ARIZONA ROOSTER President’s Report We had a pretty sorry attendance at the last meeting. I don’t expect everyone to make every meeting, but I’d like to see more than the same faithful dozen folks every month. How about you try and make the November meeting so we can vote for the officers for next year and also for the member of the year. And speaking of next year’s officers, all the positions are open, so why not step up and be part of the board and help guide the club through 2020. We need some new faces up there. Eric led us on a great run earlier this month. Started out pleasant, but turned cool and drizzly by the time we got to Bodega Bay. The plan had been to get out and wonder around the Goat Rock area, but the light rain meant that most of us just stayed in our cars. Great lunch in Rio Nido but then we got kind of separated from Eric and just met up at Mom’s Apple pies where most either bought a pie to take home, eat there or both. Another fun North Bay outing. The board is considering several dates for our autocrosses next year at Thunderhill. We are only planning on two weekends, but we haven’t determined which ones yet. We have several dates to choose from in April, May, June and October. Stay tuned. Thanksgiving is on the 28th this year. Take time to be thankful for the freedoms that we have here in the United States. Our country may not be perfect, but it sure beats the hell out of any other place on earth. Save the Wave, Ken North Bay Corvette Association General Meeting Minutes October 9, 2019

President: Ken Albers called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm, and asked for officer’s reports.

Membership Director: Barbara Boyer had nothing to report.

Secretary: Steve Boyer reported that he transcribed the minutes of the last meeting that Ken recorded and they were published in the newsletter by Heather. He had to correct the dates of the next meetings in the draft before they were published, but that was the only corrections noted. Neil Andersen moved that the minutes be approved as published. Janet Funke seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.

Director of Publications: Heather Torres was unable to be present. Ken said that the deadline for the next newsletter is Friday, October 25th.

Webmaster: Stephen Buttrick was not able to be present.

Public Relations Director: Bill Donnelly reported:

The Oil Changers in Sonoma are not interested in advertising in our newsletter. However, the manager of the Oil Changers in Novato may be interested. He is talking with his boss about it and seeing if they can do it. Bill told him we could bring them a lot of Corvettes.

Bill brought in a certificate from Matt and Jeff’s for a wax job and 20% off anything in their store. It will be given away at the raffle tonight after the meeting.

Jeff has car wash tickets from Matt and Jeff’s. Please give him a check made payable to NBCA in the amount of $34.95 per wash.

Bill’s Brain Teaser from our last meeting was: If you have two mating rabbits for three years, how many relatives can they produce? The answer that was not given at Mountain Mike’s Pizza after the meeting was 33 million!

Bill’s Brain Teaser: Mothers over 40 are twice as likely to have children that are what? (Not retarded.) The answer to be revealed at Mountain Mike’s Pizza.

He went down to Lake Havasu for his buddy’s celebration of life and the family is selling his 2000 yellow Corvette convertible with 70,000 miles on it. It’s in great condition. His wife will let him know what the price is once she decides.

Member at Large: Neil Andersen reported: Keep the pictures coming in. He needs pictures for the scrapbook from our recent events.

Treasurer: Jeff Farber reported:

We have a good balance in our checking account.

Jeff passed out little bags of Ghirardelli chocolates to the people that helped him at registration at our past autocross: Jane, Barbara and Lynn. Thank you very much! He passed out half-a-dozen copies of the Profit and Loss for the four autocrosses that we put on this year. There were 79 participants on Saturday and 54 participants on Sunday in June, and 53 participants on Saturday and 55 participants on Sunday in September. We had a net gain of approximately $2,000.00 for the two weekend events.

Steve Boyer gave Jeff a check in the amount of $40.00 as a donation from Malcom Lawton of Santa Clara Corvettes who wanted to support our autocross but couldn’t attend.

Neil Andersen moved, and Jane Rittler seconded the motion, to approve the Treasurer’s Report. The motion was approved.

Social Director: Steve Jackson reported:

Thanks to Neil Andersen for leading the last Drive-N-Dine to Hooters. How could we not have fun?

The Autocross, including Saturday’s pizza party at a restaurant in Willows, was our social event for September.

