MINUTES OF THE SIXTH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE APOSTOLIC HOLINESS CHURCH, OF PENNSYLVANIA, Inc.

MARCH 11, 1919. 10 A. M.

Rev. H. A. Saneholtz presided and called to order the first business session of the Sixth Annual Convention in The Apostolic Holiness Church, 4311 N. 18th street, Philadelphia, on the above date and hour. Readifig of the minutes of the 1918 convention was dispensed with upon proper motion duly adopted and instead printed copies were placed in the hands of the delegates. The pleasure of the convention was expressed in the designa- tion of the first five rows of seat sas the conference bar. Looking toward the expedition of business the convention har- moniously and unanimously conferred upon the presiding officer the authority to appoint all committees. The time for the holding of the annual election of officers was fixed for Friday afternoon. State Superintendent, Brother H. A. Saneholtz, presented his annual report as follows, which was upon motion accepted and ordered spread upon the minutes: The Committee on 1918 Minutes, consisting of Brothers D. A. King, J. L. Sutton and W. J. Crider, reported having attended to the duty assigned them and the bill was ordered paid. Upon motion the report was accepted and the committee discharged. The convention decided that the minutes of the 1919 conven- tion should be published and distributed on motion properly made, put and carried. In discussing the method to be pursued to cover the cost of printing the minutes as aforesaid, a motion prevailed that we adopt the plan of previous years, viz: that preachers and delegates order stated numbers of copies for their churches at the rate of ten (10) cents per copy and that four (400) hundred copies be printed. The courtesy of the convention was extended to the wives of ministers by inviting them to a place in the conference bar. 4 Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna.

Following are the persons appointed by the chair on the Reso- lutions Committee: D. A. King, John Orkney, G. W. Hems. Hours for the open business sessions were fixed as follows: From 9 o'clock A. M. to 12 o'clock noon. By proper parliamentary procedure Thursday afternoon was fixed as the time for the ordination services. Brother Albee, a member of the Philadelphia Church, was granted the privilege to conduct a book stall during the conventiofl for the sale of Holiness literature. Adojurned. CARRIE A. MARcH 11, 1919. 2 P. M. The second session was called to order by Rev. Sancholtz, who called upon Rev. Sutton to lead in prayer. Following the roll. Rev. Shellor from the Nazarene Church, and Rev. Frederick from the Free Methodist Church, were introduced and by motion, granted seats in the conference bar. Minutes of the first session were read and adopted. •Committee were appointed by the chair as follows: On Minutes—Carrie A. Yoder, Anna Mae Orkney, D. A. King. • Auditing—Fred Maypse, W. E. Straub, W. J Crider. The Committee on Resolutions reported as fiyllows: Since we as a Church believe in a democratic form of govern- ment, i. e., that each individual member should have the privilege of voting according to conviction, be it therefore Resolved, Tha.t this convention recommend to the next General Assembly that any clause in our manual relating to Nominating Committee he stricken from the rules. Upon proper motion the question was put and the convention recorded itself in the adoption of the resolution. A claim presented to the Council by a member of the Board of Trustees in the sum of $8.38 for car fare while attending the 1918 convention, presented to the Council by a member of the Board of Trustees, was laid before the convention. After careful thought the following motion prevailed: Inas- much as it would establish a precedent, which is believed to be wrong, the claim is disallowed. Rev. Mace, Evangelist from the Holiness Christian Church, was introduced and granted a seat in the conference bar. The following preachers and delegates reported: Rev. J. L. Sutton. Fred Mapes, delegate. Rev. J. II. Gardner. Thomas Gardner, delegate. Rev. R. W. Ives. C. R. Wolfe, delegate. Rev. J. L. Sutton was granted privilege to leave the conference bar whenever necessary. MARCH 12, 1919, A. A. M.

The third session was called to order by H. A. Saneholtz, chair- man, who led in prayer. Carrie A. Yoder having been called home, the Conference elected Rev. John Orkney secretary pro tempore. Following roll call the minutes of the previous session were read and accepted. An offering, sanctioned by the Council, was lifted for Sister Yoder. The Committee on Resolutions reported as follows: Whereas, A branch of the "Tongues" movement has applied the word Apostolic to their deceived sect and thereby our Church is often considered as being connected with them, causing much prejudice, therefore be it Resolved, That this convention recommend to the next Gen- eral Convention that the name be changed to International Wes- leyan 1-loliness Church. The following preachers and delegates reported: Brother Henry Myers, delegate; Sister Young, delegate; Rev. Bessie Hatcher, Lydia Palmer, Rev. Crider. Sister Young was excused from further attendance at this con- vention. The Conference adjourned until 2 :30 P. M. JOHN ORKNEY, Secretary pro tern.

