Carers’ Centres in South West

Do you look after someone or help look after someone? If you look after someone, then you are a carer. A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neigh- bour. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Many carers are young people, under the age of 18 years old, who are caring for their mother, father or sibling.

Looking after someone can be rewarding but it can also be very demanding and stressful.

If you are carer and you are looking for advice or support then please contact your local Carers’ Centre. What can the Carers’ Centres Offer?

The Carers’ Centres are here to support carers and to offer them advice, guidance and a listening ear.

As part of ’s commitment to the Glasgow Joint Carers Strategy, they fund eight Carers’ Centres across the city.

The centres offer a wide range of services to carers which include: • Information and advice • Emotional support • Short breaks/respite • Income maximisation • Training and wellbeing activities • Help to have carers’ voices heard Where do I find my local Carers’ Centre?

There are two Carers’ Centres in the South West area: Greater Carers’ Centre and Glasgow South West Carers’ Centre.

If you live in Pollok, and North Pollok, and Houshillwood, South and , Newlands and , and , Arden, , Crookston, , and then your local centre will be Carers’ Centre.

If you live in Greater , , and Craigton, Ibrox and Kingston, , , and , then Glasgow South West Carers’ Centre is your local centre. If you are unsure about which Carers’ Centre is local to you, then please do not hesitate to contact either of the centres and a staff member will be able to assist you.

Glasgow South West Carers’ Centre, Unit 11, 6 Harmony Row, Glasgow, G51 3BA. Tel: 0141 440 5316 Greater Pollok Carers’ Centre is managed by the Vol- unteer Centre Glasgow (VC). The VC provides volun- teer bureau (VB), community development, befriending, training and advisory services across Glasgow. The Car- ers’ Centre is part of the Princess Royal Trust for Car- ers’ (PRT) network of carers’ centres. PRT is the largest provider of comprehensive carers’ support services in the with 144 carers’ centres across the country providing support to 354,000 carers.

Glasgow South West Carers’ Centre is managed by Quar- riers. Quarriers is a Scottish based charity providing prac- tical support and care for children, adults and families at any stage of their lives.
