Ethan Jenkins - Improved as the season unfolded, becoming an excellent rebounding defender. A good team man - will be much improved for the run. AFL equivalent –

James Gray – a welcome addition to this year’s team – came in underdone knowledge-wise but made up for it with enthusiasm. AFL equivalent – Alan Christianson

28

James McCoy – one of the blonde-haired movie star-good looks gang, James was another first year player who made a solid contribution. Played in a variety of roles and chimed in with some much needed goals late in the season. AFL equivalent – Clinton Jones

Jack Tye – part of the permanent-forward brigade this year, Jack has kicked the clutch goals when needed, including goal of the year contender on the run against Baulkham Hills early in the season. AFL equivalent – LRT

Zac Youlten – the Tigers own Duracell Bunny had another entertaining season. One of the most yelled names from the bench, His Royal Zacness still finds ways to get deep into the pocket for the miraculous goal attempt – his success rate is still high – AFL equivalent – Jamie Elliot

Lennox Whittaker – The Rock had an injury interrupted season, but upon his return made the deep defensive zone his own. Friendly and personable off the field, The Rock is modified the moment he crosses the line – leaving opposition forwards wishing they played some other sport – not Aussie Rules. Polite, but firm – very firm. AFL equivalent – Brian Lake c2008.

Mason Rutzou – girls can take this one home to meet mother – no probs there and this season continued his development as a utility player being seriously irritating to opposition playmakers. AFL equivalent – Brent Macaffer

Hunter Pola-Smith – the youngest colt out of the Pola-Smith stable has once again proved his value to the team. Playing two years above his age group ‘H’ has used his low centre of gravity to defy defenders, consistently producing quality footy. AFL equivalent – Jake King

Tom Trevaskis – ‘Hollywood’ is as good at footy as he is handsome and well groomed. A generous mid-season offer from a team sponsor of a cash payment in exchange for a shorter haircut was emphatically rejected. Ovens Valley League equivalent – Mick Trevaskis

Maccoy Henery - Another standout performer week in week out, this player is consistent and reliable. Often the ball seems to leave his area as if it is covered with repellent. Opposition forwards hated him. AFL equivalent – Tom Lonergan

Harry Vaughan– Cool as a cucumber, Harry is the bloke you can rely on in a scrap. Sure hands, excellent kick – another with the movie star good looks – the world will be his oyster. AFL equivalent – A beardless

Logan Pola-Smith – another to suffer from injury throughout the season Logan’s contributions were nonetheless noteworthy. A consistent clearance winner who always seems to have plenty of time. AFL equivalent –

Xavier Trevaskis – The ‘X-factor’ was at work again during the 2013 season. A good runner, strong overhead mark and consistent ball winner, Xav made the pursuit of the team Golden Fist Award his primary goal and was the easy winner. Why take a mark when you can punch? AFL equivalent –

Kyle Martin – bloodnut extraordinare - goal of the year against Westbrook late in the season. Kyle is an excellent athletic footballer and a really good bloke into the bargain. Very good on his feet or fighting over the scraps on the ground, he more often than not beats his opponents. A long and accurate kick and a vital part of the team. AFL equivalent – Gary Rohan

Marcus Doyle – hard but fair sums this bloke up. Never plays a bad game gives 100% everytime and distinguished himself in one game in particular against Baulkham Hills when he was targeted unfairly but kept his mind on the game and won his position comfortably. AFL equivalent – Boomer Harvey (again)

Christian Loone – the Loone-atic had another standout season. Often appearing to have brought his own footy to matches, he is an excellent overhead mark and this year improved his kicking to match his other skills. Christian is inspired by Gilbert and Sullivan musicals and dreams of one day meeting Justin Beiber. AFL equivalent – Nic Nat.

29

Coach Tim Loone – an inspired coach drawing upon the football knowledge gleaned from generations of two-headed Tasmanians. This early football experience when combined with the athleticism of post- war Dutch immigrants lost many miles from any main roads has produced a style of leadership that defies explanation. AFL equivalent – Rocket Eade

Assistant Coach – Craig Smith – the enigma. Not quite a flag this year but a very creditable effort for our team. Many thanks to Craig for his inspired leadership again the year – not to mention bringing two of our best players to training. AFL equivalent – Craig Smith

U13 div 3 Coach’s Reflection 2013

OH WE'RE FROM TIGERLAND WITH FIGHTING FURY !!......

This snippet from the Club Song accurately sums up the attitude of the playing group this year. A knock about group of mates last year who finished bottom with one win decided to become a much tighter bunch of Smiling Assassins that put the rest of the comp on notice, finishing 3rd with 7 wins from 11 games. We also had 8 first year players this year who very quickly became a part of the furniture & impressed with their team ethic & eagerness to learn the great Australian game.

The following young blokes have been a pleasure to coach this year....

