The WyomingPBS LearningMedia Collection continually strives to bring unique lessons, videos, and resources to Wyoming Educators. Currently, the Collections contains 42 resources under the topics of Native American Studies, History, STEAM, and the Transcontinental Railroad.

New resources that have been added to the collection include a resource based on the WyomingPBS documentary Glaciers of the Winds. In this lesson plan 5th grade students will learn how changes in glaciers could aff ect ecosystems, agriculture, and people. Students will analyze the part glaciers play in the diff erent ecosystems and describe how people in Wyoming are using science to better use the water from these glaciers.

There are also three new lessons that have been added to the End of Track resources. In these lessons, students will learn and have class discussions about President Abraham Lincoln’s dream to build a railroad across the northern part of the to increase employment, move goods and people faster, and to create governments where none had been established yet. Building the Transcontinental Railroad took years of planning and hard work, with plenty of ups and downs. Two railroad companies raced against each other to build more track than the other. Those two railroad companies were the Central Pacifi c and the Union Pacifi c railroad companies. The Union Pacifi c Railroad company built the railroad through what is now Wyoming.

These lessons and more can be found at wyomingpbs.org/learningmedia.
