The cows belong to Gundala Lakshmaiah, a native of Kasurajupalli of Neredugummu mandal in Nalgonda. They came to the village on Sunday evening and started grazing at the farm.

The tragic incident also exposed the drought condition prevailing in areas under Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal ayacut. With no water releases for the last four years, farmers are forced to shift to ID crops. Jowar and maize are water-sensitive plants which require regular wetting.
