& the South Coast

Dartmoor is an upland area in southern Devon and is a popular family friendly destination. The moor and surrounding land has been protected by National Park status since 1951. Dartmoor National Park covers 954 km². The granite which forms the uplands dates from the Carboniferous Period of geological history. The majority of the prehistoric remains on Dartmoor date back to the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age. Numerous prehistoric menhirs (usually referred to locally as standing stones or longstones), stone circles, kistvaens, cairns and stone rows are to be found on the moor. The South Devon coast is varied and forever changing with the seasons. With dramatic cliffs and rocky coastlines, family resorts, beach front cafes and amusements, secluded coves, water sports and foot paths, history and wildlife the shoreline offers something for everyone. Best way to explore the South Devon coast is on foot via the South West Coast Path. This path is England’s longest waymarked footpath and runs for 630 miles from Minehead, Somerset to Poole Harbour, Dorset.