MARCH 12, 1919. 3 :10 P. M.

After calling the fourth session to order, Rev. Saneholtz, pre- siding, called upon Rev. G. S. Owen, who led in prayer. Roll -call was followed by the reading of the minutes which were approved.. The Committee on Resolutions reported We advim all our pastors to forward their missionary money to the State Treasurer of Missionary Board, who shall receipt for the same and forward it to the General Missionary Treasurer. The foregoing recommendation was adopted by the Conference upon proper motion. The following preachers and delegates reported: Rev. Joseph B. Diehl. John C. Hem, delegate. Rev. John Orkney. Carolyn Hunter, delegate. Rev. T. L. Wieand, of Allentown, Pa., was introduced and by vote of the convention was granted a seat in the conference bar. Reports were then given by Rev. The fourth session was called to order by H. A. Saneholtz. Following prayer by Rev. W. J. Crider the minutes of the previous session were read and adopted. fi. M. Harding, succeeding Fred Mapes as delegate, was named as a member of the Auditing Committee to take the place of Fred Mapes, upon said committee. Preachers and delegates reported as follows: Mrs. Jacob Young, Rev. H. A. Saneholtz, Rev. W. B. Neff, Rev. R. W. Ives, Rev. D. A. King, Mrs. Folora Moser, delegate, Sister Fleming, Adelena Bhrent, Rev. R. 0. Parry. The secretary reported for Rev. John S. Hankins, Rev. Daniel Dubendorf, Rev. C. E. Shanon, J. B. Hendel, J. E. Wolf. Thomas Gardner was permitted to leave the session. The chairman of the Camp Meeting Committee reported and upon motion duly seconded the same was accepted. Following the report of the Treasurer of the Camp Meeting Committee it was moved and seconded that this convention ratify the action of the State Council in purchasing the Beulah Park Camp grounds. Time was devoted to a full and free discussion of the motion. at the conclusion of which the motion was adopted. On motion the time was extended. Adjourned. JOHN ORKNEY, Secretary pro tern.

The fifth session was called to order by Superintendent Rev. H. A. Saneholtz. Roll call and reading of minutes were dispensed with. R. M. Harding presented the following resolution: Realizing the open door which the acquirement of Beulah Park affords us, there are requisites which necessarily confront us, that is, of the proper management of the same. With all due respect to our State Council, we feel that they as a body are inadequate for the upliuildirig and maintenance of Beulah Park, for one reason 8 Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna. that their cares are now legion, but mainly because at best the membership in State Council is transitory, therefore, it is unwise for this Conference to make it possible for the management of such an important work to be thrust yearly into the hands of persons unacquainted with the intricate matters pertaining thereto, we therefore submit for your consideration and approval the following resolution: Whereas, This Conference deems the management of Beulah Park of such moment tlìat, be it Resolved, That this Conference nominate and elect seven men as trustees and directors of Beu]ah Park for the Eastern Peiinsyl- vania Holiness Asso'iation, who are to be vested with the power to adopt the accounting system now being used by the State Coun- cils, to elect their own officers and transact any and all business pertaining to the proper management of Beulah Park, and acting in a subsidiary capacity to the State Council, only in so far as they shall have their aounts audited yearly by our Conference. Fur- thermore be it Resolved, That seven persons shail be elected for terms as fol- lows: One for seven years. one for six, one for five, one for four, one for three, one for two, one for one year, and at each succeeding Conference o'1e man be elected by Trustees and Directors to servc for seven years. Whereas. This Conference realizes that the following charac- teristics shall be prominent in anyone elected to this office: 1st. Vital godliness with an ardent desire for the advance- ment of this work; 2nd. Sufficient ability to enable them to properly transact the iieeessary business connected thereto; 3rd. A clean past record so that their presence as an incum- bent of the office will not bring the work into ill repute. It being properly moved and seeonde that the resolution be adopted a vote was taken resulting in its adoption. A motion prevailed that the Conference proceed to the election of officers, trustees and directors, as provided for in the resolution just previously adopted. The chair appointed R. M. Nominations for trustees and directors were as follows: Kulp, Sutton, King, Laidacker, Saneholtz, Mapes, Owen, Wag. ncr, Lishman, Gardner, Crider, Harding, Straub, Diehi, Traiger, Christine, Ives, Neff and Kachel. The results of the balloting were as follows: For seven years, Rev. D. A. King. For ix years, Rev. J. L. Sutton. For five years, Rev. H. A. Soneholtz. For four years. Rev. W. J. Crider. For three years. John Wagner. For two years, Rev. G. S. Owen. For one year, Rev. G. B. Kuip. Stroudsburg, Milton and Philadelphia churches extended cor- dial invitations for the convention of 1900 to be held in their churches. In order to determine the choice of the convention it w's determined by motion to name the next place of meeting by ballot The chair appointed as tellers Brothers Diehi and Straub. Strouclsburg was selected for the next convention, and by sub- eiuent motion the date was fixed for the second Monday of March, 1920, to continue over the following Sunday. Likewise an invi- tation was extended to our General Superintendent, Brother Kuip, to le with us. Brother Liedeckcr was excused from this session. Adjourned. JOHN ORKNEY. Secretary pro tern.

