One's Life Story is a long history of repetitions — meals cooked, floors mopped, miles driven, books read, letters written, boo-boos kissed, lullabies sung, tears shed, presents made, laughter shared, gar- dens planted, mountains climbed, campfires sung-around, games attended, and concerts, and plays, babies conceived, and birthed and married off, loved ones nursed, and buried, and mourned...in 77 years- -about 527 million, 472 thousand breaths of loving, fearing, hoping — of striving, failing, succeeding. And too often, bearing unbearable pain and somehow, prevailing.

All of these moments are punctuated periodically with the stuff we want to be remembered for. This is my partial list since high school:

Married a dashing, young Army Air Corps Officer—1948 Persuaded the obstetrician to defy hospital rules and allow David to be present for my last 4 deliver- ies--1957, 1961,1963 and 1966. Delivered 9 babies without anesthetic. 1950's and '60's. Now have 27 wonderful grandchildren, 4 greats. Was invited into the delivery room for the births of a 3rd and a 4h generation baby. Returned to college around 1965 and earned bachelor and master's degrees — 1975 and 1981. Only middle aged person in my undergraduate classes. Designed and built a modernistic house in a conventional neighborhood—had to persuade the mortgage company to take a big risk — 1957. Ordained an Elder in Presbyterian Church. Was a life guard and teacher. Taught my babies to swim. Sang around the piano with the kids. Four generations harmonize around the campfire with 6 gui- tar players now at their annual Rendezvous. The Joy of My Life. Persuaded the kids to build a plain pine box and line it with velvet to bury their father in. Exquisite. Treasured memory. Cost $250. 1992. Was featured in an art show _ “Art on the River.” Moncure Conway House, Falmouth, VA . 2002. Had a standing ovation for “being brave” and playing the piano for about 500 people. 2003 Started Ballroom Dancing, age 72. Won 41 first places in my first competition — age 76, 2005. Raised 9 responsible, loving, successful, musical offspring. Even have a few PhDs, coaches, scout leaders, Sunday school teachers in there. Inducted into the Ronald W. Lindemann Hall-of-Fame. 2006. Life doesn't get much better than this!!! GEORGE CAPUANO:

After graduating from High School in 1972, I attended Lehigh University for two (2) years and the transferred to Alfred University and graduated “cum laude” with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I was employed by an accounting firm, but soon realized that the “accounting profession” was not “my cup of tea.” I joined my father in his “Masonry Contracting” business. I never looked back! When my father decided to retire, I was there to carry-on what he had estab- lished, renaming the business, “Capcon Enterprises” which is still in operation today.

In 1988 I married Holly Paquette (HHS 1977) and we have two (2) children: Claire, 11th grader at HHS, and Grace, an 8th grader at the Farragut Middle School. My wife Holly is a Real Estate Director at Pfizer Inc. in New York City.

My family moved to Virginia and I was transferred to a State Teachers College, now known as Longwood University, in Farmville, VA. Received a BS in Education and Certification for Social Services. While in High School, I competed in swimming and diving with a New York City team and that experi- ence paid off during my first two summers while at college, I worked as the Head Waterfront Director at a camp and also worked as a Child Welfare Case worker.

My first teaching job was in Madison County, Virginia where I taught Health and Physical Education, coached the cheering squad and the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team, which won the District Championship!! The next seven (7) years I taught Health and Physical Education at Handley High school in Winchester, VA. I was Coach, Drama Club Sponsor and Dance Director of the Apple Blossom Festival – “The Event Of The Year”

In 1951 I married Richard Carter and took an eight (8) year leave from teaching to adopt our two (2) children, Cynthia Marie and Jeffery Arthur. I went back to teaching at a Middle School (grades 7&8) in Clark County. I started a Cheerleading Squad, Pep Club and a Boys Varsity Tennis Team, that won three (3) District Champioships,as well as establishing a yearbook for that Middle School level.

Our daughter died at age 14, and though a parent never truly recovers from the loss of a child, we made the decision to host an “exchange” student from Peru. Two years later I went to Peru to visit him, and we remain in touch with one another. I was divorced in 1979 and in 1985 married Robert Casey. In the interim I earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia, and applied to be the first teacher in space. Needless to say that NASA, and God, were not ready for me! I retired in 1988. We had a boy, then two(2) girls and the when our son was seventeen (17), we had “twins”, a girl and a boy. That was an unexpected prescription for twelve (12) more years of PTA meetings, band, track activities etc. I returned to work as a “Geriatric Physical Therapist” when the twins were three(3) years old and worked until 1996. Fortunately my mother lived with us, so our children had a “second moth- er” while I was at work.

Currently I play the hand bells in our church choir and still knit, sew and cane occasionally. At this time of the year my favorite hobby undoubtedly is gardening. Also enjoy reading and traveling (and listening to books on tape/cd as we travel. Tops on the list of “favorite” activities are the “special” family get togethers for birthday celebrations, graduations and major holidays.

Classmates, Joan( Fredericks) Whetstone, Jesse Lee (Pickett) Casey and I have met often through the years. Last year, through Joan, I have reunited with Cathy (Farmer) Hosmer.