Stuey Beyleveldt (15) - There is no substitute for experience. When a calm clinical finish was required up forward Stuey stood up & backed himself in when others may have melted. As always an integral part of the leadership group. ( 100 games milestone )

Oly Feris (11) - What a pleasure to coach. Oly battled his way through injury & was often not 100 % pain free in the 9 games he played. That all went out the window when he crossed the white line & went into battle. Courage is heavily recognised at the Tigers.

Daemo Georgeson (53 ) -Uncompromising & relentless in the centres , deceptively quick & took a huge step in understanding the finer points this year

Josh Hawkins (29) - A career defining season for the Defensive Rock. Stepped into the leadership group with great gusto & provided a wonderful presence to build the backline around. The consummate clubman saved us countless times when faced in the last line by hairy scenarios against 2 or 3 opposition forwards. Took Ferocious Tiger honours whilst standing up against a blitzkrieg from the Dockers in round 7.

Alexander Hemp (3 ) - Has shown the rest what can be achieved by sticking to a task & holding firm with some fine footy on the wing this year.

Liam Knights (6) - A genuine utility player with a chameleon type ability to be a dangerous small forward one minute & then on request float down back & defend his guts out through clenched teeth. Embarrassed much larger opposition forwards frequently.

Lucas Kohn (24) - Has had a real break through season this year & has given his all to many varied roles . Whether asked to shore up the backline , go into the Ruck or play a Hard Man role for the team Lucas responded with a focussed rugged performance. None more so than his game changing Ferocious Tiger award winning effort against the Mosman toffs in the final round. (50 games milestone )

Jacob Macri (42) - Some blokes are born with Guts & Flair all in one. Lost count how many times we relied on him to do something special to get us over the line. Became an accomplished sweeper across half back in a stand out first season of footy. Watching him back himself running & bouncing the footy out of defence was both exhilarating & giving heart failure to the coaching staff all at once. Was the catalyst behind the Manly victory in a Ferocious Tiger winning effort.

Tre Macri (56 ) - Brought his fine array of League skills with him in what was a fine first year of footy. Not afraid to put his body on the line whilst patrolling the half back line or creating opportunities up forward. Able to run & carry the ball through very heavy traffic to set up scoring chances with his explosive speed.

Tata Phanitpol (5 )- Grew in stature as the season wore on getting more & more accustomed to the nuances of the greatest game. Notably took some fine marks & never shirked an issue while giving away size to many opposition wingman.

31

Jack Phillips (21) - When asked to play key position roles in the Ruck & at Centre Half Forward as a first year player, responded with an assured whatever it takes attitude. His performance against Canada Bay in round 6 was outstanding & showed all in attendance what is to come next season.

J.R. (Jack Reed) ( 13) - Grows a foot taller when he puts on the Tiger jumper. Always has his head over the ball no matter what size the opposition

Keyo Rhodes (14) - Speed , agility, & controlled aggression are the pillars of his game & showed how in under one season he could fight his way into an important role changing through the centres. A very worthy Ferocious Tiger Medal winner against Canada Bay (round 16 )when the hard work & the open ears at training all came together in an inspiring performance.

Otto Schultz (16 ) - I love watching Otto play his footy. Amazing strength & determination, a great footy brain , a really hard trainer, & genuine respect for the yellow & black jumper. The finest all round !st year performance bar none.

Levi Stevenson (23) - Some outstanding Ruck performances this year ( none better than against Manly in the historic win at Weldon ) Never stops contesting. Never stops running . A true grit player.

Tenzin Tenkyong (57) -What a class act. Hard to believe this was his first year of footy. Destined to be a Tiger great no doubt. Will be keeping him well out of the sights of div 1 selectors at next seasons grading match !!!

Angus Williams (10 ) -Inspiring stuff this year, lead from the front & set standards at training that were integral to the teams upward spiral. ( 100 games milestone )

Thank You to Marcus Doyle (7 games ) Ethan Elliott ( 5 games before injury ) Jack Tye ( 5 games) & Zac Youlten (5 games ) for your marvellous service humbly helping out our team in true Tiger Spirit this season.

Thank You to the amazingly talented Deb & the incredibly calming in a crisis Tom who have to return to the fold next year re unfinished business (A FLAG !! )

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to umpire , score, rev up, cheer & commiserate at the right times.

Finally it was great to feel part of the fantastic Tigers Spirit generated by everyone (young & old) around the club.

See you next year

Coach Grant

Pittwater Tigers U14 Team Report for the 2013 Season.

The U14 Tigers had an excellent year winning 14 of 15 games including the Grand Final. It was a testament to the boys’ commitment to themselves, the team and the club that the team was successful. All 23 players contributed throughout the year and they were focussed and disciplined at training and during games. They were a very good group of boys to coach.

The team included nine players who played in the U11 Grand Final loss in 2010.This year nine new players were welcomed to the team. They played well as a team and improved as the year went on. They settled into positions later in the year and were happy to play where they were put on the field. They all knew they had a particular job to do to contribute to playing as a successful team.