MARCH 14, 1919. 9.00 A. M. The meeting was formally called to order by Rev. H. A. Sane. holtz and roll call order which was followed by the reading of the minutes of the previous session. They were adopted. The auditing committee, after discussion, was upon motion in structed to audit the accounts as far as information at hand would permit, the balance to be reported at the quarterly meeting of the Council. A motion was mada, seconded and adopted that the Board of Trustees and the Directors of the Eastern Pennsylvania Holiness 10 Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna.

Association be authorized to select two niembers to serve, making nine trustees in all, these two members to serve for the period of one year; also, that in case of vacancy by death or otherwise the remaining members of the board may fill the vacancy for the unex- pired term. The committee on resolutions reported as follows lst—Resolrecl, That we. as a convention, do hereby request our Local Advisory Board to be more prayerful and careful and to ho sure of the esil and proper qualifications of individuals before rec- ommending them to the State Council for license to preach. 2nd—Whereas Sister J. L. Sutton has so faithfully and self- sacrificingly given her time in preparing the meals, be it therefore Resolved.. That the convention give her a rising vote of thanks while the collection box is passed for a liberal free will offering as remuneration. 3rd_\ATllereas past experience has proven that little pernia nent good is done without organizing, be it therefore Resolved. That we es a convention do hereby wish to emphatic- ally put ourselves on record as being opposed to granting and re- newing licenses to those who nersistently manifest an indenendeiit snirit and who make no efforts to establish Apostolic Holiness churches. Signed: D. A. King, G. W. Heims, John Orkney. The report of the committee was accepted and the resoluEions adopted upon motion. The convention authorized that our churches he instructed to have their deeds made out to conform to the manual. Rev. loser, of New Jersey, was introduced and by vote grant- ed a seat in the conference. Following is a report of the resolutions' committee: In view of proposals to unite with The 1-loliness Christian Church, be it Resolved, That we, as the Apostolic Holiness Church of Pen a- sylvania, in the annual convention session, do hereby request our General Assembly to in no wise surrender our congregational form of government. After listening to the report of the chairman of the State Council concerning the acceptance of the New Jersey state work into the Pennsylvania State work, a motion prevailed that, we ratify the action of the District Council in accepting New Jersey into this district; also that our Secretary be instructed to communicate with the General Assembly requesting them to ratify the action of this convention. Following roll call the minutes were read and adopted. Election of officers followed and the chair appointed for thie purpose R. M. Harding and J. H. Leidacker as tellers. Nominees for State Superintendent were Revs. H. A. Sane- holtz, D. A. King, W. J. Crider, G. S. Owen, J. L. Sutton and J. B. Diehi. Rev. H. A. Sanèholtz was elected. Nominees for Assistant Superintendent were Revs. Sutton, Owen. Crider and King. J. Ii. Sutton was elected. Nominees for secretary were Rev. J. R. Gardner and Carrie A. Yoder. Brother Gardner was elected. Nominees for treasurer were Rev. G. S. Owen and J. H. Lia- daeker. Brother Owen was elected. Nominees for three advisory members were Rev. W. J. Crider, P. A. King. H. M. Harding and J. H. Liedacker. Brothers Crider, Kind and Harding were elected. Sister Carrie Young, Sister Mary Fleming and Sister Moyec were excused from further attendance at the convention. Nominees for seven Trustees were: Brothers Wagner, Sane- holtz, Straub, Liadacker, Ives, King, Lishman, Owen, Moyer and Cricler. Brothers Wagner, Saneholtz, Straub, Liadacker, Ives, Owen and Crider were elected. Brother Owen tendered his resignation as a member of the Dis- trict Board of Trustees and a'so moved that the secretary be author- ized to cast a unanimous vote in favor of Brother John Moyer. The resignation was accepted and a unanimous ballot cast for Brother Mover who was declared duly elected. 12 Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna.

