World Environmental Day 05.06.2014

Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University, organized World Environmental Day programme on 05.06.2014. Around 50 members who participated the 25 day Women Entrepreneur Development Programme and Women Entrepreneur Skill Development Programme were participated in the programme. Dr.S. Suba, Assistant Professor, Department of Women’s Studies welcomed the gathering and enlightened how women are related to environment, the role of women in protecting and promoting environment. Dr.N. Manimekalai, Professor and Head delivered a presidential address. In her address she emphasis that women are the most vulnerable group of environmental degradation. In her speech, she said that Human Development Report indicates all the households are having electricity and drinking water facilities. But actual survey reveals that some of them have not availed such facilities. The contribution of women in managing the Wastes was also emphasized.

Mr. Suresh Kumar, Deputy General Manager, NABARD delivered a key note address. In his speech, he explained various schemes available in the

State and Central banks including the solar system with incentives scheme, Natural Resource Management Scheme and etc. He insisted that earth is not only for Human, it is also for other creatures. So it is necessary to keep healthy environment in order to save other creatures.

Ms. Dhanalakshmi, Poet and Environmental Activist, Airport Authority of India, delivered Environmental day Address. She held that people hould follow whatever they wish to advise others to do. Everyone should change their own attitude to maintain environment healthy practices it will make others to do it. By doing by ourselves, one can serve as a role model to Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University, Khajamalai Campus Tiruchirappalli 2014

others. She also gave tips to protect the environment from mass and waste. Ms.M.S.Sameem Banu, Computer / Documentation Assistant, Dept. of Women’s Studies proposed the vote of thanks.
