The Location

The historic village of Chawton, famous for its links to Jane Austen, sits at the top of the Meon Valley, close to the market town of Alton. There is a pub, church, tea rooms as well as the Jane Austen House Museum. Winchester is a short drive away.

The A31 links to the A3 and on to the national motorway network (M3 near Odiham) and the A32 heads to the south coast and the M27. There are regular train services to London Waterloo from nearby Alton and Basingstoke.

Catchment schools are Chawton Primary School in the village and Amery Hill Secondary School, Eggar's Comprehensive, Alton Convent and the Sixth Form College in Alton.

Independent schools include Highfield, Twyford, Churcher's College, Bedales, St Swithun's and Winchester College.

From the Chawton roundabout (Junction of A31 and A32) take the village exit. Carry on into the village passing Jane Austen’s house on your left. The road straightens and the entrance to Prowtings will be seen on your left at the end of the low brick and flint wall.