On motion the secretary was instructed to cast the ballots for three members of the Advisory Board to be elected as members of the District Missionary Board and further agree to proceed to elect two other members to serve with them. Ncmiinces for this office were Brothers Lishman, Ives, Gardner and Sister Yoder. The convention adjourned to complete the election at the fol-. lowing morning session. MARcH 15, 1919. 9.45 A. M. When the eighth session was called to order by Superintendent H. A. Saneholtz, the roll was called and a motion prevailed that the reading of the minutes be dispensed with in order that the election of officers mr"ht be proceeded with and completed. Brother Ives was appointed Secretary pro tern by the chair. The committee on Resolution reported as follows: 1st. Whereas our General Superintendent. Rev. G. B. Kuip, has had Cod 's viion relative to Beulah Park Camp Meeting and Bible School and has evidently adopted the same as his spiritual child, be it Resolved. That we •as a Convention would he pleased if the trustees and directors would extend to him an invitation to be our invited help as long as the Lord spares him to the church. 2nd. Whereas Sister Carrie A. Yoder has for some years past served as State Secretary and faithfully performed her duties in said office, be it therefore Resolved, That this convention manifest its appreciation of her services by a rising vote of thanks. 3rd. Inasmuch as our beloved General Superintendent, G. B. Kulp, has by the mercy and grace of God been spared to be *ith us in another convention, blessing us with his presence and inspiring messages, Resolved, That the convention show their appreciation by ris- ing to sing "Praise God frorn whom all blessings flow.'' 4th. Whereas our faithful Secretary, Sister Carrie A. Yoder, was called home on account of her mother's illness and the secretary pro tern, Brother John Orkney, having satisfactorily filled the office, Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna. 13 be it therefore Resolved, That the convention acknowledge appreciation by a rising vote of thanks. 5th. Inasmuch as this convention recognizes the hospitality of the members and friends of the Philadelphia church in entertain- ing the preachers, delegates and visitors, be it therefore Resolved, That we manifest our appreciation by a rising vote of thanks. Signed: D. A. King, John Orkney, G. W. Hems. Unfinished business was then proceeded with. Brother Lishman and Sister Yoder were elected to complete the Missionary Board. Nominees for State Examining Board were Brothers Saneholtz, Crider, Sutton, Owen, Diehl. Brother Saneholtz was elected. A motion prevailed that the two delegates to the General As- sembly have their fares paid by the State. The convention decided that two delegates should be elected to the General Assembly. Nominees placed were: Brothers Sane- holtz, Sutton, Owen, King. Brothers Sutton and King were elected. On motion it was determined that the brothers receiving the next highest number of votes be elected alternate delegates and Brothers Owen and Saneholtz were so declared. The report of the Bethel Herald was read by the Secretary. On motion the same was accepted. Brother Thomas Gardner was excused from further attendance at the convention. A determined spirit was displayed in the action of the conven- tion in adopting a motion that the publication of the Bethel Herald should be continued. A further motion provided for the adoption of the same nancial plan as in force last year for the support of the Bethel Herald, which action was immediately followed by the nomination of the following for the office of editor of the publica- tion: Brothers King, Owen, Mease. Brother King was elected to the important position. A motion was made, seconded and adopted that each preacher when he ,returns to his charge take the necessary steps to appoint a church reporter, who shall send a monthly report to the Editor of The Bethel Herald for publication.

On motion the Convention spent five minutes in prayer, in behalf of the publication and editor of The Herald. In view of the fact that we have organized The Eastern Penna. Holiness Association, be it Resolved, That we proceed to accept members into the afore- said Association, and that the membership in this Association shall not be restricted to the members of the Apostolic Holiness Churche, but may be composed of Holiness people of any color, name or clime, and that the membership fee shall be one dollar ($1.00) per year. Whereas, Our Gen. Supt. Rev. Geo. B. Kuip having been elect- ed a member of the Board of Trustees and Directors of the Eastern Penna. Holiness Association for one year, therefore be it Resolved, That this Convention nominate and elect him a life- long ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees and Directors for the Eastern Penna. Holiness Association, and furthermore be it Resolver, That this Convention unanimously nomintae and elect him a lifelong, honorary member of the Eastern Penna. Holi- ness Association with the proviso that he be exempted from mem- bership fees. On motion t11e above resolution was adopted. On motion the Convention adjourned. JOHN ORKNEY, Secretary.