Our October Social Event was a tour up to Art’s Place in Rohnert Park. They had great food, but they no longer provide separate checks, so we will not be going back. We left from San Marin High School and went out through West Marin. There were a few more potholes than he thought, but they were filled in. There was one hill that we crested and were blinded by the sun, which scared everybody as they came over the hill. Other than that, it was a nice ride. No bad traffic.

The social event for this month will be Saturday, October 19th. Eric will lead us out to the coast. Steve passed around a signup sheet. Eric said that we will leave Novato Chevrolet at 9:30 am. We will take back roads all the way to Valley Ford. There’s a new creamery out there that we will stop at for maybe an hour. Then we will go up Highway 1 through Bodega Bay and stop at Goat Rock, just before Jenner, just for the view. We’ll head up the Russian River from there and have lunch at the Russian River Pub. After lunch, we’ll work our way up to Sebastopol and have desert at Mom’s Apple Pie. Bring a cooler if you want to bring some cheese or pie home. Steve passed around a signup sheet so Eric could have a head count.

Saturday, November 9th, he wants to go to the California Agricultural Museum in Woodland, CA. He wants to leave Novato Chevrolet at 9:00 am and get to the museum by about 10:30. Leave there by noon and have lunch in Napa somewhere.

Christmas Tree Cutting will be Saturday, December 7th, at Jane Rittler’s house. Arrive around 11:00 am. She will provide hamburgers and hot dogs. We all need to bring a batch of home-made cookies to share with everyone.

Our Christmas Dinner will be at Indian Valley Golf Club December 14th, with drinks starting at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00. More info will follow.

We will drive out to Howard’s Café in Occidental on Tuesday, December 24th, for breakfast. More info will follow.

Sunshine Report: Lynn Larson was unable to be present.

Vice President: Dan Divita reported:

WSCC meeting last weekend. Insurance was the main topic. Their budget for this year is $46,500.00. The renewal dues for current members of WSCC will remain at $25.00. New members’ dues are $31.00. Officers nominations are open. On the front page of WSCC’s Red Line magazine is Neil and Robin Andersen at the West Coast GM C8 Reveal at Tustin in July.

If a club doesn’t come forward to do a convention, WSCC will not have a convention. There may be two clubs considering putting on a convention. Helen Landis was asked to create a “How-To” book on putting on a convention. She turned it in to the Board. She is working on another FUNKHANA or other speed event, and Margie Zamora is working on some kind of short gathering. An awards banquette will be folded into another event.

Santa Clara Corvettes wants to decrease the number of autocrosses that they put on this next up-coming year. Their membership is getting burned out putting them on. They may consider changing their format to one-day per weekend events or just fewer two-day events.

President: Ken Albers reported:

He contacted Shannan at Thunderhill Raceway to get dates for us to put on autocrosses. He was given May 9th and 10th, and October 17th and 18th. He also contacted David Ray who wants to put something together with us when we do an autocross at Thunderhill Raceway. He has dates in May and September for Hooked-On-Driving. Ken has not been able to get a clear picture of what David has in mind. It seems that drivers cannot do both autocross and track days on the same days. But David did mention something about a BBQ and entertainment activities along that line, which would be fine. He will try to find out more on his ideas.

WSCC now has $3M in liability insurance, which was what Thunderhill Raceway required. We should now be able to get all of our insurance coverage from WSCC for a cheaper price than going through Thunderhill and getting their insurance carrier’s coverage for our activities.

Old Business: There was no old business.

New Business:

Steve Boyer stated that WSCC sent out an email indicating that the C8 hard-topped convertible will be trackable. It has adequate driver protection in a roll-over situation even with the top down.

Chevrolet at Steven’s Creek is now Steven’s Creek Chevrolet. They had 58 people that wanted to buy C8’s, but as it worked out, they only got 5 ordered. GM has announced that they will be bringing on a second shift in producing the Corvettes, so there should not be a large lag from the time you order a new Corvette and the time you actually get it delivered. So, don’t be scared from ordering a new one because of expecting a delay in delivery. And there is no mark-up on the new Corvettes, unlike some dealerships.

Able Chevrolet had 50 allotments for C8’s.

