The Grammar School was founded and endowed by Mr. Pickering, of London, in 1600; it was closed about five years, but was re-opened in October, 1870, and the schoolhouse thoroughly repaired. The vicarage, in the incumbency of the Rev. Arthur Charles Pittar, B.A., is valued at £30 per annum, and is in the patronage of the trustees of Thomas Parr, Esq. The church is a handsome edifice, dedicated to St. John, consisting of nave, chancel, north aisle, and tower sur­ mounted by a spire. The Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists have places of worship here. There is a National School for children of both sexes. A small chapel-of-ease to the Mother Church of Tarvin, in the Early English style, was erected here in 1835. The Rev. Gwillim Thomas is the curate-in-charge. The living is a perpetual curacy, valued at £135 per annum, with residence, in the incumbency of the Rev. William Ellwood, and the patronage of trustees. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, was founded by Sir Thomas Moulston, in 1627, who also left funds for the endowment of a school and other charitable purposes. An Amateur Dramatic Club has recently been formed here. There is a National School for children of both sexes.
