Either Canada or the United States can unilaterally terminate the Columbia River Treaty any time after September 16, 2024, provided written notice is filed at least 10 years in advance. In December of last year, the USA State Department indicated it was ready to begin negotiations, and Canada is in the process of responding. Both British Columbia and the United States are considering options to determine whether or not to give notice. This ability to terminate the Treaty, and the changing flood control provisions that will occur post-2024 whether the Treaty is terminated or not, have prompted both countries to get this process underway. Over the last few years, the Province has conducted an extensive review process to get input from as many stakeholders as possible, in preparation for sitting down at the table. PHOTO CREDIT: MOE LYONS CREDIT: PHOTO 2017 after a year and a half battle with cancer. A true fighter, she didn’t quit until her body was no longer able to house her spirit. Teth, formerly Margee Bruyere and before that Margaret Thomasett, moved to Winlaw with her husband Chris Bruyere from California during the Vietnam War era in 1971 to the ‘farm’ that she passed on to her son Yarrow. As a loving woman she had many friends who she stood by and supported regardless of their dilemma. As the rock that she was, nothing could faze her and woe to the person who stood in her way. Margee was a hippy chick who bought a ‘64, cherry red Corvette by way of go-go dancing in Los Angeles. Her love of dance continued, in her Slo- can Valley dance and drumming groups she often out-shone women half her age. Teth’s energy level was phenomenal, she’d kick ass working all day long but come 4:20 it was time to let her hair down and enjoy life with whoever was near. Teth loved to travel. Hawaii is one of her favourite places, Cuba was another more recent favourite. After a fantastic two-week trip there plans were to go next time for two months but her illness took over. Teth’s spirituality allowed her to be fearless, respectful and non-judgmental. Taress Alexis and Marilyn James proudly display Not Extinct in front of the Vallican Whole Community Centre.