The Nominating Committee volunteer members are: Bill Donnelly, Steve Boyer, Eric Larson, Jane Rittler, and one more person. The Committee has to put forward a list of nominees to be published in the November newsletter.

Neil Andersen moved that the club purchase the liquid refreshments after the meeting. Bob Dunn seconded the motion which was approved by all. It will be at Mountain Mike’s Pizza.

Announcements: Eric Larson went to the Colorado River Corvette Club meeting in Lake Havasu just to see what they do. Their members are from Bullhead City, Kingman and Lake Havasu. Their meeting is in a different city each month and they caravan from each town to the meeting. In Lake Havasu the meeting was in the Moose Lodge at lunch time. They have 150 members and about a third of them were there for the meeting. They are very active and go on several overnighters every year. They are part of NCCC (National Council of Corvette Clubs).

The Corvette Express 6th Annual Car Show is October 12th, in Vacaville.

Kevin reported that just before we were setting up the autocross course on Friday, the 2-mile short course of Thunderhill was utilized by writers of Car and Driver, Road and Track, and other car magazines testing new sports cars, including the new C8 Corvette. There was a real short clip, on-line, that showed a tester driving the C8 on Thunderhill, like the next day. Look forward to the release of those magazines and test results (Oct 16th?).

Kevin is organizing the Petaluma Veterans Day Parade, November 11th. He has 25 cars signed up. Jane is working on getting Fred there who will be 103 years old this Saturday.

Ken’s ’61 is in the shop repairing the little booboo in the left rear quarter panel. The price went from $8k to $13k due to having to strip the paint off all the way down to the bare fiberglass from the back of the driver’s door all the way around the trunk to the back of the passenger’s door, plus the trunk. There were as many as 11 layers of paint and primer in places and about 6 to 8 layers on most all of it. But for just a few thousand more out of Ken’s own pocket, he’s getting the whole car stripped and repainted.

There will be a raffle after the meeting including a t-shirt from the Corvette Caravan.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 13th, in the Margaret Todd Senior Center at 7:00 pm.

There will be Poker Faces October 24rd at Bill Donnelly’s house.

Jane Rittler moved to adjourn the meeting. Janet Funke seconded the motion which passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Boyer, Secretary Treasurer’s Report for November Newsletter

In October, our recent autocross revenues and expenses were posted. A recent compilation of our Autocross P&L shows an annual net profit of $976.95. The autocross committee had believed we would have made more money this year, but next year, we will have the benefit of a $750 savings in insurance costs.

We deposited $50 from our September raffle. And of course, we enjoyed after meeting refreshments at Mountain Mikes in Novato, one of our sponsors.

At the start of the year, we had some $14,000 in the bank. Today we have almost $16,000.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeff Farber Social Report

The September Social was Saturday September 28th, after the Auto-X in Willows CA at Round Table Pizza. This social included a mixed group of those that participated in the Auto-X. We had members from Vacca Ville Vettes, Santa Clara Corvettes, and Trinity Sports Car Club. We enjoyed the pizza and liquid refreshments. I was a nice and different type of social. Thanks for those that were able to attend. I know it would have been a long trip for those not up there for the Auto-X. For some attendees it was close enough to the hotel that the transportation was our own two feet.

The joint Auto-X with Trinity Sports car club on the 28 & 29 September Social at Thunder Hill race track west of Willows CA was a lot of fun. We had a great time and enjoyed getting out and Auto-X’g. If you have not done it, try it. We will have more opportunities next year.

The October Drive and Dine , our last of 2019, was on Wednesday October 2, 2019, to an all-time favorite, Art’s Place in Rohnert. We met at San Marin High School at 5:45 and left just after 6pm. We headed out toward west Marin to take the roads less traveled west of 101 to circumvent Petaluma on our way north east toward Rohnert Park. The route did not include the smoothest roads which resulted in some drivers choosing a slower speed over and around the patchwork of pot holes. We arrived without incident. We had 19 for dinner 9 met us at Art’s Place and 10 participated in the drive. The food as always was excellent. However, they don’t do separate checks and would not, several different stories one of which said that their new system does not split tickets. We were forced to select our dinner choices off of the bill and calculate our individual payment. Everyone’s contribution totaled to the amount owed including tip. Thank you everyone and sorry you had to go through that exercise.