The year started with a convincing win over Newtown Wests which was the beginning of a rivalry throughout the year. The teams played each other five times with the only loss to the Tigers inflicted by Newtown Wests. They were the opponent in the two finals in which the Tigers were victorious.

Two fantastic wins were against St Ives. One took place at Middle Head Oval where the boys held on for a thrilling nine point win. The other was at Acron Oval the week after the loss to Newtown/Wests. The boys responded well to the defeat and all played an outstanding four quarters and kept St Ives goalless after quarter time. The team won by 39 points.

There were some notable milestones with Charlie and Jackie G playing their 100th games and Kenyon, Ethan, Ellis, Aaron and Jesse playing their 50th games. Ellis was outstanding in the forward line and topped the league goal kicking with 36. Joe and Tom H were awarded Ferocious Tiger awards for the way they attacked the footy.

I would like to acknowledge the contribution of Matt and Col McPhee who did the majority of the boundary and goal umpiring respectively for the year. Sean, Ian and Daryl helped by filling in when Matt or Col were not available.

I would also like to acknowledge the support to myself and the team of Col Daley as runner for most of the year and Simon as assistant coach and runner for a number of games. Simon made some astute decisions during games and ably filled in for me when I could not get to training. In particular, on behalf of everyone, I would like to recognise and thank Glenn for his outstanding management of the team ensuring everything was in order officially to get the team on the field.

The team was well supported by all the parents, family and friends throughout the year. The support in the two finals was absolutely fantastic and helped the boys achieve their premiership.

Peter Vaughan – September 2013

UNDER 16 REPORT

Coach U16 Div 2 – Trent Burton Coach U16 Div 4 – Tony Gilbert

For a number of years now Pittwater Tigers and Manly Bombers have formed a joint venture squad in the U16 age group and the 2013 season has been the most successful to date.

In 2013 the JV fielded teams in Division 2 and Division 4 and both teams made it into the finals series. Unfortunately the Division 4 team were knocked out in the semi-final however the Division 2 team progressed through to the grand final and after a torrid affair they came home with the flag.

Officially the JV had 3 Pittwater Tigers registered players in 2013 (Blake Wilson, Lochie Francis and Dakoa Davidson) however the squad also contained numerous ex Pittwater lads who transferred to Manly when the Tigers could not field an U14 team some years ago.

Congratulations to the U16 squad and particularly the Pittwater Tigers lads and we wish them luck for the 2014 season.

Appendix A: Code of Conduct

Junior Australian Football Clubs

Today’s parents have an important role in the delivery and support of sporting activities for their own and other children. With it comes a clear responsibility to act in a constructive and encouraging manner at all times.

Players

“Play by the rules and within the ‘spirit of the game’”

§ Play for the ‘fun of it’ and not just to please parents, coaches and teachers. § Play by the rules and within the ‘spirit of the game’. Shake hands with your opponent after the game. § Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately fouling or provoking an opportunity and throwing equipment is neither acceptable nor permitted in any sport. § Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will you. § Be a good sport. Admire all good passages of play whether they be by your team or the other team. § Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player. § Co-operate with the umpires, your coach, team mates and opponents. Without them there would be no game.

Parents, Caregivers and Spectators

“Remember children play sport for their enjoyment not yours”

§ Focus upon the child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This assists the child in setting realistic goals related to their ability by reducing the emphasis on winning. § Encourage children to always participate according to the rules. § Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game. § Remember children learn best by example. § Applaud good play by all teams. § Encourage children to participate, do not force them. § Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. § Respect official’s decisions and teach children to do likewise. § Show appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them your child could not participate. § If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question the official’s judgement and honesty in public. Remember that most officials give their time and effort for your child’s involvement. § Consumption of alcohol is inappropriate at all junior games. § When umpires receive a small amount for out-of-pocket expenses, don’t adopt a ‘you are paid not to make mistakes’ attitude, we all do.

38

Administration & Officials

“Ensure that equal opportunity for participation in sports is made available to all children”

Ensure that equal opportunity for participation in sports is made available to all children, regardless of ability, size, shape, sex, age, disability or ethnic origin.

§ Ensure that rules, equipment, length of games and training schedules take into consideration the age, ability and maturity level of participating children. § Ensure that adequate supervision is provided by qualified and competent coaches and officials capable of developing appropriate sports behaviour and skill technique. § Remember that children participate for enjoyment and play down the importance of rewards. § Provide clinics aimed at improving the standards of coaching and officiating, with an emphasis on appropriate behaviour and skill technique. § Ensure that parents, coaches, sponsors, physicians and participants understand their responsibility regarding fair play. § Modify rules and regulations to match the skill level of children and their needs. § Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents. § Publicly encourage rule changes which will reinforce the principles of participants for fun and enjoyment. § Ensure that your behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sporting behaviour. § Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed of sound officiating principles and the principles of growth and development of children.
