Noted – refer comments and associated recommendations in PO Box 39 One could safely say that people living along the proposed routes do so because of a Officer’s Report titled Proposed East-West Link Road. DENMARK WA 6333 lifestyle choice, for themselves, for their children, for their pets and livestock. If they wish to live alongside what will become a heavy haulage by-pass road, they would have done so. Ratepayers living along the proposed route have invested their savings to build a haven for themselves and done so in the knowledge that this lifestyle would be protected by good planning decisions by council. Not only is the proposed route planned with apparently no concept as to the terrain being traversed but no comprehension has been given to the gigantic environmental damage which will occur supposedly in the name of progress! One hears all the time of councils taking people to task for the removal of undergrowth alongside road verges or river systems, heavy fines being issued for those who do destroy bushland and yet council, intends to construct some monolith of a highway which will not only destroy magnificent old growth forest of many species but create a zone of ongoing pollution alongside the Denmark River which runs beside the East River Road.

    Transports Ministry of Western Australia The Railways Ministry was expanded to include Transport in the Wise Labor Government of 1945 and then the two portfolios were amalgamated in Sir Charles Court’s Liberal Government in 1974 - 1982. In 1993 during Richard Court’s Liberal Government the State Rail Freight service was sold. The public railway service Westrail and Metro-bus remain the responsibility of the Department of Transport. In Geoff Gallop’s Labor Government the Transport portfolio was absorbed into the Department of Planning & Infrastructure becoming the responsibility of Alannah Joan Geraldine MacTiernan. In the Barnett Liberal Government (2008) a Minister responsible for Transport was again created. LOCKYER (Mining and Pastoral) [3.32 pm] - by leave: It has come to my notice that an article which appeared in The West Australian on 29 or 30 July, or thereabouts, may have been construed as reflecting on the position of the President of the Legislative Council. That was nor my intention and if that reflection has been cast, I apologise for it. I want to mate it clear that the comment concerning the position of t President of the Legislative Council was certainly not a reflection on the office of President. The PRESIDENT: I am very grateful that the honourable member has taken the first available opportunity to raise this matter. I read the article to which the member referred and concluded that, as reported, the remarks were a reflection on the office of President and required the attention of this House. STATEMENT - BY THE SPEAKER ParliamentHouse Bells Problem - GWN Film Footage of Spring Sitting Opening THE SPEAKER :I advise members that a minor problem has arisen with the bells in Parliament House which, although they are ringing in most places, are not accompanied by the blue lights which are nornally alight at the same time. In particular, the lights are not coming on in the Legislative Council, so that may be a good place for members to stay away from at present! It has been drawn to my attention that Golden West Network Pty Ltd - GWN - will be paying particular attention to the Parliament from today on and that as the file footage available to other stations is inappropriate for that station's use its representatives are here today to film file footage of the Legislative Assembly with particular reference to country members. CONDOLENCE MOTION Bickerton, Arthur William DR LAWRENCE (Glendalough - Premier) [2.06 pm]: I move - That the House records its sincere regret at the death of Arthur William Bickerton and tenders its deep sympathy to his family. Arthur William Bickerton, former Labor member for the Pilbara and Minister, died On 20 June, 1992 aged 72 years. He was born and educated in Victoria and began his working life as a mining engineer. After working in the coalmnines in New South Wales he came to Western Australia where, in 1958, he ran successfully for the seat of East Pilbara.