The October Social was led by Eric Larson. We left from Novato Chevrolet and headed to the back roads toward Valley Ford and the Valley Ford Cheese and Creamery for a bathroom stop and snacks. What a great place with a quite different take on light snack faire. We left with a light mist starting on the way to Goat Rock Beach. The rain increased and we drove in off HWY 1 in arriving at the parking to full on rain. The surf was really heavy, and most got out to take advantage of this bathroom stop. After the stop we headed back north on HWY 1 toward HWY 116 were we turned to head to Rio Nido and the Rio NIdo Roadhouse for our lunch stop. We enjoyed great meal choices and had great conversations. Our waitress Tiricia kept everyone happy and filled with drink and food. After lunch we headed to Mom’s Apple Pie in Sebastopol to get a desert or a pie to take home. Both options were exercised some did both. What a great drive thank you Eric. Great job.

The November Social is to the California Agriculture Museum at 1962 Hays Lane Woodland California. We will meet at Novato Chevrolet at 8:45 on Saturday November 9th. We will leave at 9:00 AM for the museum in Woodland. The drive should take about 1:30 to the museum. There is an admission fee. The regular fee is $10, with AAA card is $9 and Seniors $8. We will stay at the museum until noon when we will leave for lunch. I have 12:30 reservations for lunch at Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Woodland. They are at 164 Main St. Woodland CA. and have a varied selection of food for lunch. We will leave lunch for Napa and a stop for ice at Three Twins in Napa.

The Christmas Tree Cutting is also on the calendar for Saturday, December 7th. Start planning to attend now and start thinking about your favorite home-made cookie recipe. See the flyer in this newsletter.

Christmas Dinner is scheduled for Saturday December 14th at the Indian Valley Golf Club just outside of Novato. The address is 3035 Novato Blvd, Novato Ca. Start thinking about your gift idea, the exchange entertainment is on the schedule for the dinner. The flyer for the Christmas dinner is in this newsletter. See the flyer and make your selection and include it with your payment and get it mailed to me. Sooner rather than later. The Tuesday am drive to breakfast on Christmas Eve at Howard’s Café is on the schedule too. We will meet in Petaluma in the am, time to be determined, to drive out to Howard’s Café.

Dues for 2018 remain the same: $25 for North Bay, and $25 for WSCC.

For those of you who didn’t pay attention last year, I’ll remind you to SEND ONE CHECK FOR $50 PAYABLE TO NBCA

To Barbara Boyer, 59 Rowan Court, San Rafael, CA 94903

NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 07

If you miss this deadline, please send a check in the amount of $66.

If you elect not to renew your membership, and we certainly hope that is not the case, please let me know we don’t have to keep checking with you to follow up.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, and have a very pleasant Thanksgiving Holiday, being thankful that most of us were spared in the recent fire tragedy.

13th Annual Historic Prescott All Corvette Car Show 11 - 13 October 2019, Prescott, Arizona This show is organized by the charitable organization of my club, Prescott Vette Sette. I wasn’t here last year for this show, so this is my first-time volunteering for it. Friday night there was a Pub Crawl with over 150 participants. Six bars/restaurants participated in the event. Each person in the crawl had a ticket with the six clubs across the top. They had five hours to visit, eat, drink and be merry and have their ticket punched (I was one of the punchers.) Attending all six got you an entry in a drawing for five prizes of $100 each. The big event was on Saturday with 275 Corvettes entering the car show. We started at 6:00 a.m. parking the cars in three rows along two streets each side of the courthouse. It was 34o F at the beginning. Panera Bread, a major club supporter donated gallons of coffee and dozens of pastries for us worker bees. It started warming up reaching mid 70o’s by the afternoon. The awards ceremony was held in the plaza in from of the courthouse. The recipient of every award and prize was present. By 4 all cars were off the streets and the event ended. As in most modern-day shows, most cars were C5, C6, and C7. There was no C8 for people to ogle over. On Sunday there was a poker run that was also well attended. I did not participate in the event. Next year the event should be scheduled on our regular weekend in late September. I hope some of you might be out this way to join us.

I didn’t know Jane was at the event!
