WESTERN COLLEGIATE Opening Face-Off HOCKEY ASSOCIATION • Top Three and Four-of-Ten: For the fourth-straight week, the top three teams - and four of 10 overall - in the national opinion polls are women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) programs. Wisconsin (the unanimous No. 1), No. 2 Minnesota and No. 3 • Founded 1999 • Minnesota State Univ., Mankato at Edina Minnesota Duluth hold the top three spots in both the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls, while North Dakota holds steady at No. 9. A fifth league team, Bemidji State, is receiving votes in the USCHO.com polls. 7700 France Avenue South, Suite 360C • The WCHA is tied with ECAC Hockey for the most teams in the top-10 of the national rankings. Edina, MN 55435 • Wisconsin is tied for second nationally with a .958 winning percentage (11-0-1), while the Badgers and Minnesota (11-1-0) are 952-818-8869 tied for the second-most wins in the NCAA. At 7-2-3 overall and 6-2-2-1 in WCHA play, Minnesota Duluth is off to its best start since the 2010-11 season (9-3-0 and 7-3-0). MEMBER TEAMS • The Kids are Alright: Three of the country's top-10 highest-scoring freshman classes skate in the WCHA. Wisconsin's rookie corps is tied Bemidji State University for third with 28 points (9g-19a), while North Dakota's freshman class is tied for eighth with 24 (11g-13a) and Ohio State's newcomers University of Minnesota rank 10th with 23 (9g-14a). University of Minnesota Duluth • St. Cloud State's Janine Alder leads all NCAA rookie goaltenders with a .939 save percentage and 1.84 goals-against average. Minnesota State University, Mankato • Excellence On the Ice and In the Classroom: WCHA programs continue to excel in all facets of the college experience, as five schools University of North Dakota had a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 90-or-above in the latest set of data released by the NCAA. North Dakota drew within one on a Halli Krzyzaniak goal midway through the third period, but Rooney closed the door. The Bulldogs again jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Sunday's series finale, with Katherine McGovern (first period) and Sidney Morin (second period) each scoring. This time, however, the Fighting Hawks were able to complete the rally, as Amy Menke scored in the second stanza and Charly Dahlquist tallied a clutch, game-tying marker with just 29 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime period, freshman Ryleigh Houston - who assisted on the two UND goals in regulation - buried the shootout winner. Rooney finished the contest with 30 saves, while North Dakota's Lexie Shaw made 20 stops - including a combined 12 in the third period and overtime.

Three freshmen scored goals in Ohio State's 3-0 win in Friday's series opener, while the Buckeyes' third-straight shutout tied a program record originally set between Feb. 24 and March 2, 2001. Crystal Sorem's first collegiate goal, at the 3:35 mark of the second period, proved to be the game-winner. Fellow rookies Samantha Bouley and Jincy Dunne (empty-net) also scored, while goaltender Kassidy Sauve made 20 saves. St. Cloud State bounced back in a big way in Saturday's series finale, equaling its best offensive output of the season to salvage a series split, 4-1. Four Huskies found the back of the net and nine tallied a point, while freshman goaltender Janine Alder made 23 saves. Freshman Kayla Friesen opened the scoring for SCSU at the 9:40 mark of the first period, Caroline Markstrom and Alyssa Erickson also scored, and Julia Tylke added an empty-net score. In a neat moment for the Buckeyes, the Dunne sisters connected for the first time when freshman Jincy recorded the primary assist on Jessica's first goal of the season.
