ROLEX TESTIMONEE STÉFANOS TSITSIPÁS PRODUCES MASTERFUL DISPLAY TO CLINCH MAIDEN ROLEX MONTE-CARLO MASTERS TITLE

Monte-Carlo, Monaco, Monday, 19 April 2021 – Rolex Testimonee Stéfanos Tsitsipás has won his maiden Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters title, the first ATP Masters 1000 event of his career, at the historic Monte-Carlo Country Club.

Having produced some truly captivating in the previous rounds, the 22-year- old dominated the final, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to confirm his status as one of the game’s premier talents.

Tsitsipás joins an elite list of champions in Monte-Carlo, including fellow Testimonee and tennis legend Björn Borg, who won there three times in his career (1977, 1979, 1980), while he becomes the first Greek national to claim the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters title. His win comes 15 years after Rolex began its association as Official Timekeeper of this prestigious event, one that is renowned for its style and elegance on and off the court.

Playing at the tournament for just the third time, Tsitsipás began the week as the number four seed, with an opportunity to continue the fine form he has found since the beginning of the season. Having already reached the semi-final of this year’s Australian Open and ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, and now playing on his favoured surface, a win in Monte-Carlo would afford Tsitsipás his first title of the season.

Following a blistering start to his week, which saw him fail to drop a single set in the lead up to the championship match, the young Greek showcased his elite talent in continuing that trend on Sunday. Wrapping up his victory in just 71 minutes, and dropping just four points behind his first serve, he claimed the second biggest win of his career, only after his 2019 Nitto ATP Finals crown, with precision and determination.

Following his win, Tsitsipás, said:

“I knew that he was going to be a very difficult opponent to face. There were a lot of nerves coming into that match. We both deserved to be in the final. We put on an amazing fight and an amazing show. I would consider it as the best week of my life so far.”
