This Annual Report highlights the activities of the Foundation as well our accomplishments and growth during the last year. But more importantly, the Annual Report allows us the opportunity to highlight the many students, teachers, and schools that have directly benefited from all of the gifts provided to the Foundation from our Donors. Another important aspect of this Annual Report is being able to detail, for the fourth year in a row, the increase in funding by the Foundation to support the requests for educational assistance. This increase is a direct result of your gifts and our Annual Report serves as our acknowledgement to you with the deepest gratitude and recognition of those gifts.

As you review the 2012 Annual Report, please notice the pictures of teachers and students interacting as they explore and study the science of Geology and other Earth Sciences. Look at the smiles on their faces. They are leaning and having fun. These are modest examples of the substantial impact your gifts are making in the lives of students in Oklahoma.

Also noteworthy, the Foundation’s Directors established four, new funds at the end of last year. Three of the funds will target students in grades Kindergarten through Twelve. The remaining new fund will establish the Oklahoma Geological Foundation Field Camp Grants. These Grants will be given each year to students who need financial assistance in attending the required field camps to complete their degrees in Geology.

As the Foundation moves into 2012, our focus will be to fund major, new initiatives and to increase funding for our existing awards, scholarships, and grants. In 2006, the Foundation broadened its vision with the addition of four new programs. Focusing on elementary and secondary schools, the Excellence in Earth Science Education Awards (EESE), the Kate Excellence in Earth Science Education Award and the Beth Cronin Elementary School Endowment were created to foster awareness and to encourage participation in Earth Science programs in lower school curricula. With continuing education and Petroleum Geology as its focus, the Kenneth Stewart Cronin Lecture Series was the fourth program established in 2006. The Lecture Series was initiated to benefit students, the members of the Geological Society, and other local professionals. In 2007, a new program for college students was established by Herbert and Shirley Davis - the Herbert G. and Shirley A. Davis Oklahoma State University Geology Scholarship. In 2008, the Foundation established two new Endowments, again emphasizing and focusing on elementary and secondary education. These new Endowments were named the Philip Boyle Foundation and Oklahoma Geological Foundation Elementary and Secondary School Endowment, and the John Gatchell Earth Science Teaching Endowment . In 2010 the Foundation established the Charles E. Branham Geological Library Endowment, supporting the Library of the Oklahoma City Geological Society, as well as libraries and programs in elementary and secondary schools that teach Earth Sciences. The Foundation also worked with the Oklahoma Geological Survey and to provide supplemental teaching resources to Oklahoma students in grades 7 through 12 with The Oklahoman’s “Newspapers in ContributorPETER J. The Lecture Series was initiated to benefit students, the members of the Oklahoma City Geological Society, and other local professionals.
