A LASTING GIFT FOR GIRLS’ EDUCATION

MELBOURNE GIRLS GRAMMAR

Melbourne Girls Grammar has an outstanding history of providing girls with an education that equips them to thrive in their many life contexts. Underpinning this history is a collective power of philanthropic support that has created generations of Women of Action.

Melbourne Girls Grammar is an innovative, contemporary and independent school which has delivered exceptional education for girls and young women since 1893.

Estate planning is an opportunity to reflect upon the fond memories, relationships and causes which are important to you. A gift through a Will is a considered and deeply personal action which reflects your personal beliefs and life values.

After you have made provisions for your family and loved ones, there are a number of ways that you can leave a lasting gift for girls’ education at Melbourne Girls Grammar.

Irene Mavis Kinsman (Moffat, 1932) Irene attended Melbourne Girls Grammar between 1927 and 1932. After leaving school in Year 10, Irene worked as a secretary in the Psychology Department at the University of Melbourne where she spent most of her working life. Irene died in 2006 leaving the bulk of her estate to be held in trust for charitable purposes. To this day, Melbourne Girls Grammar students continue to benefit from the enhanced learning experiences made possible through the generosity of the Kinsman Bequest. In making her bequest, Irene stated in her Will that her gift in perpetuity is “In recognition of the value I placed on my six years at school”.

Throughout the School’s history, bequests have made a significant impact to the development of the School’s built environment and have enabled a variety of scholarships, assisting generations of students. In 2010, a generous bequest from the estate of Old Grammarian, Georgina Caldwell (1942), enabled the School to re-develop the Junior Years facilities at Morris Hall, creating exceptional learning spaces for girls.

By making a bequest to Melbourne Girls Grammar you can create a legacy which can have a lasting impact on girls’ education for many generations to come.

By making a provision in your Will to Melbourne Girls Grammar, you give a gift that makes a difference beyond your lifetime. Leaving a bequest helps to ensure the School’s success is secure for future generations of girls.

Doris, Edna & Kathleen Curwen-Walker Memorial Fund Doris Sala (Curwen-Walker, 1915), Kathleen Curwen-Walker (1917, pictured), and sister Edna Curwen-Walker (1915) attended Melbourne Girls Grammar during the First World War. Both Doris and Kathleen made generous bequests to provide essential opportunities for girls’ education. Through her Will, Kathleen left the residuary of her estate to establish the Doris, Edna & Kathleen Curwen-Walker Memorial Fund, which to this day provides support for scholarships and extracurricular activities at Melbourne Girls Grammar. The profound generosity of the Curwen-Walker sisters reminds us of the courage, resilience and compassion demonstrated by generations of women who enjoyed their life of learning at Melbourne Girls Grammar.