Ninth session was called t oorder by Rev. H. A. Saneholtz. Roll call. The Committee on Resolutions reported as follows: In order to facilitate business, and safeguard the privilege of each member of the Convention, let it be recommended that each preacher and delegate acquaint themselves with the rudiments of parliamentary laws before coming to the next Convention. The Secretary pro tern. of the Missionary Board elect reported as follows Chairman, Rev. D. A. King. Secretary, Rev. Francis Lishman. Treasurer, Rev. Carrie A. Yoder. A motion was made, seconded and adopted that we request our State Supt. to assign to several of our ministers—Subjects and es- sential doctrines of God's word to be discussed on the floor of our next annual convention. The Treasurer of the State Missionary Board gave his report. The report was accepted as read and will appear on the mm- utes. The Secretary pro tern of the Trustee Board of the State re- ported. On motion the report was accepted. State Treasurer's report was read and on motion accepted. The Treasurer of the State Board of Trustees reported and on motion the report was accepted. The Secretary Of the State Examining Board reported and on motion his report u-as accepted. The Secretary pro tern of the Board of Trustees and Directors of The Eastern Penna. Holiness Association reported and on mo- tion the report was accepted. A motion was made, seconded and adopted that we instruct the State Council to arrange the second quarterly meeting in such a way that no business meetings need be held during our State camp-meeting. A motion was n'acle, seconded and adopted that we invite our Gen. Supt., Rev. Geo. B. Kuip, to make the closing address to the Convention. On motion the convention adjourned. REPORT OF THE EXAMINING BOARD We, the Examining Board, hereby certify that the following persons have satisfactorily passed the preliminary examination and are placed on the First Year's Course: Mrs. Bessie Hatcher, John Treager and Conrad Christine. The following are making progress in the course of study: Wm. Munson, John Hankins, Daniel Duheri- dorf, Wrn. E. Stroub, Francis Lishman, C. E. Shanon and Adalijie Bahrent; Wm. G. Miller is taking a course in Kingswood College. The following are retained and urged to make an effort in the First Year's Course: J. P. Miller, R. 0. Parry and Mary Sehafl'er. The following are the names of the Deaconnesses: Mrs. Maggie McCloskey continued in the First Year's Course; i\Iiss Ella Mun- son Owen is taking a course in God's Bible School. H. A. SANEHoLTZ, J. L. Mr. Chairman :— We beg to submit our report as Purchasing Committee for Beulah Park. You are doubtless cognizant of the fact that this has been all ar- duous task, but by God's help and your praye1s we have completed Apostolic. Holiness Church of Penna. 17 the work assigned to us consisting of all matters pertaining to the negotiating with the former owner, namely, Mr. Tilghman L. Weiand, of Allentown, Pa. We beg to state that after considering the matter in the mm- utest detail thereof, we, as a committee, consider this property a valuahie addition to our work, being situated as it is on the Allen- town-Bethlehem Boulevard and being easily accessible from all noint' in the central and eastern sections of the state as well as New York City and the east. This ideal location with its spacious grounds, good buildings, complete furnishings and eouipment, with minor repairs and im- provements and by the use of the proper managerial ability, should enable us to see our labors rewarded by the establishing of a Power Center for God and Holiness in Pennsylvania and the East. Three (3) tracts of land known as Beulah Park, situate in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, State of Pennsylvania, includ. ing all property now deeded to The Pentecostal Church of the Naz- arene, also corner lot 50' x 125', between pump and small cottage, also property situate from center of Ebineaser Ave., along Center Ave.. to Allentown and Bethlehem Boulevard, about 300' as inti- eated on map.

BTJILDINGS One (1) Round Tabernacle, 100' diameter, including 17 drop curtains 12' x 12', 129 pews and 36 pew cushions, 2 altar benches and all electric fixtures. One (1) one story building, 12' x 36'. One (1) one story bungalow, six rooms. One (1) one story cottage (Alpha), 36' x 36'. 18 Apostolic Holiness Church of Penna.

One (1) three story dormitory 24' x 50', with wing 16' x 16', 36 rooms. 36 rooms. Furnished with beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets, bol- sters, comforts, wash stands, bowls and pitchers, electric lights and oil lamps, mirrors and slop pails. ONE DINING HALn 50' x 60' with 12' x 18' kitchen, also 16' x 16' porch. Furnished with 3 ranges and 1 water heater, all kinds of cooking utensils and dishes, etc., to serve 100 people at one table. Two toilets, 28' x 16', with annexes 7' x 7'. One Octagon pump house. Sixteen Cottage Canvas Tents, 12' x 12'. Twenty-eight Canvas Tents, 9' x 12'. Five Canvas Tents, 12' x 12'. Twenty Tent floors.
