One of the great period houses in the listed Grade 2*. Set in about 2.5 acres of mature gardens and grounds. Wonderful combination of character and modern appointments. Six reception, seven bed, four bath but not rambling. A joy.

The exact early history of Great House is not known although it is thought that the property was probably built around 1540 by James Turbervill. The Royal Commission on ancient and historical monuments in in their book Glamorgan The Greater Houses gives much of the history from the early 1600s and says "The existing house, though incorporating part of an earlier building and enlarged in the 19th Century, provides an example of the renaissance style, with a central stair and panelled rooms." It goes on to describe in some detail many of the features that make this such a fascinating house and such a pleasure to walk around and view.

Prospective purchasers will also note the wonderful mature gardens and grounds of about 2.448 acres which are the result of much work by the present vendors and provide a glorious setting for such an attractive property. However, history and character alone do not make a comfortable house and the present owners have undertaken a careful programme of modernisation and refurbishment, including a stunning new expanded contemporary , kitchen/breakfast room by Ponninghaus at a cost of around £70,000. All this work has been done very much in keeping with the property's status as a Grade 2* listed building being of architectural and historical interest. The overall result is a most attractive blend of character and convenience in a house which although offering a great deal of accommodation is not vast and rambling and has been meticulously maintained by the present owners.

The property is situated adjacent to the 13th century parish church of St Cattwg in the ancient part of the village which now provides an attractive combination of old and new and in recent times has won the award for the Best Kept Village in the Vale of Glamorgan.
