Theodore Wirth Park ADVENTURE AND WELCOME CENTER

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board (MPRB) in collaboration with the Loppet Foundation is developing an Adventure and Welcome Center within Theodore Wirth Park. This entirely new facility will include site improvements and a new building and will focus on cross-country skiing, Par-3 support, , , and snow tubing.

PROJECT SITE THE BUILDING. The Welcome Center will be an all season building serving users of both the Adventure Center and the Par-3 golf course. It will include:

• Ticket counters • • Food and drink concessions • Restrooms • A sales and rental shop • Multi-purpose rooms • Training rooms • Locker rooms • Equipment preparation and repair facilities Design of the Welcome Center will be funded by the 2011 bonding bill and construction of the Welcome Center will be funded by the Loppet Foundation.

THE SITE. The Adventure Center, or areas around the building, will have the following features:

• Winter event and staging area • Relocated snow tubing and snowboarding hill • Summer mountain bike event and staging area • The site work will require the revision of • Mountain bike the 18-hole golf course • Cross country ski trails • Added parking Design and construction of the Adventure Center site work will be funded by the MPRB through an allocation under the 2011 bonding bill.

This site concept makes minor adjustments to the existing Par 3 Golf Course to prevent overlapping use of winter and summer programs. Mountain bike, tubing and snowboarding have improved event areas up in the valley with new rope tows for the winter programs.
