Four Past Midnight Stephen King Click here if your download doesn"t start automatically Four Past Midnight Stephen King Four Past Midnight Stephen King The Bram Stoker Prize-winner for Best Fiction Collection—four chilling novellas from Stephen King that will “grab you and not let go” (The Washington Post). “Stephen King is a master storyteller, and you will never forget these stories,” raves the Seattle Times about Four Past Midnight. This collection, guaranteed to keep readers awake long after bedtime, features an introduction and prefatory notes to each novella by the author. One Past Midnight: “The Langoliers” takes a red-eye flight from LA to Boston into a most unfriendly sky. Only eleven passengers survive, but landing in an eerily empty world makes them wish they hadn’t. Something’s waiting for them, you see. Two Past Midnight: “Secret Window, Secret Garden” enters the suddenly strange life of writer Mort Rainey, recently divorced, depressed, and alone on the shore of Tashmore Lake. Alone, that is, until a figure named John Shooter arrives, pointing an accusing finger. Three Past Midnight: “The Library Policeman” is set in Junction City, Iowa, an unlikely place for evil to be hiding. But for small businessman Sam Peebles, who thinks he may be losing his mind, another enemy is hiding there as well—the truth. If he can find it in time, he might stand a chance. Four Past Midnight: “The Sun Dog,” a menacing black dog, appears in every Polaroid picture that fifteen- year-old Kevin Delevan takes with his new camera, beckoning him to the supernatural.

Everything Goes Back to the Beginning: Television Adaptation & Remaking

Everything Goes Back to the Beginning: television adaptation & remaking Nordic noir Abstract: As television drama undergoes a renaissance across Europe and the US, this article focuses on remakes of ‘Nordic noir’ crime serials. The genre has its origins in contemporary literary fiction, and became a cinema cause célèbre with the Swedish adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium novels, and the controversial US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. While adaptation scholars have long discredited comparative approaches based on the source/target text binary organised along value-judgement lines, in terms of television remakes, the opposite is fast becoming the case; comparisons between different versions of the same narrative becomes playful and almost vital aspect of contemporary adaptation. While some theorists have argued that remakes often attempt to efface previous versions, in television, the opposite can be true. In examining the remakes of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Forbrydelsen (The Killing), Broen/Bron (The Bridge & The Tunnel) and Broadchurch (Gracepoint), this article proposes that a new type of ‘synchronous’ or ‘active’ adaptation invites some audiences to engage in a far more playful exchange of textual moments, augmented and overseen by social media, and that television remakes are now reflecting this. Back to the Beginning. 1. Contributor’s Details: Richard Berger is Associate Professor of Media and Education, at the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP), Bournemouth University, UK. Richard is editor of the Media Education Research Journal (MERJ) and has written widely on adaptation and has presented at many European and US Conferences. Keywords: television, adaptation, active, remake, Nordic noir.

    Broadchurch Breaks Prove Popular

Broadchurch Breaks Prove Popular Ahead of the highly anticipated return of Broadchurch this evening (27th February 2017), leading self-catering holiday company cottages.com predicts a surge of bookings to the region by holidaymakers inspired by the locations seen in the show. Simon Norton at cottages.com said: “Broadchurch has become one of the biggest events in the television calendar and has had a clear influence on where people decide to go on holiday in the UK. Over the period the second series aired in 2015, bookings to Dorset were up 64% against the monthly average. What’s more, almost a third (31%) of the breaks booked to Bridport that year, where the show is filmed, were booked whilst the show was on our screens. This evident uplift leads us to believe that the third and final series will have just as big an influence on breaks to the county.” For more inspiration and to book your Dorset break, visit www.cottages.com or call 0345 498 6900. Sea Drift – West Bay, nr. Bridport, Dorset Property reference: 29953 Situated in West Bay, where Broadchurch is set, this holiday apartment is perfect for those looking for a relaxing break. INTRODUCTION "If in past summers Hollywood seemed to surrender its creative soul to the making of sequels, prequels, spinoffs, remakes and franchise films based on comic books, television series or video games, take a deep breath and prepare for the summer of 2002."1 With these words, the New York Times' Rick Lyman dubbed this past summer "the summer of the spinoff."2 Although it is most apparent in the movie theater, mass media art of all types in the United States is becoming increasingly derivative.

Davis Department of Humanities, Classics, and Comparative Literature, BYU Master of Arts The goal of my thesis is to analyze physical and moral survival in three novels from King’s oeuvre. Scholars have attributed survival in King’s universe to factors such as innocence, imaginative capacity, and career choice. Although their arguments are convincing, I believe that physical and moral survival ultimately depends on a character’s knowledge of the dark side of human nature and an understanding of moral agency.
